Traditional American Dream Research Paper

The American Dream is the chance for a person of any gender, race, sexual orientation, or or anyone of diversity to have an equal opportunity to change their and become happy and successful in their own eyes. Three books that explain the American Dream are The Bean Trees, by Barbara Kingsolver, Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer, and I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, by Maya Angelou. Each book includes the main character trying to change his or her life by finding what makes them happy. They all leave their hometowns and have a chance to start over.

In paragraph 1 the author is saying that “it is not a dream of owning motor cars and high wages” (Clark paragraph 1). He says that an american dream is to have social order. He also says that each man and women shall be able to attain the fullest stature of which they are capable. Which means all men should be created equal.

The late 1700’s was a time of promise and an expectation of freedom. Millions of immigrants flocked to America in hope to acquire the “American Dream.” Hard work, white picket fence, a stable life, religious equality, the whole nine yards. In the 1700’s the American dream was substantially different than it is now a days, due to the colonization of the whole country, the modern laws in other countries, and our economy. I say that the American dream is different and have obstacles to concurred because of racism in the country. I think that the American dream will always have problems because parents have there kids growing up teaching them to be racist. Another reason is because people will look at black people a different way towards getting jobs and accomplishing something just because of the way they came up or was raised they will always look at black people different. The final reason why I say this is because they still have police that are racist and other people who are white that see you with some money and will always take it in a negative way like if you work for it and you not an athlete or rapper they would think you sell drugs or do something else. The American dream is hard on stuff because of racism and always has been since before everything happened with slavery even on other races like Chinese, Hispanic, mexican, and Arabian people, they make like the people are meant to do certain jobs just based off their race.

The world is full of amazing people, with American dreams. They dream on the life they have always wanted. In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry the four main characters, Walter, Bennie, Ruth, and Mama. Today I will be writing a paper based off each characters American dream of their own.

Picture a long, windy road, and ponder upon the surroundings, the different paths, and the potential obstacles located within it. Consider the different types of creatures and objects that are found amongst its surroundings, and the roles that they play in comparison. When thought about, the road can be a metaphor for one’s life. Life is a journey filled with many different twists and turns; you never really know what direction you will be taken in, and with everyday comes a brand new adventure. There will be hardships and struggles- some of which may even seem impossible to overcome at times. With perseverance, however, positive outcomes with also occur, which brings into existence the American Dream ideal.

The American Dream is a broadly known philosophical idea which thrives around the moral that all individuals have an equal opportunity to thrive and become successful in America. My parents, born and raised in India, decided to move to the United States in search of an enhanced quality of life, where the economic opportunities were endless and a brighter future was essentially guaranteed. In my paper, I will discuss how the new, changed, and promising immigration policies caused me to grow up in an upper-middle class community, which has directly impacted the number and quality of opportunities I have in life.

For many people, the idea of American Dream is every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to accomplish success and shaping through hard work. It seems that the phrase "American Dream" has been formed in the minds of so many people, including those who never knew where is America located in this global, how large it is? Or what it has? Why there are so many people want to live here?

I think that The American Dream is living in a 2-story house with all of your entertainment needs. This includes having a pool, movie theatre room, and any other rooms/outdoor activities. The American Dream also includes having a family that gets along and can talk to each other when they need to. A family that gets along consists of how many kids you want and pets. The family needs to get along with everyone. The American Dream is also having lots of money. As an American the dream can be multiple things depending on what type of hobbies you have such as going on trips around the world, having a good job and house, playing in major leagues or just becoming president. The American Dream is the idea that every United States citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success through determination, hard work, and initiative. I believe the American Dream is a reality because America has more freedom compared to other countries.

Oscar Wilde once said, “A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.” (44) Dreams are a polarizing idea, not because some people hate dreams, but rather some people hate the incessant optimism that follows. However, everyone does dream, whether they like them or not. This constancy gives rise to various situations: psychologists who think they can analyze such dreams, artists who think they interpret their own dreams, or authors who think they can convey theirs’ and other's’ dreams. John Steinbeck is an avid example of this with his novella, Of Mice and Men. In this novella, Steinbeck uses dreams as an important allusion to the American Dream, but with a negative attitude due to the Great Depression. Many of the characters, from Curley’s wife to Lennie, divulge the dreams they have or the dreams they have had. However, through these conversations, many of the characters and readers alike come to the conclusion that dreams are elusive, even to those who work hard for them.

The 1930’s was a scarce time filled with hunger and poverty. The Great Depression was especially hard on the Americans. Stock markets crashed and many people wanted to take all of their money out of the banks. This caused banks to have a money shortage, leaving many people poor. Everyone was affected by this from the richest to the poorest. Another tragedy that occurred in the 1930’s was the Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl was the end of a major drought in Western America that created large amounts of dust. At the end of the drought there was a large tornado that ripped through the flat land of the West. This tornado picked up the dust and flew it through the West filling up homes with dirt. With money being so scarce, many men would take all of their belongings in a bag to find work. These men were called migrant farm workers and they tended to travel alone. In this novella, Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses George, Candy, and Curley’s Wife to contribute to the overall theme of the American Dream will always fail.
