As the largest private employer in our metropolitan area with over 43,500 employees, our workforce has a massive impact on local traffic. We have been contacted by representatives of the city and they have asked us to reduce this impact. I, as the supervisor of operations, have been assigned this task of analyzing the workforce’s transportation habits and to find realistic solutions. Over the past 6 months I have been processing surveys and have collected data that will be portrayed in a form of pie charts and bar graphs. At the end of this report, I will conclude my findings and will provide some recommendations to be successful in minimizing the impact that our workforce has on local traffic. ANALYSYS OF WORKFORCE’S TRANSPORTATION HABITS Figure 1 illustrates the employee carpool habits, the frequency of use: carpooling portion of entire workforce. As you can see in figure 1, carpooling is not a famous transportation habit of our workforce as the purple portion represents 64% of our entire workforce that never carpools to work. Only 23% carpool every day of the week, carpooling is rarely used within our workforce and it is something that …show more content…
I believe this an area that needs a lot of attention, there is a lot of room for improvement. The future is here and technology is at its peak. One of the possible solutions is that we should look for ways on making telecommuting possible for the employees. We should invest in new technology that can make this happen; company-owned laptops and electronic devices that can make communication easier without the need of having our employees come in to the office every day. This possible solution will not only relieve the impact on local traffic but I can bring many benefits to our company that will help us expand and save on variable
Austin, Texas has a problem with traffic congestion. The solutions is Mike Heiligenstein and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority. The popular city in Texas is constantly growing; consequently the traffic problems are a significant issue. The traffic problems in Texas can be managed, but not eliminated. According to the Central Texas regional Mobility Authority,(CMRMA), a technical solution is the key to managing the difficult traffic congestion. Traffic solutions involve more than the creation of new roads and highways. Mobility Authority strives to create innovative solutions to manage traffic issues in Austin, Texas.
Since this data was recorded during the early and late morning, cars are supposedly more likely to be seen, as residents were heading to work. Furthermore both Roads are commonly used by residents of Brisbane as they connect to Gateway Motorway, which is considered one of the most busiest roads Brisbane. In both surveys, buses are in second of most vehicles during the day, as majority of trucks that travel pass these roads to return back to their companies or delivering to buyers. Only seeing motorbikes once on each trip, it is the third most common form of vehicle in the Mansfield Community. Motorbikes are only seen once perhaps, since most residents of Mansfield are families so they wouldn’t need to buy one seated vehicle. Having last place tied between the buses and pushbikes. Perhaps the public buses weren’t seen travelling by due to its timetable and our timetable. In contrast the number of pushbikes encountered during our survey suggests that Mansfield residents are unhealthy or most pushbike riders are at work which decreases the likelihood of spotting
| Multiple means of transportation are noted. Most people drive cars to work in the city because the housing becomes more rural and dispersed outside the city limits. Two people are noted to be riding pedal bikes through town. People who live within the city can also walk or take the public bus. The municipality owns the buses and
Have you ever considered taking the buses, not car, to your destination? According to his essay “The Bus, a Modern Panacea,” Lester Detroit states that VTA system offers a fundamental solution for not only the SJSU student but includes the majority who commutes to school or work. He claims that cars have the negative side effects for the environment problems; furthermore, cars are the problem of both traffic congestion and wasting time and money. He insists that students should “drop their car culture and create a new bus culture.” Bus is the “cure-all solution” for students. As for students, I strongly disagree with Detroit’s point of view that VTA system is a suitable transportation for students to commute. It is important for students to realize that not a lot of people know how to transit, taking bus is inconvenient, safety concern, and pollution.
Thank you for providing the California Department of Transportation (Department) the opportunity to review and comment on the Traffic Impact Analysis (TIA) report for the City of Chino Kaiser Medical Office Building. The proposed project site consists of approximately 8.96 acres, and is located on the northwest quadrant of Grand Avenue and Roswell Avenue adjacent to the east side of State Route 71 (SR-71) and an approximately 1.50 miles south of State Route 60 (SR-60).
