Transcendence is the experience we have in relation to our religious environment, something that pulls us out of ourselves to something objectively greater. Also, it is the aspiration to achieve something more. A way of life, prayer, and worship embodies spirituality. Including the gap between what we are, and what we aspire to be. In Greek, there is the concept of “Askesis” which is the art of living, and the Greeks aspired to theorize an art of living well. The Greeks had another concept of “Praxis” which is the idea that our “spiritual transcendent life needs to be worked on,” and comes through discipline. Citizens of Ancient Greece were focused on finding a theory and philosophy of what the universe was about. Their method of spirituality

Transcendentalism was a literary movement in the 19th century that deliberately pushed forth the exploration to define spirituality and nature in a new context. So much as it is to explore, the movement had an undertone of rebellion against current societal circumstances in which writers during this time sought to change not only their environment, but also the reinvention of oneself. Also simultaneously, the Industrial Revolution took place during this time and glorified the economic growth, which sparked an era of new human thinking.
Transcendentalism by definition means to live a rational life with nature and becoming one entity that rules over itself. That seems difficult though because living in this day an age without having to worry about anything or about anyone else is like asking for forever lasting gum. In the book Into The Wild, Chris McCandless tries to do just that and succeeds. While on his journey to Alaska, Chris becomes the embodiment of transcendentalism. He embraces multiply of the qualities of transcendentalism but there were three that were the most prominent throughout the story. According to definitions online, a transcendentalist Philosopher is a person that accepts ideas as a way of understanding life relationships rather than religious beliefs. Moreover, Transcendentalism describes a very modest idea. Men, women, children, and people in general are knowledgeable about themselves and their surroundings that transcends beyond what they can see, feel, taste, or touch. Transcendentalism is a movement that developed in the early 1800s in America. Transcendentalism taught that individuals and nature alike were purely good at heart, but they had been corrupted by society. They believed that each individual has unprecedented power when completely reliant on themselves. This is completely and utterly contradictory to what the Bible says. The Bible states that everyone is corrupted by sin and needs Jesus to be saved from that sin. In addition, the Bible tells us that we must be dependent on God and that we ourselves cannot achieve anything without Him. Therefore, I believe that transcendentalism is completely ruled out by the Bible in many ways.
The term Transcendentalist describes a group of people who came up with a new approach to solve the conflicts of life.
