Many teens right now in America spend their free time watching T.V, going to parties, or just being with their friends. What if those teens changed their activities to something that could actually help society? By making volunteering mandatory for all students in American high schools, we can actually do that. Volunteering makes you a better person, exposes you to different things in life, and helps your society, so why not make all those things necessary to graduate? Your tedious sunday afternoons could be spent helping injured animals, taking care of jovial children, or even fundraising for the poor. Those were only some of the things you can do if you just try spending your free time volunteering. Unless we make volunteering mandatory some teens will never even have the chance to try to do some of those things. As an example, Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” First and foremost, volunteering can make you a better person, and it really helps you to become a better problem-solver. In addition to all of the other things volunteering helps you with, it builds career options. The Prospect said, “Charity work gives students opportunities to test out a desired career path.” Doing volunteering can really open your eyes to a lot of career paths and help you with your overall decision. Moreover, volunteering helps you gain a lot of new experiences and insights. According to the Prospect, “Volunteering allows students to get involved with new things and develop technical, social, and academic skills that couldn’t be learned in a classroom environment.” You get to create connections with new people, and just learn so many things that you could never learn at
