Imagine. Imagine having the continuous feeling of needing to act a certain way because that is what the government wants. Imagine having to worship in an underground church because of belonging to the "wrong" religion. Imagine being blind and not being able to learn because the government cannot accept a disability. Lastly, imagine being killed because of simply disagreeing. This is everyday life in China for many people because of what the Communist Chinese government has caused for decades. Human Rights Abuse in China has caused millions of deaths and permanent injuries. In 1979, the One Child Policy was created and ever since then the abuse has escalated into being a normal part of lives. On June 4 1989, the government took the abuse to a whole other level. This fateful day was called the Tiananmen Square crackdown. This was the day of millions of deaths. China's government truly takes human rights violations to an extreme and has caused fear among their people. The government has previously claimed …show more content…
When Chinese President Xi visited Washington, President Obama brought up the human rights issue during a conference. The human rights abuse is becoming extremely exposed and other countries are starting to put pressure on China’s government to stop their harsh methods. According to the article,"Rubio:Xi Jinping 'devastating' for China Human Rights", by James Griffiths, “Human rights have taken something of a back foot in recent years when it comes to Sino-U.S. relations. President Barack Obama has been criticised by Republicans for not doing enough to pressure Beijing on the issue”(Griffiths.) Not only has the abuse been going on for decades but the violations of human rights are extremely harsh and serious. The abuses range from expensive fines to extrajudicial killings.
Fear is a powerful emotion even compared to love and other simple emotion like anger. Fear is not only strong but controlling. “You are afraid,” of what is happening and in that fear people find comfort after living like that for years or it is all they know(Orwell page,245). In 1984, The Party uses this fear of death and the thought police to control the people. The Chinese government does something similar to 1984, they used the fear tactic to control their people. For example, Chine deleted Tiananmen Square, as
The CCP, throughout its history, has been committed to maintaining a permanent monopoly on its political power over China and eradicated other parties, such as the KMT (Chinese Nationalist Party). The CCP doesn’t tolerate citizens who oppose its right to rule. In China’s own constitution, it says that the CCP will
The Tiananmen Square Massacre greatly impacted the way the rest of the world viewed the Chinese government. Imagine not having the freedom of speech that we do today, or living in a country that kills the innocent. In 1989, college students exercised their right to freedom of speech while protesting their communist leaders, and the leaders of Communist China put the demonstration down with military force resulting in possibly thousands killed. But, throughout the last 25 years China has grown and developed into a much different country than it was during the late 1980’s. Granted, the country still has a long way to go before it resembles the democracy present in the United States today, but it seems to be headed in the right direction.
China's record of human rights violations is long and mind-boggling. Atrocities such as purging tens of millions of people during the Cultural Revolution, its infamous one-child-per-couple Population Policy, persistent oppression of Tibet and the bloody June 4 massacre at Tienanmen Square in 1989 have given the Chinese government a reputation of having little respect for human life. And yet, despite its tarnished record, China maintains its Most Favoured Nation trade status with the US and is one of Canada's top ten recipients of bilateral trade. As supposed supporters of human rights, Canadian and US governments have developed hypocritical attitudes toward China, compromising ethical values for material gain. Instead, North American
This issue is very concerning for all of China because the government will not allow any opposition to itself. The government is not moderated and therefore has indefinite power. There is nothing to stand in the way of the government doing whatever they want. There are 420,000,000 Internet users in China. That is more than the entire population of the United States. Also, recently there have been some rally cries on the Internet in China that are similar to those of the Middle East/Egypt. China is becoming even stricter on the Internet usage policies because they do not want what happened in Egypt to spread to China. The government has also said that if any reporters come to the supposed rally sites they will either be deported or arrested and sent to jail.
Because a revolution is the last thing I want to see that happens in my country and I never feel things are that bad in China. That moment remind me how different Chinese and American think. I took a Chinese history class in the fall semester of 2014, and in that class, one of the things I learnt from those more than 200 pages books is that unlike American people, Chinese people never put individual at the first place. There are lots of things we put before ourselves, such as family and country. The word “country” in Chinese is “国家”, which is combined by two words “国” (nation) and “家” (family). We think our country as a huge family and we value the peace in this family more than anything. That’s why there were only a few revolutions in the 5-thousand-year history of
The article, “China to ‘Tighten Up’ on Illegally Obtained Evidence, Protect Criminal Suspects’ Rights”, was very interesting. It’s about all the ways China is trying to prevent injustice in the executive and judicial systems by protecting the rights of criminals before and after conviction. There are several ways in which efforts have been taken. One is the tightening of judicial procedures when it comes to what is and isn’t legal evidence and upholding the “innocent until proven guilty” policy in courts. Another effort being the installment of video recording equipment in detention facilities and interviewing rooms to prevent any acts of torture or illegal motives to gain evidence. Lastly, another action is the creation of China’s first anti-domestic violence law, clearly defining domestic violence as the physical or psychological abuse of anyone.
