Volunteering can help not only the person receiving the service, but also the individual doing the volunteering, three benefits a person can gain from volunteering are; attaining leadership skills, earning an academic credit, or to build a resume. Volunteering can be done in some many ways; from helping the elderly, to starting a club that gives back to the community. Volunteering does not give a person materialistic rewards, such as money, but it can give someone knowledge and time spent with people who can teach someone about life. Ultimately, volunteering is when someone does another person a service without any form of payment.

Anyone can be a volunteer, and through volunteering a person can gain leadership skills that might one day help them further a career, and gain relationships that will last a lifetime.
Most students are required to do a certain amount of community service or volunteer hours. “Community service is one of the most popular extracurricular activities for high school students to do in their free time”. (Barge,“How Many Volunteers Do You Need for College”). Volunteering can help students show the colleges they want to attend that they are a positive candidate for their college. Most students who volunteer are good citizens and leaders, volunteering can show this to admission officers. One popular type of volunteering is fundraising to raise money for a cause. If an individual participates in fundraising they can show colleges that they are responsible enough to handle money and be productive in a business environment. Above all, volunteering causes students to be able to place a certain amount of hours on their resume the effect can be a college acceptance, caused from volunteering.
The last reason some people might want to volunteer is to build an appropriate resume. “Volunteer experience can also help an individual land jobs in the business sector, as employers recognize that it helps students build various skills and organizational experience outside of what they’d learn in school”(“How
