Promote child and young person’s development
Unit 4222-344
1) Explain the importance of a person centred and inclusive approach and give examples of how important this is implemented in your work ( L.O2.3)
A person centred approach should involve supporting a young person and focus on their needs and interests rather than what the worker perceives as important.
All activities should be available to everyone, and particular activities are targeted at specific children, you must also consider how an activity can be personalized so that the area of development that needs work can be integrated.
It is believed that a person cantered approach will empower the young people to be in control of their lives. It supports everyone

This can be done through reflective practice
As a worker when you use the technique of reflective practice you have the opportunity to learn from your experience through practice,
What I did (commentary)
Why I did (Analysis)
How I did it and the outcome (self evaluation)
My learning (reflection)
Using this technique we can grow as workers and reflect on our job and role, it is a continuing learning process, within your post, using written reflection this will help us examine our method more intensely and discover why we made a decision and evaluate did it have the best outcome and if not how could a change the method to come up with a better outcome for the young person.
4) Discuss how institutions, agencies and services can affect children and young people’s development? (L.O.4.2)
A multi agency approach can improve the development of the young person; they will work in many ways to achieve an overall positive outcome for the young person.
Below are some agencies that work in this way with young people:
Behavioural support service this team includes specialised teachers, teachers assistants and they will work in partnership with other professionals including educational psychologists, E.W.O.’s , and counsellors. This service supports schools to help them promote positive behaviour, and supply support to
1.1: Explain why working in partnership with others is important for children and young people?
I have evidenced in my preparation and reflections on the importance of direct work being of benefit to the young person (D) and an attempt to make positive changes to their care. I advocated for this
To work in a person centred way, one must develop a clear understanding about the individuals one is supporting. This includes their needs, culture, means of communication, likes and dislikes, their family, colleagues and other professionals’ one may be working with; so one can promote and provide person centred care and support.
Learing new activity can improve own knowledge, skills and understanding, learning activities can improve an individual’s knowledge, skills and understanding by providing us with new ideas , such as something we may have never encountered before. Learning activities also gives the severs users new areas of learning, such as topics or courses that they haven’t encountered before or something that they haven’t previously covered, and courses on things that can make the job easier , or even legally required courses that produce great new areas of learning that allows us to perform our job role , such as manual handling or medication training .it also enables us to apply theories or ideas into practice and discovered if they are successful in doing what we intend them to , which in turn is great in developing ourselves confidence .confidence is often the key in making strides with a difficult individual or even with self improvement and with being confidence it allows us to learn at an easier pace , which also develops our skills into more tangible tools that we understand .reflecting on a situation can improve knowledge , skills and understanding reflecting on a situation can improve on individual greatly by providing personal insight on a subject , which leads to better understanding of a topic , we can reflect on how well we performed and I what way our performance could be improved. By reflecting we can examine how effective our practice is by thinking about people’s reactions to us. About how there may have been other outcomes, and how to reach those outcomes, eliminating the bad paths and highlighting the more positives conclusions in hope of reaching them the next time we are face with the same
2. Explain how and why person-centred values must influence all aspects of social care work (1.1.2)
There are a number of approaches to reflective practice. This is to ensure that learning practices are fully evaluated and not just based on thinking alone. These practices include:
Reflective practice can be done individually or as a group. When done in groups it makes it easier for all members to discuss and solve the problems which they face at work.it also foster unity and collaboration amongst staff.
The final stage of reflection is change, how I see myself, how I see others and my views and opinions. 4.2 – Reflective practice is a good way to analyse yourself as an individual; this can help improve your own working practices. Sometimes when you reflect on yourself it makes you look at your barriers and sometimes peoples struggle can be confidence, dealing with situations and can also help you see where you think you could improve yourself in regards to maybe training etc. I know one of my own barriers is having to address issues with staff when doing supervisions that I know staff will feel annoyed/upset about and sometimes need to seek advice from other managers and once the supervision has taken place I will reflect on the supervision and how it went, the things I said, the response from staff, whether I could of spoken about a situation in a different way/content etc then reflect on this so to use the experience and advice given next time I have the same situation too
The emphasis on reflection throughout the process allows students to evaluate how the experience is benefitting them. Students are able to see how their work is relating to their education and acknowledge what they are accomplishing along the way. In this way, they are able to analyze what has been useful and solidify new hands-on lessons they are learning. Students can bring this information with them to career situations and can end up improving their on-the-job performance. This self-regulation is an important part of the process and sets service-learning apart from the other examples of experiential learning. Students are able to learn about themselves as learners and as
Rogers (1979) stated “Persons in an environment infused with the attitudes, develop more self-understanding, more self-confidence, more ability to choose their behaviors” (p. 106). Cooper and McLeod (2010) agreed with Carl Rogers and emphasized “At the heart of person-centered approach, then, is an understanding that human beings want and need different things, and that an individual’s distinctive wants and needs should be given precedence over any generalized theories…” (p. 214).
If a child has a strong attachment with their key worker, the child will regard this relationship as positive and this will allow the child to develop positively. The child will feel content and use this relationship as an example or template for the future and as a prototype for future relationships. This mental representation is known as the internal working
Reflective practice engages practitioners in a continuous cycle of self-observation and self-evaluation in order to understand their own actions and the reactions they prompt in themselves and in learners (Brookfield, 1995; Thiel, 1999). Reflective practice is considered as an evolving concept which views learning as “an active process of reviewing an experience of practice in order to describe, analyse, evaluate and so inform learning about practice.” (Reid, B 1993 cited in Garfat, T. 2005).
2.1 Explain why reflecting on work activities is an important way to develop knowledge, skills and practice
- The long term result of reflective practice states that there a different ways of the service you provide. You must have self knowledge ad always be mindful to practice all of these things. The more you practice it, the more easy it becomes for you to be more reflective in and on action. The actions are made to recall your previous situations, and how could have done things differently. This is an improved quality of service in all sectors, all staff learn as they go and improve in working practices. The organisation's
Any children that may be on the ‘at risk’ register must be supported by both the school and outside agencies that are appropriate to their needs. It is the professional adults responsibility to ensure that children and young people are aware of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour.