Like many mammals, human beings are a group of species that live in groups. One-party states are rarely any good at admitting to any form of blunder. It is cer-tainly the case with China’s prickly political leaders, who love to flood domestic media with jolly tales of fashion shows and bamboo-chomping pandas. When stocks start to move higher expect a tiny correlation to market manipulation investigations, senior officials try to make their own profits to get more percentage of stocks than the government itself does. This current event actually involved a lot of initial problems that never happened before. Like, the community itself in Salem, It was called a theocracy; those people who opposed the government, therefore, were definitely
Senator Rubio speech, given at the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce spoke entirely about China. He called the leader of China a tyrant based on his human rights violations as President Obama continues, “to appease China’s oppressive leaders despite their mounting
China is in a state of foreign dominance. Europeans and Japanese are taking over its territory. The people have lost faith in their government and they want to start a new one. Revolutionary parties begin to rise and expand. They want their government to get rid of the Europeans and Japanese but they aren’t able to. They have to take matters into their own hands. The people are started to learn from the westerners and they want to modernize. They want the power to defend themselves. They want the power to be able to control their own people and reinforce their own laws. They don’t want Europeans or Japanese to think that China is a part of their own country. Peasants
In the governments mind, internet restriction and controlling what the people in China see and say is what they believe achieving freedom is. If people start to form opinions and disagree with the government then another event such as the Tiananmen Square incident could occur.
As an effect from the civil war, the Chinese has changed in many ways, and when inspecting these changes, one can see that a lot of these changes have helped turn China into a dystopian society. As a result from the civil war in China between Communists and Nationalists, and the Communist victory, China has remained a single-party with Communists in control. The Chinese government also supplies their citizens with very little personal rights and freedoms, castigating many who oppose them. Also, China’s government works in way that in China, one’s personal relationships would matter much more than one’s position in the politburo, the main group of decision makers. To add on, there are multiple parts to this government that do do different things,
The Tiananmen Square Protests, otherwise known as the June Fourth incident, was a series of student led protests and demonstrations in Beijing, China during the spring of 1989. The protests were driven by goals to eliminate corruption within the Communist Party and promote democratic ideals such as freedom of speech, freedom of press and social equality. At the height of the protest from June 3-4, hundreds of thousands of students gathered around Tiananmen Square to protest, prompting military mobilization and resulting in unprecedented bloodshed. Though deemed by the Chinese government as a counter revolutionary act, the Tiananmen Square Protest remains an important event in shaping the political and social state of China today. Not only was the the protest instrumental in exposing the deep division within China’s political leadership, it also revealed that the future of China, comprised of students and intellectuals, was striving for a more democratic nation. With that being said, a highly debated question remains as to whether the Tiananmen Square Protest has led to more democracy in China, and how the event has influenced China’s political progress. On the contrary, the protest had a rather paradoxical impact on China’s regime. Rather than ending the rigid regime in place and bringing rise to democracy, Tiananmen led to the strengthening of the Communist party. The protests resulted
China has been a communist country since the communist revolution took place in 1949, since then China has been ruled by the dictator Mao Tse-Tung. However the Chinese dictator died in September 1976, he was hailed abroad as one of the worlds’ great leaders. Certainly one of the more impressive aspects of the Chinese communist government, has been the willingness of the people to protest against it (3, pg. 4).
The government continued to commit widespread and well-documented human rights abuses in violation of internationally accepted terms. These abuses stemmed from the government's extremely limited tolerance of public unrest. The Constitution and laws provide for fundamental human rights however, these rights are often ignored in practice. Abuses included instances of extra-judicial killings, torture and mistreatment of prisoners, forced confessions, arbitrary arrest and detention, lengthy incommunicado detention, and denial of due process(Amnesty International. "China, violations of human rights). Prison conditions at most facilities remained very harsh. In many cases, especially in sensitive political cases, the judicial system denied criminal defendants basic legal safeguards and due process of the law, merely because authorities attached higher priorities to maintaining public order and suppressing political opposition than to enforcing the legal norms of the country (Amnesty International. "China, violations of human rights). The government infringed on citizens' privacy rights. The government
