True is the top ranked basketball play in the country, he often is compared to Lebron James. Trues basketball team went up against the second best high school prospect in the country in King Gadsen, True missed the game winning shot. Later that night True went to a park for some peace and quiet from people asking him about the shot. While relaxing True started to hear the bouncing of a basketball, when True walked over to see who was there he saw the man dunk like Lebron. True confronted the man after remembering his face at the game earlier that night. The man said that True should have passed the ball to the open man instead of shooting a contested shot, and that winning is more important than a statline. True met the man in front of a
Basketball was my favorite sport growing up. I’ve played since I was little and I still play the game today. I played basketball at my elementary school, St. Cecilia, from Kindergarten till 8th Grade and also played AAU basketball for about 2 years before entering High School. Going into my freshmen year of High School, the first sport I played was basketball. Tryouts began in about the start of November and ended about 2 weeks after. I had made the Freshmen A team. I was excited and as the season progressed, we didn’t win many games but I still had fun playing. Nearing the end of the season, golf was another sport coming up that I also wanted to try and play. I say “try and play” because at the time, I was also going to play AAU basketball. I had set in my mind that I was going to play basketball for all of my four years of high school, but my parents pushed me to tryout for golf. When the basketball season ended, golf tryouts started. Tryouts lasted for about 2 weeks, and I made the JV team. When I found out I made the team, I was very surprised. I hadn’t put in the hard work as others before tryouts came around, but the coach saw potential in me and that I can become a great player. The coach saw so much potential in me, that every week, I kept progressing in skill and fine tuning my mechanics. Halfway through the season, about 4 or 5 weeks after I made the team, my coach gave me the chance to play with the Varsity Golf team for a couple days. I was excited and eager to
“Only 8% of high school athletes go to the next level.” There are very few kids that will pick a school sport over a travel/AAU sport. A sport of choice is anyone's decision, but who you play for could be a big factor. Kids from all around the world play travel sports trying to improve on specific skills. This could lead kids into not playing for their own high school team, but going and playing for someone trying to gain recognition or get a higher level of competition. The cycle of kids abandoning their team for a travel team needs to stop; it is taking away from the community as a whole and MHSAA should issue restrictions against students choosing travel leagues over school sports.
Gordon Hayward, an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the Boston Celtics, was arguably the most talked about NBA player during the opening nights of the season. Sadly, he was talked about, because of his season ending injury. Five minutes into his first game as a Celtic, Hayward lands awkwardly, fractures his left tibia and dislocates his left ankle. Silence fell as the crowd witnessed this gruesome injury.
It should come as no surprise to the producer, WFAN radio and MSNBC who simulcast nationally the show that eventually Don would cross the line with his “often close-to-the edge style of humor; he regularly trashed any interest group… for he was an equal-opportunity offender.” Don should have persuaded the networks that his comments as well as all the other comments made over the past 30 years were not meant to be amusing, not hurtful. The controversial comments that he made in reference to the Rutgers University women’s basketball team was in line with his “close-to-the edge style of humor” that he has made over the past 30 years. Don was well known for his communication style directed at anyone regardless of “age, gender, body type, political
The Bishop Garrigan Basketball program is ready to bounce back after losing to Newell-Fonda during last year’s second round playoffs. The Boston Celtics seem to be not done yet looking for available superstars that they can add to their roster. In the latest trade rumor, they seem to be still not satisfied with their current lineup and said to be moving to acquire the services of Paul George from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for 3 players.
Regarding physiological needs, the Brooklyn Nets have done well in providing basic needs. Specifically, the water cool is almost always full and there was only one period of time during my internship in which I witnessed it not being full. The water fountains are always kept, the nozzles are also clean. Also, there is food constantly being given at company meetings. I mention this because in these facts because I have worked for employers who never treated their employees to food. Also, I have had employers that have had dirty, unkept water fountains for their employees. These former employers had high turnover.
When researching if a NBA franchise has a positive effect on the city it resides in from multiple sources economists mostly all agree there is little if not any impact. “If every sports team in Chicago were to suddenly disappear, the impact on the Chicago economy would be a fraction of 1 percent,” Leeds says. “A baseball team has about the same impact on a community as a midsize department store.” (Bergman, 2015).
The Cleveland Cavaliers are having an impressive performance in the ongoing regular season. As expected, they are currently at the top of the Eastern Conference division holding a 28-9 win-loss record. But some observed that they still lack depth on their roster and recent reports are saying that they have Andrew Bogut under their radar as one potential target.
After missing out on a few restricted free agents including Portland Trailblazers' Allen Crabbe, and Miami Heat's Tyler Johnson, the Brooklyn Nets were still able to add some quality role players that can provide some minutes off the bench.
The Pacific University men’s basketball team made five-consecutive free throws in the final 1:42 to post a 60-56 win over host Lewis & Clark on Saturday in Portland.
The LeTourneau University women’s basketball team posted an 87-79 win over UT Dallas on Thursday night in Longview.
Houston Rockets superstar Dwight Howard has denied reports and speculations that he is looking to be traded and leave the “broken” Western Conference Southwest Division team behind with the February 18 trade deadline fast approaching.
Within Hollywood’s movies depiction of drug addiction, many have failed to represent all true aspects that come along with such lifestyles. The movie, The Basketball Diaries, is based off a novel Jim Carroll wrote from his own diary entries. As a teenager growing up in the sixties, Carroll reveals his progression of drug abuse which eventually leads him addicted to heroin.Heroin is a white powder derived from morphine found in opium. It is commonly prescribed as a painkiller, but is also a popular street drug. The director casted Leonardo DiCaprio as Jimmy, and concentrates on creating the character as a stereotypical drug abuser. DiCaprio’s most captivating scene is when he is going through heroin
For my second observation I went back to my elementary school from when I was younger and observed a second grade physical education class and their teacher Mrs. McFarland. It was a rainy day so the lesson was held in the cafeteria. I observed Mrs. McFarland teach the first lesson of basketball to her class, before class she told me that this would be the first lesson of a 6 part lesson. When the students walked into the cafeteria they immediately sat down in their assigned spots on the floor, Mrs. McFarland stood up at the front of the room by the stage area and all the students. When all the students were seated Mrs. McFarland gave a very brief explanation on what the students would be doing that day and then they started with a warm up. During the warm up the students started out galloping around the room to music and when the music stop she would shout of jumping jacks and the students would do jumping jacks until the music came back on. They did this warm up for about 5 minutes and then went back to their spots and sat down. Mrs. McFarland went back to the front of the cafeteria and began to talk to the students about what they would be doing. She gave a demonstration of the triple threat position and then asked the students some questions about what they saw her just do. Next, she had the children grab their our balls and come back to their spot so that they could practice some ball handling drills. They used their finger tips to ping pong the ball from hand to hand,
