In some cases, this popularity has led to tough anti-street racing laws which give more strict punishments (including misdemeanors for attending race events) than normal traffic citations and also often involve dedicated anti-racing task forces. San Diego, in Southern California was the first US city to allow the arrest of spectators attending street races.Penalties for violating street racing laws now can include impoundment and even destruction of the offending vehicle and/or the suspension or revocation of the offender's drivers
fter the Reconstruction era, Southern states passed Jim Crow Laws to limit and/or take away rights from African Americans. In 1890, Louisiana passed the Separate Car Act which required railroads to provide equal but separate seats for white and colored people. The Citizens’ Committee to test the Constitutionality of the Separate Car Act raised money to challenge the constitutionality of the Act. Homer Plessy, a 30-year-old shoemaker took up the challenge. Homer had seven white grandparents and one was black. In this situation, he was legally termed as colored or black. On June 7, 1892, he bought train tickets to Louisiana and sat in the area reserved for whites. He told the conductor that he was black and when the conductor asked him to move

The practice of prohibiting felons, especially former felons, from voting is anti-democratic, anti-constitutional, and antipathetic. A felon should be permitted to vote, assuming the felon is not a psychopath. Psychopaths are irresponsible, untrustworthy, and if they were allowed to vote, they may influence society in negative ways by voting for the politicians less tough on crime, for example. However, if a democracy is so frail that it cannot withstand the votes of those who are incarcerated, then something is very wrong with the democracy and needs rectifying.
Many people pay traffic fines in California, but not everyone is impacted in the same way. According to a new report from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area [1], traffic fines in California have an outsize effect on low-income drivers and people of color.
My gripe is with texting and driving. This is one of the most serious public health issues of our time. I cannot for the life of me believe this practice has not yet been outlawed. Last year in the United States, driver distraction was the cause of 16% of all fatal crashes, killing 5800 people. A further 515,000 people were wounded as the result of distracted driving. The worst part is that up to 50% of teenagers the least experienced drivers on the road report texting and driving. We are teaching the next generation to drive without teaching them about responsibility. Other states have already passed laws, but our politicians are on record as saying they cannot ban something they do themselves. How irresponsible! Thankfully, Senator Jim Duncan is proposing a bill that would outlaw texting and driving. The evolution of the Presidential ads in this country is different among other countries. Starting with the 1952 election of President Eisenhower political ads were dealing with the issues of the time not attacking the person who is representing the opposing party. With the recent election in 2016, the political ads of today have evolved into negative, hate-fueled, and personal attacking ads. The evolution of the ads has become more negatively filled as time has gone on.
NASCAR has been in existence for nearly 60 years and it a widely recognized sport, which is only second to the National Football League (NFL) (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014 p. 429). The drivers ability to interact with fans and, also fans having the opportunity to get up close and personal to view the cars, makes it a very unique brand in the Motorsports arena. In my opinion, this is one of few sports where athletes are treated as "traditional" human beings, rather than celebrities that require scores of security officials, monitoring their every move. The economic downturn of NASCAR was due to several issues, in which, NASCAR could have addressed, had they reviewed the marketing strategy. First, the lack of diversity of drivers were a concern amongst
Morrison, Colorado has the reputation for being a speed trap. Nonetheless, despite its well known reputation, it's a fair guess that the majority of its revenue still comes from traffic violations. Most smaller municipalities are highly dependent on traffic ticket income. It's the way it is in America. If you haven't caught on to this by now, then you need to get out more.
The split between the Indy Racing League and Champ Car was considered a tough and bittersweet “pill” to swallow. The split seems to revolve around a directional disagreement which strayed away from the original vision of the IndyCar Company. Throughout my research, I have found no true definition if the split was completely unsuccessful, but the evidence would definitely suggest this idea. Additionally, when the split occurred, a rift was created among the many supporting fans and the once committed corporate sponsorships (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The split did come at a time of strong competition and a declining economy. However, I did discover that during those times of hardship (IRL & CART) focused on specific marketing plans that
States across the nation have seat belt laws in place that make it a requirement for drivers and passengers in vehicles that are being operated on public streets to wear some sort of safety belt. In 1998, 41,471 people were killed in 6,334,000 reported motor vehicle accidents in the United States. Seat belts are estimated to save 9,500 lives each year, and statistics show a higher degree of seat-belt use in states that aggressively enforce seat belt laws. The laws, as well as the punishments available for violation of the laws vary by state. In most states, however, it is considered a misdemeanor and punishable by a small fine. The properness of an arrest for such violations is a good question and has been
During fair weather days, for many years, the safety of Philadelphians of all ages out on the street is put in jeopardy by clusters of off-road vehicles. The Philadelphia Police Department currently maintains a no-chase policy against these motorists, making them virtually immune from prosecution because the law cannot reach them. Recent deaths have highlighted how the careless drivers who operate these vehicles in the City of Philadelphia are to the public, and to
Many children dream of growing up to be a professional racer. One of the racing sports is motocross. Being a professional motocross racer takes effort, practice, and money. The effects on professional motocross racers who have factory sponsorships include financial security and perks not available to private riders.
Halting disproportionate of black drivers in light of the fact that some little rate are crooks implies that skin color is being utilized as confirmation of wrongdoing. In actuality, obscurity itself has been criminalized. What's more, if "driving while black" is a capable sample, it is not alone. For example, in 1992, the city of Chicago sanctioned a statute that made it a criminal offense for group individuals to remain on open avenues or walkways after police requested them to scatter. The mandate was utilized to make more than forty-five thousand captures of generally African-American and Latino adolescents before Illinois courts discovered the law illegally dubious. Supporters said that the law really focused on gang members who made
1. Preemptive arrests is when an individual is arrested before committing a criminal act. In my opinion, I don’t agree with the idea of preemptive arrest. The reason is because I believe that an individual should commit a criminal act in order to be arrested, not prior to. If a person does not commit a criminal act, then what is the point of them being arrested? In addition, in the film the precogs used their vision so that the police could see how the crime would unravel, and with that vision, it allowed for them to make a preemptive arrest (Neubauer & Fradella, 2014). In the film when the precogs predicted that Andertson would commit a murder. In my opinion, I don’t think that the visions of the future should be sufficient
In The Cask of Amontillado, Edgar Allen Poe displays the theme of revenge. In the story, Montressor narrates the story and feels he has been wronged by Fortunado and vows for vengeance against him. Montressor attempts to justify his future crime to the reader. “A wrong is unredressed when retribution overtakes its redresser. It is equally unredressed when the avenger fails to make himself felt as such to him who has done the wrong.” (Poe 101) Fortunado is unaware of the wrong he caused Montressor by insulting him. Montressor feels that this is reason enough for his retribution. “The thousand injuries of Fortunado I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed for revenge.” (Poe 101) The thought of revenge is
