One of the most serious problems facing all veterans today is the lack of proper healthcare. Soldiers, sailors and airmen are leaving active duty without having proper healthcare to cover their physical or mental injuries. The department responsible for veteran’s healthcare is the Department of Veterans Affairs. (VA) According to The department of Veterans Affairs website, “The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is a government-run military veteran benefit system with Cabinet-level status. It is responsible for administering programs of veterans’ benefits for veterans, their families, and survivors. The benefits provided include disability compensation, pension, education, home loans, life insurance, vocational rehabilitation, survivors’ benefits, medical benefits and burial benefits. It is administered by the United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs.” The VA, who was formerly called the Veterans Administration, was established 21 July 1930, to consolidate and coordinate government activities affecting war veterans. The VA encompassed the functions of the former U.S. Veterans ' Bureau, the Bureau of Pensions of the Interior Department and the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. On 25 October 1988, President Ronald Reagan signed legislation creating a new federal Cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs to replace the Veterans Administration effective 15 March 1989 (V.A.)
The Department of Veterans Affairs’ mission statement is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's veterans. The department attempts to fulfill its mission through its Core Values. These values are captured in the acronym “I CARE”. It stands for Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, and Excellence. The department has a presidential cabinet secretary and is responsible for overseeing all veterans’ affairs on behalf of the United States government. The department has three administrations: Veterans Benefits Administration, Veterans Health Administration and National Cemetery Administration which
Paralyzed Veterans of America is a nonprofit organization serving for veterans founded in 1946. This foundation, unlike other ones, has developed a unique and deep research on the diverse and several issues that veterans have been going through when suffering spinal cord injuries or dysfunctions produced at war times. Paralyzed Veterans of America was born when a group of soldiers injured at World War II reunited to service their disable fellows. Paralyzed Veterans of America recruits members with energy, experience, dedication and passion to enhance the aims of the organization.
According to the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, over 8 million adults develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder during a given year ("PTSD: National Center for PTSD”). Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is defined as “a pathological anxiety disorder resulting after exposure to a traumatic event” ("Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder”). While any traumatic event may cause PTSD, a primary cause stems from action in war ("Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder”). The Trojan War, as depicted in Homer’s epic The Iliad, demonstrates the setting of which this form of disorder would likely be triggered. Greek warrior and hero Achilles displays common symptoms of PTSD in his journey throughout the epic, leading many researches to conclude he was a
I do not have a family member who served during the Vietnam War, but I did get to talk to a Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He had some mixed feelings about the Vietnam Veteran Wall being built. He thought that some of his fellow Veterans groups criticized the lack of patriotic or heroic symbols often seen on war memorials and complained that it apparently esteemed only the fallen and not the living veterans. Some of them claimed that the memorial wall is an compensation for their service since the war; to the families and friends of those who died, it is an formal acknowledgment of their grief and an opportunity to express sorrow that was not previously approved; to others, it is either a deep antiwar statement or an opportunity
Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) is an agency that specifically provides programs and services to those who have served in Canada’s armed forces. This organization plans to recruit post-secondary students to fill in their various positions through the use of giving away free VAC puzzles, which allowed users to twist and reassemble the pieces; the information presented on the item include the website URL (which is repeated multiple times), the Canadian flag, and key messages. Thus, their recruitment strategy was able to help them gather a large pool of potential candidates. Based on this case study, an analysis of the competitive advantages, the effectiveness of this strategy will be briefly summarized; recommendations will
There is a bidirectional relationship that exists between physiologic stress and a higher incidence of illness in combat veterans. There are several factors contributing to this including anxiety, anger, and depression. These constant physiologic stressors put additional strain on the body, which increase cardiovascular risk factors (Cohen, Marmar, Ren, Bertenthal, & Seal, 2009). This paper will examine the concept of transpersonal caring in response to the phenomenon of physiologic stress and illness in combat veterans with a relevant theory of guiding health promotion and treatment of disease in a caring-healing paradigm (Watson, 1997).

I am presenting this grant proposal to the Senior Living Foundation of American Foreign Services, based on your previous successful history in funding projects across the nation. The goal of my grant is to create a program that allows senior citizens the opportunity to have one-on-one training with today’s age technology in Gloucester County New Jersey. This program will help promote senior citizens knowledge of today’s age technology taught by our highly trained staff.
The structure of this report will begin with some background on the task that was assigned, the team’s member history, and how the group formed. Based on this backdrop, the report will continue to explain some thoughts and realisations about the assignment, its progress, the team as a whole and the members individually. The report will end with conclusions about the project focusing on what we did well and what we could have done better.
