As hip hop’s first all-female crew of MCs to rock the microphone at old school block parties and clubs like the Rooftop and Latin Quarters, The Mercedes Ladies paved the way for female rap acts such as The Sequence, Finesse & Synquis, Salt ‘N Pepa, Deadly Venoms, Oaktown 357 and the Conscious Daughters.
These compositions were usually longer in length than the usual pop songs, which made them less radio-friendly. They were usually over five minutes in length, so the genre kept more obscure than the more radio-friendly pop genre. Psychedelic rock has also branched off to many different subgenres, such as space rock, acid rock, and psychedelic pop. Hard rock, heavy metal, progressive rock, and experimental rock can also be said to have emerged due to psychedelic rock (“Psychedelic Rock”). Often considered the first of the psychedelic rock bands, the 13th Floor Elevators released their debut album The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators in 1965 (“Psychedelic Rock”). These bands wildly experimented with their sound, which attracted many other new musicians to the genre, and even bands who had established other sounds started to become attracted to the psychedelic rock genre. Bands from the earlier British Invasion era also moved towards the psychedelic rock genre. Bands such as the Beatles and Rolling Stones, with albums Revolver and Their Satanic Majesties Request, respectively, marked a more psychedelic move. The genre later died off in the mid-70s, after many years of declining numbers of fans and material after the original heyday of psychedelia. However, for it’s time, the genre affected many, musicians or not.
There is no better way to describe the year 1968 than as important, tumultuous, and just flat out crazy. The three articles this time around looked at the whole year and outlined different important events and ideas that came about during this time. I wanted to touch on the Tet offensive, the different social movements of the time and the role of the media. All of these aspects came together to form the perfect storm of 1968.
This hit album was held in high regards due to its credits of bringing alternative rock and grunge to the mainstream music. The band was well known because when their performances ended they would destroy their instruments making that what they became famous for. In 1992 the members grew uncomfortable with the success they had built because speculations arose about Kurt Cobain being a heavy heroin user. Despite these speculation their third album, In Utero, came out in 1993 which didn’t meet the same sales expectations from their second album

Their mainstreaming of punk and rock propelled them into stardom in Japan, but not in the United States. The subsequent fame of members Joan Jett and Lita Ford commanded some new fans in the 1980s, and inspired a movie based on the band’s rise and fall. Though at one point, they were Japan’s fourth-biggest musical import, they never reached that sort of fame in the States.

1982 Los Angeles, set the stage for a groundbreaking music scene, fusing Punk, Americana, Rock and Roll, and incubating the city's most defining bands including X, The Blasters, Los Lobos, The Germs, and The Bags. TLC was formed in 1991 in Atlanta. It comprised singer Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, rapper Lisa “Lefe Eye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas. They managed to appeal equally to pop and R&B audiences, blending catchy hooks and bouncy funk with a playful, confident attitude (Steve). Their individual personalities were clearly different : T-Boz sang the no-nonsense, Chilli the pretty passages, and Left Eye brought the rap. Left Eye also contributed to the songwriting ("TLC Biography."). The song “Waterfalls” was written by her. In 1991, TLC scored a record deal with LaFace Records. When the tour finally ended, Panic was finally able to return to Las Vegas, their home. To their delight, it was announced that Panic would record from the Palms Casino Resort, in Las Vegas. In January 2008, a cover for their new album was released, but to long time fans confusion, the exclamation mark was removed from the band name. The album entitled “Pretty. The record hit No. 2 on the “US Billboard 200”. “I think it’s the most fun and the happiest we’ve since we started”, Ross stated. Over a year after the overwhelming success of Pretty. On March 22nd, 2011, the album named “Vices & Virtues” was officially released, thus returning the exclamation in Panic! at the Disco.