Telecommuting can help cut down on transportation and other minor costs for IBM’s employees as well as lead to a lower overhead for the company. According to a report done by Global Workplace Analytics "A typical business would save $11,000 per person per year [while] the telecommuters would save between $2,000 and $7,000 a year” (2017). Unfortunately, many employees do not have the luxury of living close to their place of work. According to a recent census, “It now takes the average worker 26 minutes to travel to work [while] roughly a quarter of American commutes are less than 15 minutes one way [and] nearly 17 percent of commutes are
Downtown Toronto is an urban area that has many transportation problems that revolves around congestion. Congestion occurs when the demand to travel to a location is greater than supply to get to that location. For instance, some of these problems includes traffic congestion, public transit inadequacy, and difficulties for non-motorized methods of transportation, i.e. bikes. Traffic congestion occurs when there is a large quantity of vehicles using a small fixed amount of land, in addition to slower speed limits, stalling of vehicles and accidents on the road. As previously mentioned, the population in Toronto is continuously increasing, as well as the demand for transportation. Due to the demand of transportation methods exceeding the supply results in a rise in traffic on the roads, and therefore creating more congestion. (Farahani et al., 2013). What makes matters worse is that an increase in traffic, especially in urban areas will result in an increase in vehicle collisions. The outcome of these collisions creates more delays and therefore, more traffic. Secondly, a significant transportation problem in Toronto is the inadequacy of public transportation. The City of Toronto, is a location that has many
Increasing air pollution from cars has been linked to lung disease, heart attacks, and cancer, air pollution is responsible for 6.4 million deaths every year (“Health Impacts Of Air Pollution”). Besides climate affects prolonged commuting time also has consequences for our health. The average length of commute in the United States is 35 minutes one way (“Commuting Times, Median Rents and Language other than English Use in the Home on the Rise”), in smaller cities such as Portland Oregon the commute is 26.6 minutes and in larger cities such as New York it can be over 45 minutes (Average Commute Lengths). A study from psychology today found that “the ride to work is also associated with increased blood pressure, musculoskeletal problems, lower frustration tolerance, and higher levels of anxiety and hostility. It can cause bad moods when arriving at work and coming home, increased lateness and missed work, and impaired cognitive performance” (Wei). More cars mean more traffic, forcing drivers to leave home earlier, arrive home later, and spend prolonged amounts of time in sitting in congestion. Urban sprawl has also been associated with low levels of physical activity, due to the lack of sidewalks, fewer places to go to such as restaurants and stores (Frumkin). Low levels of physical activity have several adverse health effects such as lowered bone density, lifespan and increased chance of heart disease. This idea
The chart compares the average proportion of commuter travelling by car, bus or train each day in UK from 1970 to 2030.
Estimates vary one study from California reported that the individual value of time for a commute to work is between “50-90 percent of the average wage rate”. Local economic dynamics play a role in the equation. A study on the HOT Lanes in Texas determined that Katy Freeway traveler’s value of time was approximately “42% of their equivalent hourly wage”. It demonstrates the fact that the more one values their time, the more likely they are to use the toll
78 bus drivers who were employed at a northwestern transit company in the United were analyzed for 2 weeks. Each driver answered questionnaires before work,
Large cities and populations rely on public transportation to reduce traffic congestion and vehicle emission as well as provide a means for citizens without personal vehicles to travel to important places like work, school or the grocery store. Critically important infrastructure to any city, without a reliable regional transportation system those who cannot afford cars are greatly impacted. Such groups may be confined to a particular neighborhood which may result in lack of accessibility to jobs or other important resources, in modern cities neighborhoods cut off from transportation can become increasingly poor, see elevated crime rates and more likely to continue to be separated from the local economy. Beginning operation in 1973 Sacramento’s public transportation system grew with the population of the region, in the past two decades the system has extended even further to incorporate outside cities. The system
Reaching record highs, Atlanta’s congestion has put enough drain on economic development to warrant the need for immediate action. It’s has become necessary to develop any policies that could help alleviate some of the burden on roadways. Exploring the issue, there are four possible policies that have been examined to reduce congestion in Atlanta. Each policy has its costs and benefits, and strengths and weaknesses looked at under a critical gaze to determine which, if any, policy is up to the task of fixing the traffic nightmare the citizens of Atlanta currently live in.
People traveling everyday to same place or nearby area and coming back should travel with each other. In his way hundred vehicles on road can be bring down to twenty vehicles. Organizations should also motivate and assist such actions of their employees. Consequently, people can save on fuel, vehicle deterioration, carbon emission, driving inconvenience and journey with friends and colleagues can be better than travelling alone.
To conclude, public transportation and car looping are things we should use and take advantage of if we really love our environment. We should also educate people about them, encourage to use them more often and how they can help us all to have a better clean healthy environment for next generations.
