Rough Draft Research Paper
When going to war one should always weigh the cost and benefits of the conflict in all its terms from loss of land and resources to death and morality. Extra care should be taken when this war is to be waged against creation, human beings themselves are of this earth. Ever since the beginning people have purposely and passively influenced nature. Now we are a powerhouse of a species spralling from sea to shining sea and our impact creates larger and larger causatums. If we are not careful this new war on weeds could help create the wave that capsulizes our species. A holistic approach to ecological management is the best way to manage weeds for a healthy ecosystem and sustainable future. Conservation biology, ethnobotany, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), Ecologically Based Invasive Plant Management (EBIPM) and Permaculture. All of these are newer ideas in the still young field of ecology. Ecology definition, as given by Wilson in “Diversity” “is the study of the interactions of organisms with their environment, including the physical environment and the other organisms living in it.” (396) In this general field new ideas gain popularity and support they spawn off into

The textbooks of history are littered with examples of biological controls that for many a reason went out of control. One destructive example is flowerhead weevil that attracted many general thistles instead of its targeted musk thistle. A holistic approach may use a biological control but because of the large amount of morality in most holistic practices and tight regulations anymore they would chose to simply use predaters that they had available, a favorite are goat and sheep. If managed properly they can be trained to eat a target weed and cause minimal damage to habitats while adding in natural fertilizer. Example (berry
Wether you call it Hemp, Mary Jane, Pot, Weed; it doesn't matter. It is still Cannabis Sativa, or cannabis for short. And it is still illegal. The use of marijuana as an intoxicant in the United States became a problem of public concern in the 1930s.
“People can't live without the herb man, / If not they'd be drinkin’ and drivin’ and
Finally, the last reason why weed should be legal is that being illegal is actually not stopping anyone from smoking or trying it. In the United States reported by Herb.com with a survey that they recently done that there is actually more American at this time that report to smoking weed than ever before. It reports that 45% of Americans admit to smoking or trying cannabis for personal use, which is the most in U.S history (Sanger).
Minutes pasted before Arnold could even get his mouth to form coherent words. What Gerald just told him was unbelieveable. To think his best friend was hiding such a thing from him this entire time. At that moment, he felt nothing but sympathy for his friend, and the first thing that came out of his mouth was...
Weed. Pot. Reefer. Mary Jane. These are all common street names for Marijuana, a product containing the mind-altering THC chemical that stems from the Cannabis sativa or Cannabis indica plant. Though the herb is not new, the product grew popular during the counterculture movements of the 1960’s and 1970’s, which sparked a wave of concern for many conservative Americans. In light of this conservative movement, and president Richard Nixon’s “War on Drugs”, the United States Congress passed its first federal prohibitory drug statute in 1970 known as the “Controlled Substances Act” (CSA). This act categorized a number of popular drugs into five categories, or schedules, based on their “medical utility, abuse potential, and safety of use under medical supervision”. The most restrictive Schedule I category contains substances with “currently no accepted medical use, high abuse potential, and a lack of demonstrated
Mulches are another form of control that seem to work well for several types of weeds. Black plastic mulch is an option for growers who would
Cannabis is a drug many people use. It is a genus of flowering plant that includes three species or subspecies, sativa, indica, and ruderalis. Cannabis, along with other drugs, is a very addicting habit. Many people, teens in particular, smoke weed. Cannabis is a flowering herb.
Marijuana is probably the most recreational and illegal drug in the world. The most significant ingredient is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinal, it is commonly referred to it abbreviated form THC. This drug should not be legalized because it would lead to hard core drugs, there would be an increase in obesity, and it affects the heart, lungs and the brain. There are legal, social, and medical reasons that marijuana should not be decriminalized.
I guess you all know my speech topic, that’s right the topic today is weed 101. Probably one of you did believe that my speech topic is weed 101 because of the stereotypes about all Jamaicans smoking weed, but no my topic today is not weed 101 the topic is over coming pressure and stereotype.
The Weed Risk Assessment determined that this species should be rejected with a score of 10. It is clear that this plant will impact on the environment (score of 11) yet have minimal impact on agriculture (score of 2). It has 12 undesirable attributes.
Hi Steven, I completely agree with you. I love your example of weed killer. I understand that people want to kill there weeds for many reasons, but I feel it is absolutely horrible for us and our environment. I grew up in the country living next to fields. Of course they spray for weeds and bugs because in their opinion it is right. I remember my mom would never let me go outside when the fields were be sprayed. If there was the smallest of wind I could inhale it which is not good for our immune systems. Not only could it harm anyone that went outside on a spraying day, but it could kill any living plants that have been exposed of it. I did not live on a farm as many people would assume, just out in the country on a large acreage filled with
Noxious weeds affect many things: Farmers, ranchers, consumers, tourists, animals, and environments. More specifically, noxious weeds affect anything. The weeds can damage a crop to the point that the farmer is unable to sell any of it. Livestock can be harmed negatively either through nutritional defects or physical attacks by these weeds. Consumers of products may increase in demand, but noxious weeds can lower the supply causing economic imbalance. Fans of state parks and public land are losing the beautiful lands that once existed due to the tyranny of noxious weeds. By understanding the affect noxious weeds have on one’s life, better management processes will be developed and put to work. Each individual can do their part by becoming educated in noxious weeds, even if it is a basic knowledge. In final, noxious weeds do affect lives and it’s the role of those on Earth to properly recognize, plan, and eliminate the damaging weeds as best they
Companies and researchers alternate the genetic structure of crops to withstand pesticides, non-GM weeds and insects can gradually develop a resistance to the chemicals. At this point farmers actually have to increase their use of pesticides. These practice causes weed populations to adapt to the herbicide and eventually become resistant to it. Once these superweeds emerge farmers must find a new herbicides and more potent products.
The “War on Drugs” is the name given to the battle of prohibition that the United States has been fighting for over forty years. And it has been America’s longest war. The “war” was officially declared by President Richard Nixon in the 1970’s due to the abuse of illegitimate drugs. Nixon claimed it as “public enemy number one” and enacted laws to fight the importation of narcotics. The United States’ War on Drugs began in response to cocaine trafficking in the late 1980’s. As the war continues to go on, winning it hardly seems feasible. As stated by NewsHour, the National Office of Drug Control Policy spends approximately nineteen billion dollars a year trying to stop the drug trade. The expenses shoot up, indirectly, through crime,
Genetically Modified insect resistant crops produce the toxic substances as a results it effect non-target organism and entire ecosystem. Biodiversity has significant role to balance environment as biodiversity decreases interaction between species decrease and ecosystem and food chain affect adversely. Some weeds are source of food for
