I have structured this paper with a timeline of volunteer activities, how they relate to my career, what my goals are, and how I plan to remain involved in my community.
During my junior and senior years in high school, I volunteered every Friday night to walk the streets of Pottstown PA and help the police clean up the crime. If you are not familiar with the Guardian Angels, we act as the eyes and ears of the police. We carry no weapons and only use force if someone’s life is threatened. Our normal route patrolled the community around Pottstown Athletic club and mostly entailed calling the police about any drug deals we see, standing outside known drug dealers apartments so they don’t get business, and patrolling the streets so prostitutes

I assisted in classes when I could and I helped out with networking. I started the communications for 2-certification courses and a partnership with the local community college. I started my own Cub scout pack last year of which I ran for a year before having to step down from it and the athletic club to spend more time as my studies got more intense. Currently, I have stayed with my Boy Scout Troop, became an adult leader and teach Boy Scouts outdoor and life skills and act as a merit badge counselor for Personal Fitness, Athletics, and …show more content…
I would like to get involved with the firefighters, or police and do consultations and possibly design exercise programs for them. The police and firefighters as a whole are not provided with quality exercise programs which are enjoyable to do and create benefits that are directed at their respective jobs. I feel because I’ve been exposed to police culture because of my brother who is an officer and on the SWAT team, and I have a few friends that are firefighters. I’m in a unique position to be both be able to understand what current exercise theory says, what the police and firefighters need, and have the ability to provide our police and firefighters with exercise programs they will actually follow and
During my volunteer hours I learned a lot about my own community I that I have not been able to experience. For example I have never been able to participate in so many writing programs and workshops in my local high school, this is because I also did not attend my own local high school because my mother did not allow me to instead, she asked me to attend a charter school. By partnering with LA826, I was able to attend different writing workshops where I would help different high school student write essay, cover letters, and personal statements. Furthermore I believed that most of my activities consisted of just being able to listen to some of the students.
Volunteering gives me the opportunity to be there for someone and to change people’s lives including my own. Volunteering to me is a way of giving back to the community or someone in need of help. For as long as I can remember I have always had the passion for helping people especially children and the aged, thus my interest in nursing. Any opportunity to perform an act of kindness made me happy that at least I could be of help to someone. From taking care of my siblings and cousins, babysitting, helping friends and among others. Of the many goals I have in life the most important one is to provide help to those in need through my commitment of service. I volunteered at a daycare school closer to me and
When I'm not in school I have Since my freshman year I have been doing marching band. As a sophomore I took my position as a upperclassman to help my freshman to the best of my ability. I help the freshman in my section to read drill, marching techniques, and how to play the music. While doing that I also do activities with my Girl Scout troop. I have been in Girl Scouts since the 4th grade and that has been a wonderful learning experience. From learning the ways of sales, to taking educational trips around the state i have grown in skill and character. Also for the last 3 years I have been the 2nd in highest cookie sales so that has been been very beneficial. Then during the summer I volunteer at the Durham Art's Council's Summer Camp as
Thesis Statement: Volunteering in your local community will help those around you and help you feel like you have contributed something positive and it is easier than most people think.
Officers also have an important role in outreach programs to help prevent crime. For example, officers may go to schools to speak about how to avoid drug use and staying out of gangs. They also administer volunteer programs to get juveniles involved in their communities. The International Association of Police Chiefs notes that these programs can include recreational activities, internships and law enforcement scout explorer groups.
Often as we grow our schedules we forget to acknowledge the fact that our name does not read “volunteer needed”. It has been said, and I sincerely repeat, that if we fail ever say no than our yes loses its value. A resounding alarm greeted an early six o'clock sunlight that signaled the end of a sleep cycle. Pulling on clothes and a quick flash of vision directed at a schedule summed up the morning other than the arrival to a National Honor Society meeting, which would be followed by a Leo club lunch meeting and trailed by a Business Professionals of America after school practice. A typical day of a Stephenson High School senior displays in this way. They are involved in many activities, both school oriented and community involved. This leaves little to no time to develop personality traits other than ones that involve servitude. While it is important to be involved in the community, overinvolvement decreases the quality of the rendered services and overwhelms the individual performing these service
The main issues police face on a day to day basis is the risk of death or injury do to the violence and nature of the job along with the danger of the job they make the city safer for family and friends. From a legal standpoint they have chosen this career path but they must take precautions to keep themselves safe during a pursuit. The only real suggest I can give is that they should stay in shape and take
Some that I will mention are Santa Cops, Community Watch, Lunch Buddy and National Night Out. All of these programs are designed to bridge the gap between the community and the police. Let’s start by looking at each program.
The COP pilot program’s mission is to form an increased partnership with police and communities. Traditional policing alone is insufficient to deal with the many problems plaguing communities. Community residents as well can’t solely manage crime and disorder problems without police help.
The most promising activities that I found to be most beneficial to our community would be to establish a foot patrol program and police-school liaison programs. The foot patrol program has been implemented in several states and proven to be success. This will help our officers get to know the residents that they serve and begin to build a trust between the two. In Flint, Michigan the program showed to reduce fear of crime and create an optimistic awareness about the neighborhood and the officers patrolling (Miller, Hess, & Orthmann, 2014). While this can create a positive influence on the residents of the community and help reduce crime in neighborhoods, there could be an influx of crime with commercial properties like in Boston, Massachusetts

I am greatly interested in this unique assignment because it is tasked with a focus on enhancing officer and public safety and reducing the incidence of crime.
Volunteer involvement is very crucial for long-term sustenance of any movement. Official recognition of citizen efforts is also vital. AMC has recognized this role and a proper certification process are also established.
Police work is really unique in the fact that police officers help people every day, even when the officer or the public doesn’t realize that this is happening. This can be achieved in a variety of ways including prevention of victimization, or even helping criminals make better choices.
People volunteer for a wide variety of reasons. They often join a volunteering organization because it meets their needs. Those needs may be for career, for friendship, for belonging or other spiritual needs. Rochester (2010) concludes different types of volunteer’s motivation. Through volunteering activity, from external
