Beatrice was shaping off to her friends to change her image and to appear as she was a dare devilish person. She did this to change her image from the shy girl to more of a daredevil. In the movie Divergent, there are three major themes that really stick out to people. Those three themes are; identity, social conformity, and love. There are some detailed reasons as to why these three specific things are the themes. Tris, the main character, goes through quite the hard times throughout both the book and the movie and she learns quite a lot about all three of these things, where as it could teach these things to the audience too, if you put yourself in Tris's place or compared it to your own life.
The main character in the book Divergent is a girl named Beatrice. Beatrice is developed throughout the book by having to do things that push her out of her comfort zone. Beatrice was born in the faction of Abnegation, where everything is simple and alike. Abnegation values selflessness, but Beatrice doesn’t feel like she is selfless. She decides to change to the faction of Dauntless, who values courage. Beatrice has to do things like jump off trains, and fight people to show she is courageous. She decides to start going byTris, because Beatrice won’t fit in with the dauntless. When Beatrice makes the decision to be a dauntless she says “My fathers eyes burn into mine with a look of accusation’. This is because it was selfish of
The victims of discrimination are sometimes portrayed as the evil ones. In Divergent by Veronica Roth, a girl named Tris has the power of being divergent which allows her to resist serums and certain things that make her think differently, because of these things she is often discriminated against by groups of people and try to kill her. In a similar text, Malcolm X By Any Means Necessary by Walter Dean Myers a young African American man is trying to live the American dream but realizes he can’t because of the racism and discrimination he is undergoing and decides to live a life of religion. In Divergent Veronica Roth suggests that people who are discriminated against have more power than those discriminating and should
Insurgent is the second book in the divergent. There are 4 books. Divergent insurgent Allegiant and four. For Divergent Insurgent and Allegiant, there are all movies but it’s only Allegiant part 1. There is no movie for four yet. The story is Tris is in Abnegation then at the choosing ceremony she chooses Dauntless. At Dauntless she meets a guy name four. She is divergent. Tris and Four grow closer together. Janine injects everyone with a control serum. But did doesn't work for divergent. And they go and kill Abnegation. Because Erudite wants to be the governing faction. Also for information. They Tris and Four are known as divergence. They go to Dauntless headquarters and shut down the serum. I read insurgent and it is my favorite out of
The choices they made affected their personal life directly, either positively or negatively or maybe both. For George, in Shooting an Elephant, his reputation among the Burmese and his fellow officers depended on the choice he made. He had to make the choice that he felt was right so that he wouldn’t stake his control and power. Identically, for Beatrice, in Divergent, she had to make a choice that could risk all that belonged to her personally: her childhood, her friends and even her family. The connection between the choice to the character’s personal life can be evident in both the
This is no exception in the book Divergent. The society in Divergent split into five distinct factions known as Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. From this information, one can infer the worldview depicted in this novel is that one choice defines who a person is forever. This worldview is seen all throughout the book, due to the author’s focus on choice. The characters are forced to choose which faction they wish to reside in, thus possibly leaving all that they previously had known and grown accustomed to. This reality is brutally true for Beatrice Prior as she is forced to come to grips with making this type of decision. Upon making her ultimate decision to join Dauntless she states, “This is what I chose. This is it.” Numerous other decisions are put in front of Beatrice Prior throughout the plot, therefore proving the worldview in Divergent to be rooted in decisions and choices. These choices, in turn, have a long-term effect on someone’s life. The worldview in any novel is brought to life by the author. Taking a look at the author of Divergent, known as Veronica Roth, one immediately comes to the conclusion that she is a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. She freely professes her faith and love for the Lord; therefore, one can see the intricate parallels from Divergent to the Scriptures. For example, the concept of one choice defining the rest of a person’s life or destiny is similar to the monumental choice made in the Garden of Eden, which
The quest consists of five things: (a) a quester, (b) a place to go, (c) a stated reason to go there, (d) challenges and trials en route, and (d) a real reason to go there. In Veronica Roth’s Divergent, Beatrice “Tris” Prior’s post-apocalyptic homeland of Chicago, the society is broken up into five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Erudite (the intelligent), Dauntless (the brave), Candor (the honest), and Amity (the peaceful). Every year on an arranged date, all sixteen year olds must choose the faction they will serve in for the rest of their lives. The Prior family is well known in the Abnegation faction, let alone the society. The last thing she wants to do is leave her family, but she also wants to follow who she really is. Before the date, the teens are given a psychological test to help them with their decision.
Beatrice finding out she was Divergent really made her realize she was different. It also teaches Beatrice that she can’t tell anyone or she will be good as dead. At the choosing ceremony Beatrice chose Dauntless. Beatrice then realizes she will have to learn to become braver, stronger, and more selfless.
Opinion: Of all of the characters in Divergent By: Veronica Roth the character Beatrice “Tris” Prior, is the bravest person in the book. Reason #1: Beatrice is very brave for switching factions, from Abnegation to Dauntless. Proof #1: During initiation Beatrice was bullied by some of the other initiates because she was from Abnegation.
Insurgent built upon the book Divergent. In Insurgent, Tris and Four are in hiding because they are on the run from Erudite and Dauntless, the two rogue factions. They are on the run because they, in Divergent, stopped a mass murder of a faction, Abnegation. They, in turn, are in hiding from the rogue factions and are forced to act again when the rogue factions take over the
Prediction: If Tobias became a Dauntless leader, he would be controlled by Jeanine Matthews. Tobias left Abnegation so he can make his own decisions, and being a Dauntless leader would not give him the freedom he desires.
In this fictional world, the Divergent book and the movie are very similar, yet different in some aspects. Divergent takes place in a society that is split into five factions, all with different values. The five factions are the Erudite, who value intelligence, the Abnegation, who value selflessness, the Dauntless, who value bravery, the Amity, who value peace, and the Candor, who value honesty. At the age of sixteen, you will be forced to decide the rest of your life at the Choosing Ceremony. There, you may stay with the faction you were born into, or transfer. The main character, Beatrice, or Tris, was a faction transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, and was looked down upon by her father and old faction for doing so. The book and movie share
"We believe in ordinary acts of bravery, in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another." - Divergent by Veronica Roth Not all heroes wear capes, but heroes are those who speak their mind, who stand up for what they believe is right even if they stand alone, who always speak their mind even if their voice is trembling. I believe in loyalty and trust and I believe that loyalty is based on trust. I believe that standing up for ourselves is important and that standing up for others is more important.
