The first modern Olympics was held in Athens, Greece, in 1896. The first foot races were held at this event. We now refer to these exciting races as track. The races consist of sprinters, middle-distance, and distance runners. The races can range from 100 meters all the way up to 10,000 meters. All of these runners have different jobs and roles on their teams. A great deal of precise and dedicated training goes into their workouts. Despite the distance they run, track runners are extremely hard workers. One type of runner in track is the sprinter. The original Olympic event know as the stadion race, was a sprint of around 180 meters. Now there are generally three different sprint distances. These consists of the 100 meter, 200 meter, and the 400 meter dash. Most elite-level sprinters train about 20 hours a week for races that are just seconds long. They have to train on the track, in the weight room, and in the kitchen. Michael Johnson and Tyson Gay are two very talented runners that ran for USA. The greatest sprinter of all time is a Jamaican runners named Usain Bolt. Usain Bolt is considered a legend on the track. He has been to 4 olympic games, where he collected 8 medals, all …show more content…
Long-distance events in track include the 5,000 and 10,000 meter races. Many people consider the long distance runners to be the hardest workers of the three types of runners. A typical week for a distance runner like Galen Rupp consists of running up to 135 miles per week. This is done with no rest days and two sessions every day. Long-distance runners lose gallons of sweat every week, so staying hydrated is very important. Mohamed, Mo, Farah is the most famous distance runner in the world currently. He was born in Somalia, but he runs competitively for Great Britain. Mo has four gold medals from two different Olympics, making him the most successful British track athlete ever. He is well known for working very hard in

Usian Bolt is an Olympic sprinter who has won three gold medals consecutively in the last three Olympic games. Bolt being the fastest man in the world, I’m sure it’s clear that he was training for this since he was a kid. At an early age, he played cricket and sprinted, and people took notice that he was very good. A former Olympic athlete took him under his wing and started training him. Bolt won the highschool championships medal and the World Junior Championships when he was 14 and 15 respectively. He competed in the 2004 Olympics while he held the second fastest time in the 200-meter sprint. He was predicted to win bronze, but he had a hamstring injury and was knocked out in the first round. Bang! Off go the runners. Today’s olympics have a myriad of differences from the ancient olympics held in Rome. Nowadays, we have an impalpable amount of sports to compete in, like: Equestrian, Aquatics, Gymnastics, and tons more. In addition, today's Olympics are now multicultural and accept more countries from all around the globe to spectate, host, and participate in the games.
It was not believed however that he would beat Michael Johnson’s record of 19.32 which was set in the 1996 summer Olympics in Atlanta. Bolt’s time was 19.30 in spite the fact he was impeded by a headwind of 0.9 m/s and he ended his run with a jog twice. Two days later, as the third leg of the Jamaican 4x100 meters relay team, his number of gold medals increased to three and along with his teammates Asafa Powell, Michael Frater and Nesta Carter, he broke another Olympic and World record, by three-tenths of a second. He left the 2008 Olympics having broken 3 Olympic and World

The Olympics first began on April 6th, 1896, but back then there were few similarities with the modern day Olympics. With a small crowd cheering on only a few sports and all male athletes, there was not near as much publicity and fame as today. The two hundred eighty participants gathered in Athens, Greece from thirteen nations around the world. Thus the first Olympic Games were underway. The forty three events took less than
Since track began, it has changed greatly. The Olympic games started in the year seven hundred sixty-six B.C, when a local cook from Elis named Koroibos won a race at the nearby stadium; the foot race was six hundred feet long. That event was the only athletic game for the first thirteen Olympic festivals (“Athletic”). Ancient texts hold: “From seven hundred sixty-six B.C, the games were held in Olympia every four years for almost twelve centuries. Additional
Part of the races is being able to run that long for that fast. The runners need to know how to breath right and right angles and if the change the distance it will give an advantage to the shorter people and a disadvantage to the taller.usain bolt is the fastest runner known in the world, if we were to change the rules he would come almost in last place.i think that usain bolt is the fastest because he know how to cope with how tall he is and he know the right breathing patterns that work for him and i think that's why he wins. Don't think about the start of the race, think about winning and finishing it-usain
During the first Olympic games there was only one event, a short sprint, where athletes would sprint from one end of the stadium to the other and the Olympics would only last for one day. Later on, the Olympics lasted longer by adding four days of competitions including wrestling, boxing, long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, and chariot racing.

The first revival of the Olympic Tradition is said to be around 776 B.C., when the Delphic oracle instructed the king, Iphitos of Elis, to hold festivities to honor the gods. At the time, there was a plague throughout Greece, so by honoring the gods with the Olympics, the Greeks hoped to end the plague (Perrottet 188). The very first Olympics consisted of only one event: the 200-meter race. It would take 52 years for another event, the 400-meter race, to be added (Cousineau 92).
Most people believe that the Olympics started around 776B.C. at Olympia (in southern Greece) and were held every four years around August or September. Records show that these festivals ended around 393A.D. They were held to honor the Greek god, Zeus. Zeus had a grand stadium in which the competitions were held. At the stadium, a visitor could only view nine sports: foot races, which were measured to be approximately 200, 400 and 4,000 meters in length, the pentathlon (discus, long jump, javelin, running and wrestling), wrestling, boxing, pankration (a combination of wrestling and boxing in which everything was allowed except biting and gouging; kicking, strangling and breaking fingers were all allowed), a foot race wearing amour, and a four-horse and a two horse chariot race. The women were not even allowed to watch because of the deathly violence that the fighting events could bring. All events, except for the amoured foot race and the chariot race were done in the nude. The winner received a crown of wild olive leaves and there was no second or third place. Additionally, sometimes the winner would receive free meals for life from his own country. The winner could also build a statue of himself at Olympia (The Olympic).
