Time Management Reflection Paper The consequences of improper time management based on my past experiences have taught me that proper time management is of fundamental importance for both personal and professional success. Time is a valuable resource and once lost cannot be regained. The fact is we all wished we had more than twenty four hours each day, however, since this is not possible, the only solution to this dilemma is the proper utilization of time which is absolutely crucial. One of the tools I currently use is a planner/calendar. Being a visual person, the idea of mentally penciling out time for each day of the week helps me visualize how I plan on spending my time more wisely. I think of the analogy of going grocery shopping …show more content…
After reviewing my rough plan, the next step was to begin with organizing my priorities. This step is important because priorities are going to change based on the time available because as we all know time is a fickle thing. I have divided my priorities into three categories from high, medium and low. High priorities are priorities that will take away most of my time and energy and is crucial for my success in the DH program. The most obvious high priority is going to be focusing on school and school related work from allocating time for study to completing assignments and homework. My goal here is to complete these tasks based on the due dates and to not put off any assignments to the last minute. Reviewing and studying before and after school each day is going to help me achieve this goal. Besides school, another high priority is making the time to spend with family/friends. The time spend however little it maybe say an hour during dinner with family/ friends will help me unwind and take a break from what is going to be a mentally and physically challenging program. Hence, it is important to balance these top priorities, as these priorities both go hand in hand with each other and will help me achieve overall success. Medium priorities are priorities that will also
Time management techniques are essential to living your life more efficiently. Many people spend their days in a frenzy of activity but achieve very little because they are not concentrating on the right things. By using time management skills, you can learn to determine which of the things you do are important, which can be dropped, use your time in the most effective way possible, break down the roadblocks that waste it, and increase the effectiveness.
This piece of reflection will focus on my progress and experiences during my placement in Campbelltown Hospital Medical E ward. I will be using the Gibbs 1988 model of reflection (Gibbs, 1988). This cycle helped me to reflect in a structured and effective way. The subject of this paper will reflect on my time management skills whilst maintaining the necessary standards of practice at all times (NMBA, 2016).
Primarily, before I was able to use my time management skill to benefit my academic success as a student at Miami this term, I had to follow certain procedures. The first thing I did in the beginning of this semester was that I created a, To Do, list to help me identify a few items and the reasons for doing them. I create these lists every Sunday to guide me through my weeks of school. The first thing in the list is to make sure I go to sleep on time, so I can wake up on time and arrive on time in class every day. Another method I follow is the daily and weekly planner which helps me writing down my appointments, classes’ times, and meetings’ times on a
Managing your time takes a lot of weight off your shoulders and can make you feel very relieved. Time management relieves stress, anxiety, and procrastination. As a new freshman at the University of Evansville, time management stands as a recurring challenge of mine. Between taking 15 credit hour classes, which consist of three honors courses, working and studying, my time to live is pretty much gone. Since being in DISC 110 Student Success Strategies, which I found crazy at first to even be in, I have learned strategies to successfully manage my time management challenges to ensure I stay on track each semester and for the rest of my academic career.
Conducting a time analysis was a pretty eye opening experience for me. I analyzed my time from Saturday 6/15 through Friday 6/21. As a family man, the fact that I spend a great deal of my time, over half, during the course of a week working and sleeping is somewhat unsettling (see Figure 1 – Weekly Time Analysis). I spend an average of 55 hours per week working, a minimum of 11 hours each day, 5 days a week. I slept approximately 5-6 hours per night, a total of 40 hours for the week. The combination of the two is about 56.5% of my week’s time. Studying took up around 20 hours or approximately 12 %. I spent 7 hours in my car during the week, which was to and from work for the most part.
The standard way of thinking about time has it that one should always use their time wisely. Therefore, they’ve been a few stories that depict and describe how to and which way to manage time. From The Tyranny of the Clock by George Woodcock, to The “Busy” Trap by Tim Kreider, and How to Live on 24 Hour a Day by Arnold Bennett, all in a way or ways describe how one can use his or her time properly. However, if one were to contrast these three stories, they would find that George Woodcock and Tim Kreider have more in common, then Arnold Bennett.
