I have lived in North Carolina for almost fifteen years now. Throughout this period I have seen the abundance of opportunities here in North Carolina especially in education. There are countless numbers of great colleges and universities, however, since I have lived in the mundane city of Greensboro I feel constricted in my environment. Wilmington, being close to the sandy beaches of Wrightsville beach and home to a great university has led me to consider moving east. UNC Wilmington, being the state’s coastal university reflects the values of numerous things such as ethics, integrity, and diversity. These values, as listed in the mission statement, demonstrate how UNC Wilmington aims to excell an individual through a great variety of baccalaureate,
Elizabeth City State University and Saint Augustine’s University both have good Sociology Programs. Elizabeth City’s mission is to promote economic, social, and environmental progress for the people of northeastern North Carolina, the state, and the nation. Saint Augustine’s mission is to sustain a learning community in which students can prepare academically, socially and spiritually for leadership in a complex, diverse and rapidly changing world. Elizabeth City State University and Saint Augustine’s University are two colleges that share similarities and have differences when it comes to tuition, graduation rates and organizations that are offered on campus.

I believe that everything expressed in the mission statement of the university proves to be true. This is due to the experiences, and opportunities that I have participated in during my time thus far at Frostburg State
I am attracted to Berry College for both profoundly sensible and heartfelt reasons. It is a superb model of educational learning, individual and community responsibility, and business savvy through hands-on involvement. The wisdom and skills of the faculty and staff are well known and highly respected. This arrangement of work hard, play hard, and study hard as a team is exactly what I need. I am eager and excited to become the best contributor to society that I can be. Berry allows students the opportunity to construct a life map and create their own pathways. It does not hurt either that the rolling pastures, rich woodlands and immense size of the historic campus appeal to my “nature-hugger” upbringing and comfort me. I experienced life as
But by the end of my two years as a community college student, I had only dipped my toe into the vast pool of academic potential. Not only does the University of Washington offer infinite career and social opportunities, it provides a community of diverse student body and experienced professors all aiming toward the same goal of success. At the University of Washington I can continue my education and work toward a major that utilizes and builds upon my existing
The ODL and northern Virginia (NOVA) community college want to become a base model for all institutions offering DL programs in the Commonwealth to emulate while surpassing other outside educational DL competitors. The partners are committed to producing quality educational opportunities to all Virginians, but believe it is a viable investment to concentrate on the northern region. This northern region will allow the partners to target a population that values degree attainment and possess a vast workforce within a concentrated area. The Associate Vice President of the ODL proclaims that “Northern Virginia is where the people and the jobs are” (A. Casiello, Personal Communication, July 11, 2012). Additionally, the focus of the DL partnership is to surface as the DL choice for citizens from among a pool of DL providers.
The Golden LEAF Foundation recognizes the rural areas of North Carolina that are tobacco dependent or economically-affected. With the focuses of the Golden LEAF Foundation being agriculture, job creation and retention, and workforce preparedness, several areas of North Carolina have been able to thrive. The foundation also promotes education in rural and economically distressed areas, as well. As a future educator, I am enthralled with the remarkable work that the Golden LEAF Foundation has done and is continuing to do. Gaining an education at East Carolina University I believe that I will be able to change someone’s life through education and influence what they choose to do as a future career. My goal is to graduate with a Master’s in Music
The University of North Carolina is known as the “University of the People.” Until the 20th century, however, the people the University represented were of a specific niche: white men. With the integration of minorities and women into the University, well over a hundred years after it first opened its doors, came an influx of students from all backgrounds and belief systems. Despite its liberal reputation and its number of likeminded undergraduates, the University also hosts a number of conservative students who still ascribe to the values reminiscent of the “traditional” Christian, white, and male-dominated American South. Within this diverse student body is its members’ differing views on topics such as reproductive rights, same-sex marriage, and same-sex adoption. The differences in stances on these social issues are especially apparent among different political
Sincere College, an organization dedicated to educational greatness and culture, will vigorously advocate a broad community that principles, affirms, and promote the various backgrounds, importance, education, and goals of all of its employees. Attending college is just another step in life that will benefit you in the long run. Growing up in the U.S. we have been naturalized into following key steps, that are necessary to ones success. Coming from a small town known as Plymouth, NC, resources weren’t always available. At my high school, my education was challenged every day. I overcame these challenges by striving to learn more and staying at the top of my class. When I think of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, I think of a serene place with ample opportunities. At UNCP, I believe I can turn my dreams into a reality. My unique ways of learning can bring a lot to the table. I’m not only a leader in the classroom, but I’m a leader in my community.
Terminologies used to describe colleges and universities in the United States can become a source of bewilderment since they frequently equate the two. Add in the some of the for-profit entities erroneously touting themselves as members of the higher education establishment and misunderstandings abound for high school students attempting to make sense of it all. To summarize, a typical college’s mission centers around baccalaureate programs earning a variety of undergraduate degrees while those of universities concentrate on both an undergraduate and graduate education demonstrating diverse offerings. Adding to the mix includes community and junior colleges whose centerpiece continues as undergraduate education marked by the associate degree

Throughout the journey of my highschool career I developed a passion for both sports of soccer, and track and I overall developed who I am as a person and what job characteristics would interest me for my pursuing future. I realized that I want my job to consist of helping others, and being active within the community which led me to the topic of criminal justice. After observing the University of North Carolina Wilmington's web page I reflected on why it would be such a good school for me to pursue. Im very interested in attending UNC Wilmington because it provides the courses i'm very interested in studying which are psychology and sociology and criminology. Another contributing factor that leads my interests into UNC Wilmington are the athletics
I am a firm believer in the adage, “The university does not make the student; The student makes the university.” Therefore, I believe that my intellectual and academic interests could be explored at any university. However, I feel as though the University of Pennsylvania will provide me with an unrivaled pathway on which to explore my interests. Two distinct academic choices that caught my attention were Freshmen Seminars and Service Learning, due to their relevance to my interests.
“To become different from what we are, we must have some awareness of what we are” (Hoffer). The University of the District of Columbia brand is well known to most of the current faculty, staff, students, donors, opinion leaders, and community residents. On the other hand, the awareness of The University of the District of Columbia brand is not known to prospective students, faculty, and staff in the surrounding areas of the city. If I had the chance, I would market the UDC brand with thirty second infomercials, and distributing statistics and facts about UDC to local high schools graduates. Being more aware of what UDC stands for and how we are perceived by others plays vital role in promoting the great benefits that we offer. “The big challenge in branding a “living, breathing institution” rather than a product, says Blair Garland, director of marketing at Roanoke College (Va.), is that the lives of its students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff are intimately tied to it” (Business, 2008)
