The wages of fear was a fun and fantastic movie. Going into this, I realized that I wanted to watch a film that had horror in it as well as mystery and suspense. This movie starts off with the Frenchmen Mario, and Jo, Dutchman Bimba, and Italian Luigi being stranded in the remote town of Las Piedras. Circled by desert, the city is connected to the outside world only by a minute airport, but the airfare is much too expensive for the guys. There is limited opening for employment besides the American corporation that rules the town, Southern Oil Company (SOC), which runs the nearby oil fields and maintains a private compound in the city. Despite the risks, many of the locals enlist, seduced by the high pay off two grand per driver. This is an absolute fortune to them, and the money is viewed by some as the only means out of their hopeless lives. The pool of candidates is thinned down to four drivers: Mario, Bimba, and Luigi are taken, along with a man named Smirnoff. However, he fails to emerge on the designated day, so Jo, who knows O' Brien from his unlawful days, is replaced in his absence. The other drivers assume that Jo assassinated Smirnoff to aid in his private hiring.

Jo and Mario move the nitroglycerin in one vehicle; Bimba and Luigi in the other, with thirty minutes parting them to limit possible losses. The drivers are made to deal with a string of physical and mental hindrances, including a stretch of notably rugged road called "the washboard," a construction barrier that requires them to wobble around a rotten platform above a mountain, and a boulder obstructing the road. Jo discovers that his nerves are not what they used to be, and the others confront Jo about his growing weakness. Finally, Luigi and Bimba's truck detonates without warning, annihilating them
