Transitioning into high school can be a stressful time for many students. Majority of this stress is most likely linked to the fear of failing to be accepted by fellow peers. Initially, I avoided joining extracurricular clubs and teams for this reason. However, deep down inside I knew that it was silly of me to have this fear. With a little courage, I finally decided to try out for the boy’s tennis team. I, along with my fellow freshman classmates, were welcomed with open arms by the upperclassman. On the court it seemed as if we were one big family ready to support one another no matter the circumstance. These became my go-to friends for the remainder of high school. Going to tennis practice became something I looked forward to at the start
The most challenging obstacle I faced was during middle school. Not only was I outcasted simply because my character did not fit into a whitewashed rich boy image. Most of my classmates would simply only think of themselves and how they can make themselves even more popular. During middle school I still hadn’t realized not fitting in would be fine. Not only did this incident brought me depression people simply didn’t care. Simply giving me punishments every time my grade fell. I would still tell myself to be happy that everything would be all right. But all it did was give me a fake mask to face reality.
Coming to this school made me change into a completely different person these last three years. My whole educational career I was always trying my hardest to be on the honor roll team and have the most perfect attendance. I never thought I would’ve ended up in the plight I’m at now as a graduating senior. There were many deterrents outside of the classroom that affected my performance in school, as it showed drastically in my grades as well as my attendance. In this essay I will be discussing those obstacles, who were involved, who helped me, and how I overcame them to finally get my high school diploma.
Preparing high school students for college is every parent and teachers goal but sometimes that goal is hard to achieve. Students are not getting a proper education now-a-days and they do not realize that it is going to hurt them after they graduate. A study says, “That composite score dropped to 20.9 among high school students in 2013, the lowest in eight years” (Adams, 2013). That is a very low average and it is because what students are learning in high school just isn’t sticking with them through college. After students graduate they start taking harder classes, some have to start paying their own bills, and so many other changes they are not ready for. It is a big jump to go from high school to college and I think schools can do a better job of preparing students. It is their experience and education in high school that is going to help them in college. If they are not ready they are going to struggle which will result in some not so good outcomes such as having low grades or even worse dropping out. I do not believe that high school education has prepared students for college because there are many useless classes, it is more about memorizing than learning, and students drop out in a year or less because of the workload.
My first day being a Freshmen was by far the hardest day of my life. I went to Mississinewa! I didn’t know any of my teachers, and I didn’t have any classes with my friends. I remember having gym class with a lot of boys and I hated it, because it was all juniors and senior boys. At the end of my freshman year I actually ended up moving to Marion High school.
Senior year for most will be the beginning for most people to start the path to becoming an adult and making decisions that will impact the rest of our lives. One decision most will be making is which college to attend after high school. Requiring students to research on what college will fit best for them. The college I have chosen to research is Kirkwood Community College.
Due to my lack of extracurricular activities, I became depressed and somewhat anti-social. It wasn’t until my sophomore year that my life began to change. Overweight and always sick due to the amount of processed and junk foods I consumed to feel better about myself, my doctor recommended that I find a way to be more active. I had no idea what I wanted to do, until one of my lifelong friends told me about the tennis team. Knowing that it was more of an individual sport with few players, I felt that my chances of making the team were stronger. She convinced me that the small environment would be beneficial
“The traditional high school focus on an American and British literature tends to weaken secondary students’ ability… Routinely, college professors report that freshmen arrive unprepared for… college work”, stated in a Walden University journal research. Recently, numerous students lack the required skills to succeed in specific courses, transitioning students who are unprepared for college. Formulating an education for students improves the transition and readiness for college and career paths because improved academics increase the preparedness for college, available programs provide an in depth knowledge of college courses and promoted internships accumulate experience and information for career demands.
I was thirteen when I graduated from middle school. It was a big day in my family, my parents hadn't finished high school, so they were very excited to see another daughter move onto high school and higher education. This was an event that showed how willing I was to pursue an education, in my family it showed maturity and responsability.
Children confront many transitions throughout their lifetime that can be stressful. They face their first transition from home to school, elementary to middle school, middle to high school, and high school to college or work (Schumacher, 1998). However, the transition from elementary to middle school seems to be harder for adolescents due to the personal changes of puberty. Research suggests that roles, expectations, and responsibilities are the primary concerns of students (Akos, 2002). In order to make this transition easier, programs such as “blocking, shadowing, or buddies” need to be implemented the year preceding middle school and continue through the first year of transition.

There are a lot of differences between High School and Middle School. Being in middle school, students have a lot less responsibilities and are limited to what they can and cannot do. While High schoolers have more responsibilities but they get more freedom, such as picking classes and what they eat for lunch. Let's discuss some of the responsibilities of an average high schooler.
The fear of starting high school is a fear many teens get towards the end of 8th grade. I mean why wouldn’t we? Movies and stories don’t really make it out to be this magical place of happiness where everybody is honest to each and all is good. No, instead you see kids losing their middle school friends, girls being two faced and stabbing each other in the back, and boy being pigs. Why would somebody want to go there when they are told from the start they are going to have to basically start their life over? Sure plenty of kids have no trouble or fear and turn out just fine, but I was the one scared out of my mind to start. I, like many others, was assured all would work out and I would “find my place and who I was” and it will “be fine”. Why wouldn’t I be fine? I had friends, I didn’t stand out, and people generally didn’t
High school allows people discover who they are, whether it’s in the classroom or in extracurricular activities. Even though extracurricular activities play a minor role in college admissions, they define people and help them discover a talent they possess. I, myself, have participated in many activities, such as National Honor Society, Math Club, and Ping Pong Club, but the one that has been the most meaningful to me is tennis. Although the definition of tennis is, “a game in which two or four players strike a ball with rackets over a net stretched across a court”, many don’t realize that there is much more to this sport.
Not so long ago in a not so far away place. A teenager stands in front of a steely gray building on a dull fall day. It's the first day of high school, more specifically the last first day of high school for many students before they enter the world of adulthood. James Dean was your average public school senior, as normal as they get really. James had enough clothes he had the newest I phone a beater car what more could he really need other than better grades. Bottom line James family was normal he had a little sister and a mother and father who loved their children. James on the other hand yearned for adventure he longed for the excitement. In his dreams he would sail the seven seas. Life had never seemed so mundane James heart was somewhere else these days he knew adventure was only for the bold and he did not feel bold at all he felt like a lam in the lion's den. Sighing James put his favorite fire truck red beat headphones on and walking into the lion's lair. In the swarm of nervous wrecks, loud mouths , prima donas , nerds , people masked with sunglasses and the scrubs. James put his head down and went to find his first class it was music studies. Mr Alan was making a ruckus in the back room full of sheet music and vinyls. The smell of the old dingy room enter his nose filling it with the sense of peace.
High school is the stage of final preparation before one may choose to attend college. It typically eases the mind of a high school student to know whether he or she is ready for college. Not only does the comfort of feeling prepared apply to school, but also many other stages and events in a teenager’s life. Teenagers in high school are often times self-conscious beings, and strive to feel confident in everything they do to decrease the chances of feeling embarrassed or unintelligent. The question is, what does being ready mean, and how does one know if he or she is ready or not? In regards to being ready for college, all high school students in the U.S. should pass a competency test in math, reading, and science to ensure their readiness for a college level education.
