The U.S. Military: History of Technology and Protection The U.S. military has been around since the early days of the United States. They have always been there to provide protection for its citizens. Many people are against war, but most can appreciate what soldiers do to protect this country. Military actions are not cheap though because of the equipment and technology that is required to do their job. The military is a certain service that the United States has needed throughout history, and it is still needed today. Because the military in the United States is undervalued, people need to be informed how important the military is to this country. After the

The U.S. military utilizes these branches in unison, and it is important to understand the difference between them. While understanding the operations that military personnel undertake; it is also equally important to understand all the problems that these brave soldiers face while performing their duty. Military personnel spend so much time deployed that problems are bound to happen. Some are deployed for years at a time. The normal person probably cannot handle the stress that constant combat puts on military personnel. Both mental and physical problems affect troops equally and everyone is different. Knowing the struggles they go through is a great way to learn respect and thankfulness for what soldiers go through. The most common problems that soldiers face is physical injuries. These injuries range from non-life threatening to highly severe. Predicting the severity of wounds and what types of injuries that people will get is often difficult, and long term affects are even harder to predict (Croll 102). Injuries differ vastly and have many different levels of severity. Many of the smaller injuries are not a problem today because of the nature of today’s medicine. Some injuries cannot be treated on that level however, and many soldier never live life the same way again. For instance, if a soldier loses a leg because of an explosive; he may count himself
The America I believe in, has a military that has fought for our freedom. Our military has fought for years to ensure our safety. Without the military we would be under the rule of an enemy country. The military is especially brave, and we can barely convey they are afraid. Like David Hackworth said, “Bravery is being the only one who knows you’re afraid.” We must be as brave as they are, and give them support. According to the web site army.mil, the military does what they ensure for us, since they acquire honor, integrity, respect, and courage. My uncle, Henry, is a retired veteran, and he has been through war. He stands a highly respected person in the military. I asked him when I was younger why did he join the military. Confidently, he
War affects the army as an organisation because it means they will lose soldiers and have to retrain new ones. An example of this would be the crash of Nimrod XV230 which killed everyone on board, that highlighted the cost-pressure of the war. The training and recruiting of troops is expensive enough but to constantly sustain the high amount of soldiers that is
The Civil War, also called The War Between the States, was one of the bloodiest wars in American history. What made the Civil War such a massacre? The Civil War was such a bloodbath because the technological advances were so far superior to the tactics of the infantry, that the weapons virtually obliterated the soldiers. Soldiers would form lines known as a battalions. In these battalions, soldiers would basically march to their deaths. In addition to weapons doing so much damage, fortification on the battlefield was far more advanced than had ever been before. The Cheveau-de-frise was the main focus of armored fortification in the Civil War. This fortification consisted of 10 to 12 foot logs with large spiked-shaped, wooden stakes
Being in war is definitely one of the most life changing events a person will ever have whether it be for the better or for the worst. Soldiers will witness events that are impossible to forget or see back at home in the states. Some soldiers may have even seen one of their best friends that they’ve known for forever get blown up into pieces right next to them, or they might even get one of their own limbs blown off of their own bodies, becoming handicapped for life. As a result of seeing something so intense like that, most soldiers are usually traumatized. In matter of fact, a great amount of soldiers are traumatized from the very beginning of being in war. It’s without a doubt difficult to deal with this but there are some ways where
The reverence that the American citizens have for the United States military stems from a multitude of different reasons, without a doubt our great nation contains a people with a deep resonating pride for their country. Starting with the founding of the United States, it was the revolutionary army (the United States first army) that won the Revolutionary War, gaining the longed for independence from Great Britain. The United States military then went on to win not only World War I, but also World War II securing trust and respect from the citizens of the United States. Since the Revolutionary War, there have been no interstate wars that have been waged on United States soil, making the United States a seemingly safe country to live in with
In war or peace, the military is a hazardous profession, and extensive service means more risk of serious injury (Morin, 2011). One out of every ten veterans alive today was seriously injured at some point while serving in the military, and three-quarters of those injuries occurred in combat (Morin, 2011). For many of these wounded veterans, according to Pew Research Center, the physical and emotional consequences of their wounds have endured long after they left the military (Morin, 2011). Almost all veterans are proud of their service, in spite of serious injuries (Morin, 2011).
