Many characters in Romeo and Juliet died before they knew the whole truth. Juliet did not tell her parents about her marriage with Romeo when they were forcing her to get settled with Prince instead she agreed. If she had told her parents about her marriage, they might have agreed to her decision since she was their only child. If the secret marriage was revealed before, many character wouldn’t have to face that many problems. Most of the problems rose when Romeo did not tell about his secret marriage with Juliet to her cousin Tybalt. The result of Romeo’s hiding the truth was death of Mercutio and Tybalt. If Romeo had told the truth before Tybalt would not hate Capulets as much as he did without knowing the secret. In the play, nurse helps
Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet, two star-crossed lovers, will do anything to show their deep affection for each other. Since they are from two different families, who happen to be enemies, they can be punished for expressing their love for one another. Unfortunately, their passion sparks many outrages. Due to Father Capulet’s feud with the Montague family, Romeo and Juliet's love life results in death.
“Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into the friend,” Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr or also known as MLK was a civil right leader. He fought for what he believed in. He believed that all whites and blacks should be equal. In this quote, he explains that love is the only way to make your biggest enemy you friend. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Romeo is a Montague and Juliet is a Capulet. Their families have been rivals for ages. Romeo had walked into that party that night seeing Juliet and thinking she is the most beautiful women he has ever seen. The quote is related to this story because it brings out the aspect of hatred among the families and how Romeo and Juliet transformed themselves from an enemy
Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film, Romeo + Juliet effectively appropriates the Shakespearean 16th century love tragedy. So why has Luhrmann decided to appropriate Romeo and Juliet? By changing the context, Luhrmann effectively makes the play relevant, discussing his contextual concerns of the 1990’s. This is done through the use of themes in the film, love, family disputes and hate which have remained similar to the original play, although the way they have been presented are different, in particular the form and characters. The form has had an obvious change as the original play has been adapted into a film. Characters in the film have also been appropriated to correspond with Luhrmann's contextual concerns. Hence, Luhrmann successfully appropriates the original Shakespeare play, Romeo and Juliet by maintaining similar themes, but altering the form and characterisation to fit his contextual concerns.
When Juliet hears that the wedding has been moved up to the next day, she drinks the
Justice is defined as being fair, right, or lawful. To determine if an action is just, the question “was it morally right or wrong” must be answered. In law today, justice is determined through written rules or laws. Similarly, the novel Romeo and Juliet uses the idea of justice, for two lovers have families are at war, which creates great tension throughout the families. The two families, the Montagues and the Capulets often begin riots throughout the streets of Verona, which causes many complications for Romeo and Juliet, as well as challenges the idea of justice. In the novel Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, justice was not achieved through the Prince’s ruling.
The lies and secrecy in Romeo and Juliet are what leads to the lack of communication that causes them to kill themselves. If their marriage was not a secret, Romeo would not have been banished, Tybalt would still be alive, and the families could possibly join together as one without Romeo and Juliet being dead. It is the lies and secrecy that caused the death of Romeo and
In Act IV of Romeo and Juliet, things start looking up for Juliet as Friar Lawrence gives her a potion to fake her death so she will able to escape with Romeo. Hurrying to the Friar’s cell to seek help, Friar Laurence tells Juliet to plead for forgiveness and she would drink a poison that will fake her death for 42 hours. Leaving Friar’s cell Juliet hurries home to plead for forgiveness and that she will agree to Paris’ marriage. After being forgiven Juliet is starting to have doubts about the potion, but drinks it anyways. Going on at the same time, the Capulet family is preparing for the wedding in the morning. In the morning, the Nurse discovers Juliet’s “dead” body and everyone is confused and saddened at the sight of their child
Secret is defined as something that is kept or meant to be kept unknown or unseen by others. If that is true, why do we tell others our secrets? No one's secrets are truly theirs, at some point anxiety will build up, information accidentally comes out, or you may just tell someone. Your confidentialities are not always yours, at a young age kids tell their parents everything. As those kids grow up, and become teens they start to develop barriers between their parents. Not telling them whatever is going on, at school or at practice can only last so long. This is hardly the case, because everyone has told their friend or parent something that was meant to be classified. For example, if one player on the basketball team knows a secret about another player, the whole team knows. That is due to the fact that we are a family and don’t care what we think of each other, because we are one. Trustworthiness is hard to prove, confidence is needed to tell someone a secret. If the friend is not trustworthy then that secret could be floating around school completely changed from its original stature. A secret is only a true secret if it is kept with only yourself. Just as honesty is evident in life so it is in literature. In William Shakespeare’s famous love story, “ Romeo and Juliet” and in life, withholding secrets is the
Do not apologize for your absence, dear friend, as I have come to terms with your family’s busy schedule. Either way, I would like to be the first to congratulate you on such a momentous occasion, and fully support your unification with Romeo. Never has it crossed my mind that you would ever engage in such acts of love, being one to always detest the idea of a life-long commitment. Nevertheless, I feel the need to remind you of maintaining modesty and your composure, to ensure you don’t succumb to the unwanted pain that love can bring forth. Those initial feelings of love can often drive those inflicted to engage in irrational acts, which can be quite dangerous in your circumstances. Although I lack sufficient knowledge of who this Romeo
To begin with to the statement made earlier about the claim that the Montague's and Capulet's were responsible for the death of their children. If both families didn’t have an ancient grudge bot4h of the children wouldn’t have died. The both families had an ongoing grudge that didn’t allow them to be married to one family to the other. In document A, “Two Households”, it states in the third line “From ancient grudge break to new mutiny.” Proving that both families had or have a grudge and that made the turn into a war. Making both households have a fight. Finally, if anyone had any contact with the opposing family they will be killed probably making Romeo and Juliet very scared to be together.
