Volunteering can help not only the person receiving the service, but also the individual doing the volunteering, three benefits a person can gain from volunteering are; attaining leadership skills, earning an academic credit, or to build a resume. Volunteering can be done in some many ways; from helping the elderly, to starting a club that gives back to the community. Volunteering does not give a person materialistic rewards, such as money, but it can give someone knowledge and time spent with people who can teach someone about life. Ultimately, volunteering is when someone does another person a service without any form of payment.
One benefit a person can gain is leadership skills, some skills an individual can obtain through

Anyone can be a volunteer, and through volunteering a person can gain leadership skills that might one day help them further a career, and gain relationships that will last a lifetime.
Most students are required to do a certain amount of community service or volunteer hours. “Community service is one of the most popular extracurricular activities for high school students to do in their free time”. (Barge,“How Many Volunteers Do You Need for College”). Volunteering can help students show the colleges they want to attend that they are a positive candidate for their college. Most students who volunteer are good citizens and leaders, volunteering can show this to admission officers. One popular type of volunteering is fundraising to raise money for a cause. If an individual participates in fundraising they can show colleges that they are responsible enough to handle money and be productive in a business environment. Above all, volunteering causes students to be able to place a certain amount of hours on their resume the effect can be a college acceptance, caused from volunteering.
The last reason some people might want to volunteer is to build an appropriate resume. “Volunteer experience can also help an individual land jobs in the business sector, as employers recognize that it helps students build various skills and organizational experience outside of what they’d learn in school”(“How
When one volunteers, it is not for their personal gain, yet rather for the benefit of others. The volunteering opportunity would enable one to make a direct connection with others. Thus, the volunteers get
The first reason you should volunteer is that it betters the community around you. You can live in the most beautiful city in the world but would not want to live there it was dirty because of a lack of people caring about littering or if there were large amounts of homeless and hungry people because no one volunteered to help build a house or volunteer at a soup kitchen
From the ones who travel overseas to help the poor in countries like Africa, to the ones we have right here at home. A volunteer is a person who offers to do something without being forced to do it, or without getting paid for it. These people have great value to our lives. Helping others gives you the satisfaction of knowing you have done something good. There are many people who can benefit from your work. You don't have to be an expert to help others. There is no need to be a doctor, all you need is the willingness to do it. Volunteering strengthens your
The point for volunteering is to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. Let me tell you, I have learned to do each and every single one of those. I realized that the kids from the rec. center are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a group of kids that needed help with homework and when walking around I hear a conversation
Volunteering can help you gain experience in an area of interest and meet people in that field. It can expose you to different careers, even if you not planning on changing careers. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice important skills used in the workplace, such organization, communication skills, time management, team work, and handling task. Volunteering has helped transformed me into a well-rounded person. When I first began to volunteer I thought I would be helping or impacting other people’s lives but honestly its helped change my life for the
Volunteerism is a path to responsible citizenship. Volunteering is a form of generous behavior, with a goal of providing help to others, a group, an organization, a cause, or the community at large without expectation of accolades or material reward (Musick, 2008, p 3). Volunteer work encourages good citizenship. It builds trust with others and public institutions. Trusting people are more likely to get involved in leadership positions or even politics. It gets individuals involved by letting them meet a wider range of people, then learning more about local issues and legislation. Volunteer work teaches civic skills, which can then be used in the political arena, and help individuals become aware of social problems needing solutions (p 460-461).
A good citizen has many benefits for their community and society. Volunteering is something people do because they care about good citizenship. They want to help and better their community and do not expect anything in return. Some volunteer roles include Community support officers, St. John ambulance staff, lifeboat volunteers and people in the Territorial Army.1
Many schools need to push students to participate in volunteering services to receive their high school diploma. By students being part of an active role in the community, they are capable of becoming responsible leaders, learning new things, and helping those in need in their community. Volunteering is beneficial to students because it helps them become more mature and it helps them get ready for the real world. Students need to help the community whether it is forced or not.
Anyone can volunteer, as most positions require not skill, but time and a desire to help others. How and when you volunteer is extremely versatile and that’s why I enjoy it so much. I get the chance to interact with others, helping them in one way or another, and I can do that on my own time. The wide range of volunteer opportunities allows one to play to their strengths as well. When volunteering, the opportunities are truly endless. Most of all, I love to volunteer because I know I can make a difference, whether it’s the fixed deck of an older couple, a higher grade on a math test, or just watching the church youth grow in mind, body, and faith, the effects of the dedication and care shown by a volunteer are clear. I volunteer because I feel that I’m making my small corner of the world a better place, one hour at a
I personally believe that it is important to give your services to the community during your High school years. It can be beneficial not just for that community but, to yourself which will help you in your time of needs. As a High school student, I know someone doesn’t want to do something kind for somebody or something else unless without something in return but looking few steps forward into the future, I feel that volunteering or doing community service hours will help much more in the near future after High school. Volunteering is important due to the fact that it is Socially, Intellectually and Artistically rewarding for High school students if that student is willing to put forward the effort of gaining something new and valuable from it. This is why I favor that your time is very important to your community and gaining something useful in return and it should be mandatory to do community services.
Volunteering is good for the mind, body, and soul. For some of us, it is hard to find the time. Becoming creative and doing what you deem a little can be BIG for another. Dr. Martin Luther King said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent questions is “What are you doing for others?”
Volunteering is important for many reasons. I believe volunteering is special and offers a person certain aspects most things in the world cannot offer. Volunteering is good for the community. It allows a person to demonstrate their commitment to their community; a way of giving thanks. In doing so, the community will grow and prosper. When I first arrived in Selinsgrove, my family was struck with tragedy. The community of Selinsgrove offered their helping hand and showed nothing but love and support for my family. Being a child of constant traveling, I was shown the comfort of being a part of a community for the first time. This kindness is what inspired me to begin volunteering in my community.
Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering).
Many people believe teenagers must volunteer to be successful in life. The common thought is that you need volunteer and extracurricular activities to get into college however in our changing society this is not true. Students should not be required to volunteer because they need more time to do homework, it’s more useful to have a job, and it takes away from quality time spent with their family.
Volunteerism enables students to gain the moral lesson that is vital to their life and develop their future interest. According to source 2, “community service teaches us through experience - about the relationship between empathy and responsibility, about what it takes to be part of a community, in essence, about human being”. While students are helping their community, they learn the crucial moral lessons in the most direct and impressive way. Through an actual experience of volunteering, students are reminded that it is their responsibility to serve for their community because they are a part of it. Helping without any feedback allows them to realize the power of empathy, the essential value that makes the society a
