My first encounter with a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia (CRNA) was during my undergraduate nursing OB/GYN rotation. I was impressed with the CRNA when she placed the epidural to the patient in labor. I remembered patient had difficulty staying still due to the contraction, but the CRNA took her time to explain the procedure while comforting the distressed patient. Once the epidural was in placed and the medication started working, I could tell the relief the patient experienced. I realized then that a CRNA goes beyond the delivery of anesthesia, pain management and monitoring of patients. Thus, obtaining this degree will prepare me to ease the patient’s mind through education, pain management, monitoring, experience and compassion.

The College JumpStart Scholarship will help me attain my goals by earning my bachelor degree in graphic design so I can become a professional graphic designer to a purse a career of my dreams. I am very compassionate about graphic design and how it can help me to achieve to start my own business to share my creativity and gift of art and share my amazing designs to people. I was accepted to University of North Florida and will begin classes in the fall semester. Looking back on my life, there were many difficult times my family and I went through. Those difficult times, however, became my motivation for pursuing a career in the medical field. Growing up my brother had to overcome many different obstacles. At five years old he started talking after we thought he never would. In kindergarten he contracted meningococcal meningitis and was hospitalized for a long period of time. A couple years later his appendix ruptured while waiting in the hospital emergency room. After a couple weeks he had to be transferred to Akron Children’s Hospital where he stayed for another month. During those times

I have been a part of JROTC for the past four years of my high school career. During my time in the program, I gained more self-confidence and was able to venture out of my comfort zone, which allowed me to join numerous clubs and organizations throughout my high school career. The clubs include the Chess Club for one year, the Environmental Club and AFJROTC Honor Guard team for two years, and Science Olympiad all my four years of high school. The organizations include the National Technical Honor Society for two years and National Honor Society for two years as well and voted Vice President.

As the years go by, the nursing field is expanding. Different types of nurses are being needed for a variety of jobs in the nursing field. This field of work is especially one of the most important because the world will always need nurses. Although the nursing field is very competitive to get into, the need for nurses increases rapidly as time goes on. A CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, is one of the most popular fields being practiced. A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist is a step further than a Registered Nurse. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are advanced nurses that specialize in anesthesia. CRNA’s provide anesthesia care for millions of patients in the United States of America. Anesthesia is a form of medicine that puts a person that is undergoing surgery to sleep while also numbing the pain. There are many steps in the process to becoming a CRNA, it is a very serious field, therefore it requires more experience and training.

I have long heard about how CRNA’s make a lot of money and that I should look into obtaining the education for this career. It wasn’t until now that I realized what a great profession this would be. I may not be able to complete what is required for this career, but maybe I can tell my fellow nursing students what an awesome career this could be.

When I was an adolescent, I considered myself to be a shy, introverted person. Growing up, I had always admired my father’s adaptability through obstacles, but it wasn’t until high school that I discovered I had similar qualities of my own. During my sophomore year, my father was brought into the hospital for having five Abdominal Hernias as well as Hypertension, he was immediately brought into surgery and remained at the hospital for weeks. Each day, I visited my father at the hospital for hours and took care of my father's work at home. I also maintained my performance and reputation at school, balancing my many rigorous courses, as well as my multifarious extracurricular activities.
