United Way : Recruiting Volunteers One of the most important things you can do to ensure the success of our organization is to recruit the best people you can find to volunteer. This doesn’t mean they have to have the most impressive resume. Nor do you have to like them or share common interest. They are the people who will always give 100 percent because not only do they care about what they are doing, but they also know that even if the project at hand does not benefit them, it is still benefitting someone, somewhere. You might ask, why do we, as employees, need to know how to recruit volunteers, how is this task important to the United Way, and when should we recruit volunteers. Or more importantly, what are the steps involved in this process, …show more content…
By recruiting volunteers, or even more volunteers, we as employees are building the organization, and that is important to us. By building the organization not only will more work be able to get done, but it will get done in a timely manner and may even possibly lessen the workload of employees. Recruiting volunteers will also give the organization a more diverse membership and with a larger membership, we will be able to increase awareness all while working as one to achieve a shared goal. With that being said, volunteers can be recruited at any time, and anytime is a good time to recruit volunteers. Being more specific, you can recruit volunteers at current events, for future events, if we are expanding our workload, or even if we are short on staff. Volunteers can be recruited any given …show more content…
By doing this, you will then be aware of who is available to volunteer. This also comes in handy when targeting a specific population. For example, here at United Way we are part of a mentoring program for children. By determining how the community is made up, you can schedule visits with high schools and/or colleges in the community to recruit these said mentors for our younger population. While learning who already volunteers you will also need to determine when they volunteer, where they volunteer at, and why they volunteer. You may ask questions to find out if they volunteer all the time, as a hobby, or do they only volunteer for specific programs/events. Are there specific organizations they volunteer for, and if so, why. If not, have they ever volunteered for United Way and would they be interested in continuing to do so. At this time you would then pass along your knowledge of the organization as well as whatever you have handy that can direct them towards more knowledge and upcoming programs/events such as a brochure or the website address. This research also comes into play when talking to people who have never volunteered and are interested in doing so. You may approach these peoples a little different than someone who already has their foot in the door so to speak. You will first get to know their demographics and their hobbies. Certain demographics such as age, and ethnicity,
The first reason you should volunteer is that it betters the community around you. You can live in the most beautiful city in the world but would not want to live there it was dirty because of a lack of people caring about littering or if there were large amounts of homeless and hungry people because no one volunteered to help build a house or volunteer at a soup kitchen
Volunteers are always needed from the very first sign up day to the very last delivery, and many weeks in between. During the first couple of weeks, The women volunteer group helps
Volunteering is often seen as free labor. However, there is a significant cost associated with the recruitment, training, and maintenance of the volunteer force. A full-time staff to oversee the volunteer program is necessary as well to ensure volunteers are being used effectively. The recruitment process varies from advertising to speaking at schools to
In todays society there are many things that people can be involved in. One is volunteering. Local organizations around my community are always looking for people to come in and help volunteer with the young and the old. A local Boys and Girls club is one that I volunteer at when ever I get a chance to. Volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club has allowed me to help the boys and girls to have a safe place to come learn and grow while having fun. It is a place where young people can come and know someone cares about them. Volunteering makes a difference in the lives of boys and girls in the community. (Volunteer1) Volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club has taught me more about the organization, what a volunteer does, and what I can learn from volunteering.
Then, she can create a position for a volunteer. Not all volunteer positions would work. Sometimes she has to work with volunteers and staffs to figure out the problems and make any adjustment as needed. When I ask Helen about how she motivates volunteers, she mentioned that volunteers have their own motivation to do the volunteer work. The way she gets volunteers to be more engaged is keeping in touch with volunteers, ensuring that supervisors engage with volunteers, recognizing volunteers and having events to show her appreciation to volunteers. She also provides support to volunteer to help them find a right job or make any changes to ensure that they feel comfortable to do their

For most, lending a hand to someone only really counts for family members and friends. A person never really thinks about all the outside people in the world that need a little help. When the holiday season comes around people may not have the money to feed their families or buy Christmas gifts for their kids. Many agencies broadcast on television how to help these families, not just in your state but around the world. Like most, I for one have never volunteered, but I have donated. For a person that is looking to start volunteering, a little research should be done on different places. I for one like The Salvation Army as an organization. I always see them around the holiday season outside with the bells and red pails. Before volunteering
Volunteering means using my time to help people who can’t help themselves or is in need of help. Everytime I finish volunteering, I feel good about myself because I know I’ve just helped the community in some sort of way. A little bit of my time can mean the world to someone. I know if I continue to volunteer, I can make a greater difference in the community. I can contribute to Methodist Hospital’s mission by helping patients with whatever they need, being extremely honest and trustworthy, coming up with innovative ways to deliver service to everyone, and being open about communicating.
Since my arrival in the United States I have never been to volunteer organization before, but all it changes when I come to the Tri City Volunteers. Tri-City Volunteer “is a non-profit organization that provides food assistance and low-cost clothing and household items to the residents of Alameda County.” Our group, The Ace, choose Tri-City Volunteer based on the recommendation of my team member. It is located on Fremont, 18.3 mile away from my home. I had to took an Uber there because I do not have a car. I arrived early in the morning to pack all the ingredients that were given by the donors. Volunteers are people who came there regularly. Most the people there had 1.000 hours of volunteers. Moreover, there two special groups which always there to help volunteer which are the autism group and the deaf group. Even Though, they were not paid, but they still love to help other people. This is the sensation that people who volunteer looking
The first step is to fill out a volunteer profile and uploading a CV/Resume to be considered. Once in the database, they will send out a volunteer invitation to those who qualify and show an interest in that particular group. There are eight different volunteer groups – Advisory teams, certification corporation groups, program planning committees, publishing groups, review panels, task forces, think tanks, and work groups. I would be most interested in think tanks as they identify and evaluate global trends and issue and then make new suggestions on how to combat those issues.
Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. The Great Awakening was a period in which
In my five years of active volunteer work with multiple non-profit organizations, I have seen firsthand the lack of attendance of my peers in times of great community need and support from its members. Although it has become more complicated to find time to give back to the community, with a full-time school and work schedule, there is always spare time to give back. The rapidly growing demand for volunteers in communities all across America is increasing and it is everyone’s duty, especially college students, to pay their dues to the