Do soldiers really know how to treat an injury during a war? Well in the book The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara’s 1974 novel, we are exposed to historical figures that could have treated their injuries and made them minor if they knew how to. With the medical training we have today the figures could have saved their limbs and taking care of themselves. There were three figures that were most important and had the worst injuries. Such as, Kilrain buster, chamberlain, and Robert E. Lee.
In the book “ For the Common Defense: A Military History of the United States from 1607 to 2012” by Allan R. Millett , Peter Maslowski, and William B. Feis tell their readers about all the major historical events that occurred in the United States and how they either brought up or brought down the United States later in the future. The authors organize the book by listing the historic events in chronological order. The authors built the structure of the book by using a large vocabulary and by having a formal tone in order to catch their audience attention which are professors and/or students. The purpose of this book is to inform and educate others on the major historic events that occurred in the United States so that they will have a better understanding on the events that built up the Unites States.
As for myself, I do not come from a military background and I thought this experience would open my eyes as to what the servicemen and women endure while defending our country. The service members often enjoyed having conversations about their injuries and how they were placed in this unit to be medically evaluated, treated, and given time to heal. The majority of the service members were injured while being deployed in Afghanistan or Iraq. I have learned from them, not all wounds are visible and many suffer from mental health issues. Unfortunately, the military has a very high suicide rate.
The United States is a land that was created through war. To end a war we must have a solid army to defend the things we want to achieve. Whether its freedom from our fathering country’s or to show the power we have. Understanding how we have come to be from wars like the French and Indian war that sparked the beginning of the American revolution and the military culture and how the experience and significance of our country’s soldiers and militia men compared and brings us to our American military culture and the value’s of American thought, culture, and society. We would not have things like “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”, if it wasn’t for our great nations military force. A time period ranging from about 1755 to 1861 America has dealt with many trials and stipulations that
A lot of men see the differences in generations within the military, but few can see that early military formed everything in to the way the military is today. The purpose of this essay is to compare and contrast the Marine infantryman’s basic weapons of the 1940s and today, to include the rifle, machine guns and anti-tank weapons.
For centuries, war has consumed millions of souls. It has caused heartache and has torn families apart. Today, properly educated doctors and nurses can treat wounds and injuries with proper care, but this taken for granted assistance wasn’t always readily available. In the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812, nearly 30,000 American soldiers died. However, rather than being killed on the battlefield, the majority of soldiers died while being treated in medical tents. More often then not, the work of doctors and surgeons resulted in worsening the state of their patients, frequently causing their death. Medical practitioners did more damage than deed to soldiers during the American Revolution to the War of 1812 because of their little attention to individual patients, housing for patients, poor work ethics and habits, lack of knowledge and because major medical advancements weren’t achieved for another half-century.
The Civil War (1861-1865) was a time of great technology change. There was a very large amount of deaths during this time as well. The Union deaths amounted to about 360,000 men and the Confederate losses were avergerd to about 258,000. The main reason for this many deaths was because of the small amount of weapons both sides had. The Civil War was the time that very many military inventions were thought of or made. The telegraph and railroad are two of the biggest things that were invented during the Civil War. The telegraph made it easier for comunication and the railroad was a quicker way for the troups to transfer from one place to another. There were many other weapons that were made during this war, such as the submarine and the repeating
Numerous others endure physical injuries and wounds that are not generally noticeable. On account of changes in clearing strategies, body defensive player, and war zone prescription, numerous which might have kicked the bucket, can now be spared. A significant number of these injuries are regularly joined by tireless physical torment, and might frequently be confounded by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Depression. Seeing the demise and harm of companions and associates can turn out to be both mentally and physically harming. Untreated or undertreated, these imperceptible injuries can influence the person, as well as their families and parental figures too. They can affect physically, psychosocially, financially, and profoundly, taking without end personal satisfaction.
During the early twentieth century there are many advancement in military technology. One example of military technology was mustard gas. Mustard gas is a chlorine gas that deploys fifteen seconds after the pin is pulled and causes numerous hazards that came in contact with it. Another military technology advancement was long range artillery. Long range artillery is a mechanism that is hand loaded with cannon balls and launches them a couple of miles away. These technologies are important to World War One because they modernized the way we fight today. These technologies also had a negative impact on war and mankind.
