After watching Back to the Future, Edge of Tomorrow, and 12 Monkeys, I realized that time travel is a very interesting and thought-provoking topic. Some people would say they think time travel should be used if it is found to be possible. I disagree, I don’t think that it should be used. There are lots of ways time travel could be good and benefit humankind. But, there are also bad ways it can be used, which strongly outweigh the benefits.
Time travel could be used as a very useful tool in helping prevent disasters like viruses spreading, outbreaks of wars, and many other undesirable events. “We could take people who don’t deserve to hold a position of power and make sure they don’t enter that position” (Rosenbaum “Is Time Travel a Good

Any given action you make in the past could threaten your existence. Many people say if they could time travel they would go back to stop or kill Hitler.
“While this may seem like a heroic thing to do, the most disturbing part is that you may never exist if Hitler never became the Nazi leader. Events that we think we have no part in whatsoever can actually affect our family tree, and if your great-grandfather would have ever met your great grandmother, and if he hadn’t, then he has different children, and they are part of a completely different future from what had existed before” (Rosenbaum “Is Time Travel a Good Idea?”).
Also, there's a paradox where if you were successful in killing Hitler then he would remain unknown, and therefore you would have no reason to kill him. “if Hitler died before he became known, then you wouldn’t know who he was and therefore have no reason to travel through time to murder him” (Griffiths “The Dangers of Traveling through Time”). Also, Political candidates can use time travel to eliminate their competition and gain undeserved power. “A time-traveling machine will be the equivalent of a nuclear bomb. It can destroy civilizations and make one country hate the other for having one” (Rosenbaum “Is Time Travel a Good Idea?”). This is very true, time travel will divide and cause disruption between countries. Countries without a time travel
Eckels travelling through time even after learning the risks is another example that shows that all actions have consequences. Eckels wish to kill a dinosaur was about to come true, as he came millions of years ago to get the perfect hunting experience, but it wasn’t what he hoped for.
If I could time travel, I would travel to the 1860’s. Time travel would be very complicated to do. In order to travel to the 1860’s I would need a lot of funding. Time travel has not yet been invented. I would travel to the 1860’s because I could see what kinds of guns soldiers used, see how the soldiers fought in the war, and see how Robert E. Lee was killed.
Even though a vast majority of us wish that it was possible to turn back the hands of time and change or rewrite history. However, the truth of the matter is that we simply cannot. Everything happens for a reason, and we should learn to accept it. Accept it for what it is, rather than what we would like it to be.
Kipp’s first interaction with physics was when he got his degree in Chemistry, to then progressed into a now 20 year physics teacher. Throughout the interview Kipp’s answers were all very specific and detailed, especially for the guy who said, “ I might not be able to fulfill whatever you are trying to accomplish” Kipp and I both believe that time travel has mostly been a pop culture topic that has been presented in movies, but he believes that, “Most people’s concept of time travel is not factually based on laws of physics, but on what they seen on television shows, which is more fiction than fact”. He means that people don’t understand time travel with all the sciency raw materials, rather than the fictional facts that they seen on films and videos. Thus, weaving away more and more through the actual fact that people should know, and becoming more comfortable with the make-believe details. With this concept still going, humanity is decreasing their ability in the future to ever be able to time travel.
Travis explains how stepping on one mouse can affect all the generations after that mouse and after that which can slowly start affecting the bigger picture, with bigger animals. Using this futuristic technology without proper research or knowledge on how it works creates a huge catastrophe. No one has really done much research on the time machine or how it works. This causes people to do things that they don’t know will affect everything. This technology is a portal that can affect the future. You can do one thing in it, and it will change everything past that point in
In “A Sound of Thunder” the use of time travel and how it affects the plot line is preferable, as it helps with the character development and overall theme. How time travel, in correlation to science fiction, is often a quick way, just to make a story science fiction, nonetheless it was truley well done in this short story and was consistent throughout the entire story, “First a day and then a night and then a day and then a night, then it was day-night-day-night. A week, a month, a year, a decade! A.D. 2055. A.D. 2019. 1999! 1957! Gone! The Machine roared.” (Page 289-Ray Bradbury). Unlike “A Sound of Thunder” in “Nethergrave” There were minimal elements of science fiction, and it only truly came into play towards the end of the story,
I think the past will always be extremely relevant. Life is full of billions of possibilities and it’s hard to make choices sometimes, by knowing even a little bit about the past, you’re much more likely to end up where you want to be. You can draw on situations in the past to help you make decisions about situations in the present. Yes, there are a lot of things that are extremely different now, but there have always been times in history where things had just become extremely different. When fire was discovered, when soap was invented, when electricity was discovered, when the telephone was invented, indoor plumbing, cars, computers, theory of
Most people believe that the only way to get they want is to go to war or revolt against those who treat them badly. Some people also fear that good and honest people will turn to this type of violence to get what they want because it worked in the past. Look how the Pueblo Indians dealt with the Spanish, how Thomas Paine believed the only way to get their freedom from Britain was to encourage everyone to join the fight, and how Thoreau was afraid of expanding America because it meant the increase in slavery and in the chance slaves would turn on the United States of America to win their own freedom. History can be used to learn about our past and to see how it has affected the way the world acts today.
Let us begin by saying that time cannot be stopped nor slowed down but must be followed. Meaning that on some occasions we
If I could travel back in time there would be many places in time and many things I would want to fix and do. Although the main time period I would want to go back is to whenever I first moved to Texas from Italy. While Italy was amazing, especially the food and I would love to go back there anytime, Texas was a much more exhilarating experience. Whenever I first moved to Texas was my sophomore year. Therefore, if time travel was possible I would go back to the day before we drove to Texas and the first thing I would do is tell me to get my permit in Texas. While that would be the first thing I would tell myself to do, I would also then tell myself everything that happened while I lived in Texas and the breathtaking experience I had while I
I learned from making my time line some dates for things that happened and how certain things got started. For example, the Secret Service, I had no idea that the Secret Service got started after President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. I also did not know when police officers first got paid, or when the first law enforcement officer got killed. I also did not know that 1930 was the single deadliest year in law enforcement history. I determined which events to add in my time line by either how they were connected to today or if it was an important fact such as when the first police officer was killed in the line of duty. I did
Chronokinesis, fourth dimension manipulation, temporal warping: each is a decorative way to describe time control, my most favorable superpower. Superheroes are usually defined as possessing skillful powers, but to me they’re people who work effortlessly to protect and help in any way they can. Whether it’s super strength, invisibility, or flying, only with the power to control time and space could I save everyone. No other enhancement has the ability to hinder crime, prevent accidents, or even stop an invisible evil like disease or corruption. By shifting “space” time to distort our dimension, controlling a specific object or area could protect not just a single damsel or city, but the entire world. I could pinpoint exact moments and change
In Einstein’s curved-space-time universe, things are far more flexible. You always move into the future, traveling through time second by second, but not able to go through any faster. It is still called time travel because to move through time. It is called moving on a time-like curve through space-time. If the curve becomes too large, it loops in, causing time loops and becoming a closed time-like curve. Such phenomena is predicted by the Theory of General Relativity, that time will “loop”, resulting in a person to relive a certain part of his/her live over
Besides time travel theories on physic and philosophical, there are also paradox theories about time travel. One paradox theory is the grandfather paradox. The grandfather paradox means that if someone can go back in time and
It moves “backwards” rather than “forward”, and people set their minds on what has taken place, not the future. No time, in turn, is defined as what has not taken place or what has no likelihood of an immediate occurrence.