Since I learned how to write the task came relatively easy to me. I have no problem putting my thoughts onto paper or doing the necessary research to give accurate information. However, I struggled with punctuation, run on sentences, sentence fragments, comma splices and most recently to-be verbs. I can get information down easily enough, and I have a good flow to my papers. However, time management and procrastination set potentially A plus papers back a lot.
I never had any problems with managing my own time, however, when I started working as client training administrator at Eversheds, I understood that I need to use some special techniques in order to complete so many tasks in such short time. I understood that every day has only 24 hours and no matter how busy I am, these hours not going to be longer. Observing how everyone working at Eversheds, I also understood that people who are more effective in planning their time tend to be more productive and more efficient. It was hard to learn how to prioritise, because sometimes I had many tasks and all of them were very important and urgent. However, over the time I learned to understand how to deal with different tasks and how to do them faster
Right now I have the privilege to be in a program that is growing and stretching me in the area of how I manage my time. I am usually not very successful at managing my time personally, but being as busy as I am in my internship, I have made my time a priority. I usually only have one day off a week and I use it for resting and resting alone. It might seem counter-productive to take a day off to rest, but rest assured that my other days are jammed packed full of productivity. For me taking a whole day off is like rewarding me for a job well done, which means I work the entire day for the other six days in the week. I feel like I can do more, work harder, and be awake longer during those days because I give myself that day to look forward too. I don’t know if I would suggest this to everyone, but for the season that I am in, this is definitely working beautifully.
It is rightly said "Time and Tide wait for none". An individual should understand the value of time for him to succeed in all aspects of life. People who waste time are the ones who fail to create an identity of their own.
When I first evaluated myself in the study skill academic test, time management was my weakest skill overall. This was priority in terms of skill development because I would always leave things till the last minute and stress myself out trying to turn in things on time. In order to improve this I made a smart goal to carry out in the beginning of the year. Now after some time, the results of my progression are shown. My smart goal that I created for myself regarding my time management planned out very well, I was able to successfully accomplish a majority of my assignments on time. I would review the material of the week on Monday’s and compile all of the assignments due for the week. The monthly calendar was also a key factor in helping me keep up to date in the month so see what where upcoming tasks the following week. If I needed more clarification on certain tasks then I would login and check the syllabus.
Now that I have identified the problem and its causes, I need a plan to overcome it and rid it away. Being effective at planning my time ,taking responsibility for developing realistic planning by using my knowledge, finding enough time to do extra activities and practice regularly sport to don’t manage my time poorly any more. By actively managing my time I use my time to create more chances to succeed, thinking flexibly on managing my time like balance between time for work and time for fun.
Understanding that making time for one is not only useful for academic purposes, but for entertainment purposes as well.
There are three things in running my unit that affects my team’s success: my managerial effectiveness, inspiring others, and developing leadership in employees. 1. Developing Managerial Effectiveness is the challenge of developing the relevant skills — such as time-management, prioritization, strategic thinking, decision-making, and getting up to speed with the job — to be more effective at work. 2. Inspiring others is the challenge of inspiring or motivating others to ensure they are satisfied with their jobs and working smarter. 3. Developing Employees is the challenge of developing others, including mentoring and coaching. I may not have the same challenges of other company leaders but these three in my service at Villanova seem to be the most effect on my workday. I have the unique opportunity to have the job on campus that incorporates the tasks that require three different individuals to do the things I am responsible for accomplishing. This is why my managerial effectiveness is important to establishing a time management that drives my day. If I get caught up making sure all of the management stuff gets done, I will lose sight of motivating others and developing my employees. Admiral McRaven talked about changing the lives of 800 million people over the range of a generation. Tom Peters talked about not allowing organization to strangle you. Jeff Immelt talked about productivity and cost which affects my business and is key to our success. Leaders have to promote
