As of February 2016, Texas unemployment rate had fell 0.1 percentage points to 4.4 percent (1) according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). There were 1,011,882 people unemployed in Texas in Septemeber 2009, but now is 436,912 fewer people unemployed. Although the economy is adding more jobs but the unemployment rate is still a problem in Texas. The reason that Texas had higher unemployment rate than the other state because Texas had the most immigrant. The unemployment rate in Texas of African American is 11.4 percent, which “has been well over twice the white rate for much of the last five years” (Gable 2). Also, Hispanic is 7 percent, which is much more than the white unemployment rate of 4.3 percent. The closing down companies and …show more content…
“Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) was established under the Trade Act of 1974” (5). This is a federal program administed by the U.S Department of Labor. This program helps unemployer able to receive weekly cash benefits, training programs, job search, and travels allowances. Also the Texas Workforce is statewide, which offer career counseling, assistance, job fair, and providing internet access to help the unemployments. If people would go and get help from here, this would give them a change to find more jobs and get the right job for them. Many people still do not know that we have this program that give us this benefits. There are many people unemployed today, I think that it should advertised more to others places in the cities like posting poster or through social media. This ways will help others to know more about the programs and come here when they need help to find a …show more content…
Texas has 4.4 percent unemployment rates, it’s still pretty high compare to New Hampshire and South Dakota. New Hampshire ana South Dakota has a high economic in agricultural and has low state taxes, this helps their unemployment rate stay low. Unemployment came from closing down business, new technology replace human work, and hired cheap labor from other countries. This may cause people to lost their job, unable to meet their financial, and lead to decline standard living. I believe that if Texas would open more companies that produce our own products and lower the state taxes. This ways will help the unemployment rate in Texas to go down and not many people would have to suffer to find a job of their
“Federal government decisions about immigration have always been upheld by the US Supreme Court, which overruled attempts for any state to have a say regarding immigration”(Find-Law 2). Typically the state of Texas laws regarding immigration have to do with employment, education, licensing, and state benefits. Even though federal government has the majority of the say regarding the laws of immigration, they have to be able to know when they need to back off. Every state requires different laws when dealing with immigration laws. Almost every Texas state law that has to do with immigration is challenged either by the Federal government or civil liberties groups. The federal government does not like the idea of having different laws
The population in Texas has changed miraculously over the years. The population in 1850 was almost eighty percent white, about twenty five percent African Americans, and Latinos percentage was a
These expenditures are bad enough, but the situation quickly turns from workable to hopeless when considering the budget cuts that Texas schools must make over the next two years. Sean Cavanagh reveals the state’s pending cuts in the following quote: “State officials, facing a-two-year budget shortfall of anywhere between $15 billion and $27 billion, have proposed deep reductions in school spending” (Cavanagh). If Texas’ school budget gets cut $7.5 to $14 billion dollars a year (the $15 and $27 billion figures are based on two-year budgets), and more than a quarter of illegal immigrants live in Texas while the national calculated cost of educating said illegal students is $44.5 billion dollars, then it appears as if the illegal immigrants cost more than the budget cuts. This means that if illegal aliens were sent back home, Texas would not only be able to forget about budget setbacks, but would also be able to put a few billion dollars back into the struggling education system. Lest one forgets what most of these cuts will be made, Cavanagh estimates that “Texas school systems would be forced to cut between 80,000 and 100,000 jobs if the spending cuts took effect” (Cavanagh). What will happen to the education system if all the teachers are laid off?
