For any writer there are times that we can 't choose the right word at times and at the last second we choose a word that seems right but it 's in the wrong context. As a result, it leaves a wrong meaning to what we are writing. Well the problem is the usage of the "exact words" at the right time. The usage of the exact words helps the writer choose from a variety of words that help clarify or state the writer 's true meaning of his or her writing. Exact words come in many different forms to help the writer from narrowing down specific words to the careful usage of figure of speech. Writers can use exact words to better state their reasoning of what they are writing. However, there are some writers that don 't know the application of exact words and the reason to use it. So to narrow it down to people, they need to know what is an exactly is a exact word, the uses of it and the misusage of it.
First, for people to know what is an exact word is they need to know the definition of it to make sense. Diana Hacker and Nancy Sommers define it as" Dictionary meaning,words have connotations, emotional coloring that affect how reader respond to them." (171). Meaning that it 's way for writers to find alternate word choice, so the reader can reflect on them. As well as leaving the reader to emotionally attached to the text so they can relate to the writer. Exact words also have another use in writing. They can be used to narrow down prefer specific, concrete nouns to state the
Why do the words that authors use in their writing help set the overall atmosphere of the story? In the story, "What Do Fish Have to Do With Anything," a young boy named Willie and his cautious mother, who were abandoned by their father, come across a beggar, and Willie grows curious of his character, thus leading him to question him. After a series of encounters, Willie learns that the homeless man was not what he seemed, but a man of wisdom. In the story, “Dark They Were, And Golden Eyed” by Ray Bradbury, a party of humans arrive in Mars and try to build their new lives there after an apocalypse on the Earth. One of the humans, Harry Bittering, is skeptical about Mars and how living there may not be the best idea. In both “Dark They Were,
But far too often the explicit nature of the work is the selling point. ”(Hemingway). This is sometimes true in many cases. But an example Hemingway used was the book titled TTYL by Lauren Myracle. He said it provided no real form of the English language, but instead presents the story in texting language.
Words are all around us. Words define the way we describe the way we articulate, one such example being this very paper, the way we interact with others, and most importantly, the way we feel or think. Adjectives: the words that give our world emotional meaning beyond the literal definition; that is connotation. Connotation is most evident in words to which we associate our most extreme emotions. Whether it is witnessing the greatest of fireworks, an elaborate collection of lights and sounds, or seeing truckfuls of babies being dumped into a blistering hot fire, the word we would use to describe these two events, fire, will forever be emotionally seen differently by whomever witnesses it. A word can develop in meaning, once meaning one thing to then mean something completely different. In fact, In Elie Wiesel’s “Night”, Elie’s definition of the word ‘fire’ changes from that of a danger to one’s self to that of destruction and revenge.
Some authors have a limited vocabulary due to upbringing; this alters how people view the message intended. When speaking about her mother, Tan states, “Some of my friend tell me they understand 50 percent of what my mother says.” (Tan, 1990, Para. 7) There are moments in communication where meaning can falter because of a lack of words to utilize. Tan also makes this point when transcribing words
Powerful words can have powerful effects upon readers and listeners. Words can have a denotative- and a connotative definition;
Author’s intent is severely guided by the reader, whether a word, sentence or an action is as perceived will almost never be considered factual.
One if it is she used to many bombastic words in her writing. This might cause the reader to be confused with what they are reading. For example the usage of the word “existential crisis” (Amee LaTour 2014) (p.14) (line 108). This problem also continued when she used the word “inadequate” (Amee LaTour 2014) (p.12) (line 95).
Figurative language usage in almost all writing makes it easy for the reader to understand the concept faster. However, in his essay, he didn't use figurative languages such as simile which is why it's still hard to get his clear thoughts easily. Therefore, I suggest him to use more metaphorical language to help out the readers with their comprehension.
Everybody interprets all words differently whether they know it or not. For example, the word evil has multiple definitions but if a word is special to a specific person, then those dictionary definitions will not apply to them. The most common definition for the word evil is being profoundly immoral and malevolent. However, that is not exactly what evil means to me personally. Overall, the word can have various different definitions or meanings, it has a certain meaning to me, and it can affect people’s everyday lives.
How an author uses language in a story is more important than you would think. Edgar Allen Poe shows a great example of this in his story The Fall of the House of Usher. His use of diction, the words he uses to paint a picture in the minds of his readers, the detail included and his use of figurative language all contribute to making a good first impression to characterize the rest of the story. In this story, Poe uses very specific detail which directly relates to how well his writing provokes an image in the reader’s mind.
The focus of this excerpt is clutter, or as Zinsser defines it, the laborious phrase that has pushed out the short word that means the same thing (402)." Zinsser argues that every word written should serve a purpose rather than be used solely for show or decoration. A message too often gets lost behind wordiness, in fact, sometimes that's the purpose of it. That's why the underlying message of this piece is the encouragement of transparency in one's word choice as opposed to using clutter as if to disguise blatant facts.
In novels, authors write works of literature for all their readers. Authors use literary elements to create a meanings for us to uncover. Sometimes, these meanings may not be too explicit. As we understand the tools that authors use, we can identify the meaning behind their work. One example can be found in the novel Speak by Laurie Halse- Anderson. In this novel, most words are used to enhance the meaning behind the title.
Words are a correlation of letters that can hold immense power, Gloria Naylor explains this in her essay “The Meaning of a Word.” Today’s society pushes the importance of kind words and constantly highlights how one word can brighten a person’s day. Yet people are hardly taught the blunt fact that one word can also devastate a person’s day into self-loathing.
Another concept is word use, specifically choosing more powerful words (Bovee & Thill, 2016). Understanding the denotative/literal meaning or the connotative/feelings associated with words used (Bovee & Thill, 2016 p. 130). When writing, we must understand how the words could have different meaning to the audience then what we
I choses these words from “unbreakable by because in order to understand the book you should know them. I think that the author uses difficult words to better explain the story.
