Volunteer work encourages good citizenship. It builds trust with others and public institutions. Trusting people are more likely to get involved in leadership positions or even politics. It gets individuals involved by letting them meet a wider range of people, then learning more about local issues and legislation. Volunteer work teaches civic skills, which can then be used in the political arena, and help individuals become aware of social problems needing solutions (p 460-461).

A good citizen has many benefits for their community and society. Volunteering is something people do because they care about good citizenship. They want to help and better their community and do not expect anything in return. Some volunteer roles include Community support officers, St. John ambulance staff, lifeboat volunteers and people in the Territorial Army.1

Many schools need to push students to participate in volunteering services to receive their high school diploma. By students being part of an active role in the community, they are capable of becoming responsible leaders, learning new things, and helping those in need in their community. Volunteering is beneficial to students because it helps them become more mature and it helps them get ready for the real world. Students need to help the community whether it is forced or not.

Anyone can volunteer, as most positions require not skill, but time and a desire to help others. How and when you volunteer is extremely versatile and that’s why I enjoy it so much. I get the chance to interact with others, helping them in one way or another, and I can do that on my own time. I personally believe that it is important to give your services to the community during your High school years. It can be beneficial not just for that community but, to yourself which will help you in your time of needs. As a High school student, I know someone doesn’t want to do something kind for somebody or something else unless without something in return but looking few steps forward into the future, I feel that volunteering or doing community service hours will help much more in the near future after High school. Volunteering is important due to the fact that it is Socially, Intellectually and Artistically rewarding for High school students if that student is willing to put forward the effort of gaining something new and valuable from it. Many people believe teenagers must volunteer to be successful in life. The common thought is that you need volunteer and extracurricular activities to get into college however in our changing society this is not true. Students should not be required to volunteer because they need more time to do homework, it’s more useful to have a job, and it takes away from quality time spent with their family.