In Texas people have to work extremely hard to be entitled to benefits like Welfare, Medicaid, and education since they are very scarce, consequently, the laws are stricter here in Texas than in California regarding who is entitled to receive those benefits. I think that in a way that works better on changing their perspective since in Texas hard work plus education equals benefits and access to resources and in California no job plus no education equals benefits and access to resources. People that come to this state who are used to that modus vivendi either adapt and overcome or go back to their place where they can continue with their life
The Texas population consists of people with a variety of different cultural and racial background. The Texas population seems to be very young with an approximate 27.3 percent of the population being under the age of 18, and about 11.5 percent being over the age of 65 (U.S. Census Bureau, “Texas.”). Factors that increase the Texas population include higher birthrates, lower death rates, as well as immigration from other countries and states. The population is changing from a primarily white population as recorded during the 1990s to a projected primarily Latino population by 2050. However, Latinos were not a considered a separate ethnic group until the 1990s but were counted to the white population which consisted of European whites and the Latinos. The African- American population decreased from over 20 percent during the 1850s to below 20 percent population as of 2015. Asian- Americans are considered the smallest population in Texas at 4.5 percent (The Asian Population,” 2010 Census Briefs). Due to the changing economy and
“Depending on the methods used and what is included, Texas sometimes looks pretty good on the surface, with a lower overall burden than many places”(Perryman 30). In my personal opinion, I think Texas should stick to its present tax system and I believe that other states should adopt what Texas tax system have. “Many states have income taxes, which Texas, of course, doesn’t have”(Perryman 30). Although regressive tax system may seem unfair to some but if looking at the big concept it is still fair because as per my experience Texas wage bracket
Arousing the Civil Rights Act instated in 1964, Judge Lee Rosenthal of Southern District of Texas ruled that Title VII forbids discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, supplementing the traditional instated prohibition of prejudice based on one’s color, race, religion, sex, and national origin in the workplace. Concluding that biased notions towards one’s sexuality and transgender status are forms of discriminant towards one’s sex, Judge Rosenthal decreed the inclusion for protections of non-heteronormative individuals.
The current state of the Texas education policy is very complex and its roots can be traced all the way back to times were there was no equality in the public school system, we can even say it can be traced as far back to the state’s split from Mexico. This was a very problematic situation that began to be reformed heavily starting in 1954. The legislations that passed to resolve this problem have morphed the Texas Public education policy into what it is today.

Education issues in Texas can affect several areas in the Lone Star State. Texas is the leader of all 50 states in teenage birth rates. This number alone can affect high school graduation rates which also trails other states in the rank of 41 of 50 states, and can be partially to blame for Texas’ last place position of the percentage of population over age 25 with high school diplomas. These low graduation rates affect social issues by forcing people into low income jobs, housing which usually leads to high poverty levels. Texas should be worried about the future that this information predicts because if nothing is done to correct the issue it will only get worse. In order to improve this reality Texas needs to be better equipped to help with
Raising minimum wage is not the answer: Texas could only suffer more from this change. Most of the people that will be affected by the change, which is a large percentage of Texas, could be affected in a negative way. Yes, Texas has a problem. No, raising minimum wage is not the answer. Raising minimum wage to fifteen dollars an hour could ultimately increase the poverty gap in Texas and harm businesses that rely on low income
Over the past five years, the federal government has also found it difficult to measure “improvement” in states. Currently, success is based in terms of job entry rate or increases over time in job entry rate, retention rate, and earnings gain. States may use quarterly unemployment insurance wage records, surveys, administrative records, or a combination of those data sources. States are given wide latitude in the sources of information they report. Also, to further distort the findings, there is no baseline data with which to make comparisons (Danziger, 2000).
In states without state income tax, higher sales, property and other assorted taxes can exceed the annual cost of a state income tax. Texas is one of seven states that do not levy an individual income tax. The Tax Foundation, a conservative-leaning research group, ranks Texas ninth-best on its State Business Tax Climate Index, largely because of the state’s lack of an income tax. On three of the foundation’s other major rankings — property taxes, sales taxes and corporate taxes — Texas ranks in the bottom 20 states. Texas does not have a statewide property tax, but local property taxes remain a crucial complaint among businesses and homeowners. (Terrence, 2002) The main benefit is that states with no income tax become a beacon for growth. They 're better at creating jobs and keeping a core of young, educated workers from moving to other states. The issue is undoubtedly controversial. Public opinion usually swings with the size of one 's paycheck and the role people think governments should play in shaping society. Texas has an above-average sales taxes, and Texas also has higher-than-average effective property tax rates. Cutting the income tax will boost take-home pay for everyone. It 'll make the state more attractive than its neighbors, creating jobs, drawing new businesses, and sparking an influx of talented workers.
A study done by the Pew Hispanic Center in 2010 listed more 1.7 million undocumented residents living in the state of Texas. (Tannahill) The population growth rate, whether by legal or illegal means is only one of the issues that has been troubling state law makers and affecting the state’s water plan. The second issue that is affecting Texas’ water is the drought conditions that the state is currently suffering from.
