There have been several wars within countries itself and across the world, but there has only been one World War I or what some people may call The First International War. This war had pitted the central powers of countries against each other causing alliances to form and having an unbelievable amount of manpower need to fight over the years of 1914 to 1918. Most people around my age do not know anything about this war due to the fact that it possibly has not been taught to them. However, the war consumed so many people in it because it was so violent. It damaged those who were involved because there was no sight of the end after the first few months it began. Also, not all of the world’s major powers joined right away. But, with this event happening there were ideas of war from other countries already in mind such as Serbia and Russia who were quick to jump aboard for each other and support the cause for Serbia that would give them an advantage to strike first. With an understanding of what was coming, Austro-Hungary plan to declare war but, had to wait on the Germany to give an assurance of support. In addition, there was the development of Britain prior to war of taking down the communication of their enemies to have an advantage:
British officials developed plans to wage information warfare prior to 1914. Members of the British government charged with contemplating the defense of the empire studied international communications in 1891, in 1898, and again in 1911. They examined how to protect imperial communications and how to destroy enemy submarine telegraph cable connections in wartime. (Winkler 848) With including that information some can say that all war tactics were not about manpower or firepower but, to temporally take away the communication of their enemy especial Germany. Then it happened, on July 28, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia and within a week, Russia, Belgium, France, Great Britain and Serbia had lined up against Austria-Hungary and Germany, and World War I had begun “World War I History”. When war was first started The Battle of Marne was said to be the first turning point for Germany in which France and Britain took to the
World War I was a tragic episode in European history. As with most wars, there were some causes that led to this event. A few of these causes were militarism, alliances, and imperialism. The first spark of the war was on June 28, 1914 when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated by a Serbian nationalist group called the Black Hand. The Austrian leaders demanded an apology from Serbia, they got upset and Russia said they would help Serbia. With no apology and the threat of Russia, on June 28 Austria-Hungary declared war on them; Russia in return declared war on Austria-Hungary. Germany declared war on Russia, France on both Germany and Austria-Hungary. Finally Britain had joined France and Russia, then all of Europe was at war.
World War I was a great loss both physically and emotionally. It was a conflict between the Allies and the Central Powers from 1914 to 1918. More than 15 million people were killed in battled, making it one of the most deadly conflicts in history. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria- Hungary was seen as the trigger of the war. The war was described as a world war, a total war, and a modern war. A world war because it involved the whole world. A total war because people used maximum resources for the purpose of the war. A modern war because the people used technological and industrial mobilization.
World War 1 was a war that lasted from 1914 to 1918 and was a war that involved and was molded around alliances. This war in Europe would eventually turn into a global war that would involve 32 countries. United States involvement was crucial to the outcome of World War 1 and made a serious impact in our country. World War I had occured between July 1914 and November 11,1918. The war had been caused by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. When a Serbian terrorist had drove by shooting him, and his family. Then when Austria-Hungary demanded reparations (amends), they declared war against Serbia. Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism and Nationalism had lead to the cause of World War I.
The First World War of 1914-1918, also known as the Great War, was the first total war in history. What began as a European struggle over the balance of power between the triple alliance of France, Britain and Russia on one side and the central powers of Germany and Austria-Hungary on the other, soon became a global conflict that involved the imperial powers of Europe, their colonies and lands such as the Ottoman Empire, Japan and the United States. Although the sheer number of countries involved in the conflict is enough to describe the First World War as a mass war, what makes it total is the fact that it was waged not only against the enemy’s armies, but also against the civilian
World War 1 was one of the bloodiest wars that the world ever seen. World War 1 was a war fought in Europe, between Germany, Russia, France, Great Britain, the U.S. and many others. At first, Europeans wanted a balanced power, but then alliance started to form. An assassination happened and soon Europe was at war. However, there are numerous causes of World War that are not commonly known which include nationalism, militarism, and alliance.
It is said to be one of the worst wars of all time. It lead to thousands of casualties and it bankrupted many economies. World War 1 was truly devastating fight between the Allied powers and the Central powers. The allies consisted of France, Britain, and Russia and on the other hand the central powers consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. This war was getting very tense and the Germans had provoked the United States in many ways which gave the United States no other choice but joining the war. The United States joined the war on the allies’ side in 1917 after Russia left because of the U-boat attacks, money loans, and the Zimmermann note.
World War 1 was an ongoing fight that lasted from 1914 to 1918. This Total Waring state was molded around alliances. The war in Europe would evolve into a global conflict that would involve 32 countries. The United States involvement was critical to the end result of World War 1. Both positive and negative effects were felt by the citizens in the Triple Entente countries during and even long after the war.
Britain and France also had agreed to come to the assistance of Belgium if it was ever invaded. When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia got involved to defend Serbia, while Germany entered the war to fight alongside Austria-Hungary. France, being an ally of Russia, was also pulled into the war. In order to attack France, Germany had entered Belgium which triggered Britain’s response, thus creating a domino effect. The several alliances that existed during this time, brought many other countries into the conflict.
More than 100 years ago Canada had been a small child, progressing through life trying to find its place in this vast world. During the time periods of 1914-1945, 1950-1970, and 1971- 1990, there have been many factors that have helped induce its growth including: recognition due to military achievements, its international relationship with the United States, and uniting as one country. Through these times of hardship and glory Canada has succeeded in finding its autonomous identity in the world, as a “middle power”.
Nestled in New Haven, Connecticut, Yale University is a small, wealthy and prestigious school. During this time, the early 1910s, World War I is starting and the United States does not want to get involved unless necessary. Air superiority has not become a major military factor. That is until a group of young prominent men known as the “Millionaires Unit” at Yale start a flying club due to their interest in aviation and patriotism to the United States.
World War I is considered the Great war, “the war to end all wars.” Under President Woodrow Wilson, America entered a war that was the first of its kind, involving several major powers worldwide. Starting in Europe, World War I would lead to changes that still affect the world today. The Great War also produced questions on morals, loyalty, and nationalism that are still relevant today.
5. There are many events that led up to World War I, but the most significant one was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife in 1914. After the assassination, the word spread and Serbia was in deep waters with Austria-Hungary since the assassins were of Serbian descent. Austria-Hungary took awhile to respond to the assassination, but eventually “on July 28, they declared war on Serbia, even though the army would not be ready to attack until mid-August” (836). The Triple Entente, which included Russia, Britain, and France would become enemies with Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy. With Germany pressuring Austria-Hungary into war, Europe would never be the same again. Diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions and differences between Austria-Hungary and Serbia were rejected and war had begun, which pleased a war-hungry Germany who was looking for anything to begin a fight with its European neighbors.