“Never attempt to win by force what can be won by deception.” ― Niccolò Machiavelli. The term deception takes a part in betraying another for one’s self interest. It was a key element within Shakespeare’s work. Romeo and Juliet is one of the prime examples of this topic. They showed deception very clearly by hiding their actions and betraying their families, leading to their tragic ending. However, it was not the only piece Shakespeare wrote that showed the multiple consequences caused by an act of betrayal. The power of deception and the consequences that follow is a staple in literature, and no one shows this idea more clearly than Shakespeare.
Romeo tried to break up a quarrel between Mercutio and Tybalt that was gradually becoming physical. Tybalt saw this and tried to fight him as well. However, Romeo did not wish to fight. Romeo felt a certain family-like love for Tybalt since him and Juliet were married and Tybalt was now his cousin as well. Tybalt did not know this and continued to provoke a fight anyways. Maybe, if Tybalt knew about the marriage, then the fight could have been avoided. At the same time, however, Tybalt might have been angry if he knew. The fight went on and ended with Mercutio losing his life and Romeo avenging him by killing Tybalt. The Prince of Verona then banished Romeo from the city, stopping him from seeing Juliet again. Due to the secrecy of their marriage, no one but Romeo and Juliet themselves saw this as a problem. Since Lord and Lady Capulet did not know about their daughter being married, they arranged her marriage with Paris. This then led to Friar Lawrence's second plan which involved the sleeping potion. When the potion put Juliet into a death-like sleep, only her and Friar Lawrence knew that it was a hoax and everyone thought she was dead, even Romeo. This caused him to kill himself to show his love and try to be with her in the afterlife. When Juliet woke up from her slumber, she saw a deceased Romeo and killed herself as well. This second lie and secret of Juliet faking her death to get out of marrying Paris caused the deaths of Romeo, Paris, and herself. Once both the Capulets and Montagues heard of their children's deaths and of all of their secrets, they became guilty and ended their feud. This is one of the only positive outcomes to come out of this tangled web of
Many lives could have been spared had the characters paid closer attention to Romeo’s and Juliet’s actions and words. If key characters, such as Nurse and Frair Lawrence had paid closer attention to the events, and comprehended the threat, Romeo and Juliet’s death might not have been so premature. On the night of first meeting Romeo, Juliet has already decided that she is in love with him and wants to be married, “Go ask his name.-if he be married, my grave is like to my wedding bed… My love sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown too late! Prodigious birth of love it is to me, that I must love a loathed enemy.” [Act 1.5. 133-140] Nurse informs Juliet of Romeo’s family name, Montague, her family’s sworn enemies. If Nurse had stopped the progression of Juliet’s love for Romeo at that point, or if she had informed Lady and Lord Capulet soon after, Juliet and Romeo wouldn’t have had a chance to be together; also, Mercutio wouldn’t have died because Romeo’s love for Juleit wouldn’t have conflicted his fight with Tybalt. If Nurse had only weighed the danger in these very early lines, or thought about the drama that could entail,
Shakespeare does this by noting how Romeo and Juliet do not actually love each other. This is represented by Romeo and Juliets actions and rash decision making. Their decisions are very impulsive and rushed. As a result, it impacted them negatively in the future and as well as their relationship. Romeo and Juliet’s love for each other is not actually how love really is. They’ve mistakenly confused lust for love.
Juliet, you don’t know what you are about to do.This potion could change your life forever, or even end your life. This all started when you and Romeo met at the party. Romeo instantly fell in love with you and wanted to marry you. At first you didn’t know if it was true love since it happened so suddenly. Even though you knew it might not be true love you married him anyway, which was irresponsible. Your marriage caused Tybalt’s death, which lead to your dad wanting you to marry Paris. Now, your wedding to Paris is tomorrow, and Romeo is in Mantua. Juliet, you can’t drink this potion, it may kill you, your family will be devastated, and your brain is not fully developed to make this decision.
