Vice Presidential Debate
I was not able to watch the debate the day it took place, however I did watch the entire debate online a few days after. It has been extremely difficult for me to watch this debate as well as the presidential debates focusing solely on their speaking styles, without paying much attention to the content that they are speaking about. It was also difficult to understand both candidates in some places, for they continuously talked over one another! Kain seemed to have more thought out answers. At one point Pence even asked, " Did you work on that one a long time? Cause that had a lot of really creative lines in it." They both used lots of personal examples throughout the debate. For
Another four years another presidential debate. Before I go on to the current debates let me state a few facts about past ones. The Lincoln and Douglas debate was in important because it started Lincoln presidential career. The Debates lasted from August 21 -- October 15. There where seven of them, with two days to two weeks in between. Each debate lasted three hours; first candidate spoke for one hour; the second for one and a half hours; the first replying for a half hour. Candidates alternated going first. The topics involved where primarily slavery and the Union. Other important debates were the '48 and '57. They were the only debates before 1960; there were no presidential debates between 1960 and 1976. In
The Republicans and Democrats would have you believe that America is perfect besides the other party. There's no doubt that there are some serious issues with the politics of this country, but one of my significant concerns isn’t the feud between the conservatives and the liberals, it's the Electoral College. In my opinion, the reason that politics is so utterly bungled is the inherent issues that stem from the election process. The Electoral College devalues votes and the voices of the individuals so in my opinion, removing it should be a bipartisan issue.
In the wake of the death of Antonin Scalia, the Supreme Court Justice , Republican candidates had a debate and met in South Carolina for the 9th GOP debate. This debate mainly discussed what each candidate would do if they were to become president. During these debates, the candidates are given a chance to deliver their messages , and to help voters determine which candidate will be best as president. In the republican debate, each candidate was asked a question which they was expected to answer but somehow didn't appear to do so. While watching, I came to conclusion that some of the arguments were successful and others unsuccessful. In the first section of the debate when candidates Ben Carson, Donald
In my opinion, on the first 2016 Presidential Debate, Donald Trump and Secretary Hillary Clinton did have a fair debate about topics of the host’s, Lester Holt, choice. Hillary Clinton did, in fact, win. I think this for many reason but some in particular stand out to me.
In the beginning of the debate, both Trump and Clinton had a fierce attitude. The candidates had brought up many past events. They debated against each other`s plans to create a better country. One of the main
First and foremost...let me beg your pardon for the double negative in my title. It was a poor excuse for an attention getter. However, I must say, if it did succeed in getting your attention...yea for me! The reason I resorted to such
What topics are labeled important enough to be talked about during presidential debates? Topics such as terrorism and national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare all managed to be the center of attention during all debates. What topics were almost entirely ignored? Topics such as gun policy; social issues like LGBT rights and abortion; and the environment and climate change were put to the side to instead talk about Hillary Clinton’s email scandal or the sexual assault charges brought up against Donald Trump. While terrorism and national security; the economy; jobs and employment; and the Affordable Care Act and Healthcare are all very important topics, but one topic that was ignored and should have been at the forefront of the debate was climate change.
The liberals of the United States of America, and others who disapprove President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are torn. Liberals would like for Donald Trump to be impeached from the presidency. But, if Trump is impeached, the vice president, Pence, would have to take over as the new president. This stirs up a lot of confused feelings; leaving liberals on the fence.
No campaign in the history of presidential runnings has ever been the same. Yes, past campaigns and presidential candidates have shown their similarities between each other, but none has had the same events occur. The major variable is time. Society has shown a history of changing ideals and appeals. Each year, slowly but surely, society’s view is shaping and shifting. The presidential candidates know this factor and have to change with society to gain their social appeal. Within this time shift, we can analyze past polls and outcomes of primaries that have shown to be somewhat misleading.
The debate was deluged with policies and issues. Even though candidates probably had a plethora of issues they wanted to address, the time limit, and the debate format stood like a glorified barrier. The issue was raised on how to create jobs to minimize the unemployment rate. The other issue raised was regarding taxes. Issue was raised regarding which tax policy would turn out to be most cohesive and profitable with time. Issue about current race relation was raised along with the ways to improve it. Another issue that was raised was regarding national security. Personally, I think that issue regarding tax stood out in the debate.
The election of 1988 pitted Vice President George H.W Bush against Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis. Coming off the back of President Reagan’s second term, Vice President Bush needed to build on the sense of optimism that Reagan had instilled and make a case for continuity. Governor Dukakis on the other hand had to try and paint himself as good alternative to some of the pitfalls of President Reagan’s later years. Coming off an economic collapse, insider trading scandals, and a growing drug problem, there was no shortage of material for ad agencies to work with. The ads from 1988 paint a picture of an overall negative race, even when compared to 2016’s charged election, while also producing some of the most infamous and effective ads in campaign history.
The democratic debate stage almost bursted into flames when one of the hosts questioned Bernie Sanders’ eligibility to be called a democratic representative. He recounted the facts that Sanders had been the “longest serving independent in the United States Congress,” and only joined the Democratic Party recently. Sanders replied with an enumeration of his previous projects with the party during the time. He bravely confirmed those facts, and proved that even though he officially did not work with his current political party for a long amount, he still supported their ideas and projects. To support his claim, Sanders reminded that audience that he “caucused with the House [of Representatives] for 19 years,... caucused with the Senate for 9 years,... and was elected by the democrats to be the chair of the Veterans committee three years ago.” Sanders then mentioned the 50-states party strategy that revived Hillary Clinton’s voice against her rival. She acknowledged that it was former the Vermont Governor's idea, Howard Dean, to have the 50-states party system. Her turn to count the people supporting her presidency followed the small
The Vice Presidential Debate took place at Longwood University located in Farmville, Virginia moderated by, Elaine Quijano. Senator Tim Kaine and Governor Mike Pence both sat at a table with Quijano. The debate consisted of 9 segments, each 10 minutes in length and 2 minutes for each candidate to respond. Topics discussed in this debate include questions about Donald Trump's temperament, the economy, Social Security, police and race relations, nuclear weapons, abortion and religious faith. It was very surprising to see a young moderator, Elaine Quijano. She was the first digital network anchor selected to be a moderator. She did a good job at being a moderator, not to mention having to be the first Asian American moderator. When the debate was firing up with interruptions, she stepped in and said “Gentlemen, the people at home cannot understand either one of you when you talk over each other.” She was well paced, had asked essential, substantive questions.
It seems that the founding fathers were a lot smarter than we give them credit for in 1792. This was the year the College, as we call it today the Electoral College, ratified in the Constitution of the United States of America by the colonies. This would also start the longest continuous debate our nation has ever experienced over a single political issue that continues even today. This debate came center stage during the election of 1800 when Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr (Jefferson’s Vice President running mate)received the same number of electoral votes for President even though they were running mates (http://www.ushistory.org/us/20a.asp). This tie would lead to changes to the Electoral College of their day and the foundation for the 12th Amendment to our Constitution.
This debate between Kaine and Pence was interesting because of many reasons. Originally, I thought Kaine would win this debate because in the presidential debate, I believe Hillary won against Trump. Kaine uses a good technique against Pence by focusing on certain issues rather than a variety of issues. An example would be describing how bad Trump is. Pence is a strong person because he was able to keep his emotions under control even when he was being criticized heavily by Kaine. Regarding Trump’s tax returns questions, I believe that Pence’s response did not answer the question completely. I believe that Pence should have better prepared himself because I am guessing he knew that Trump’s tax returns would have been included in the debate.
