The War of 1812 made the United States realize that they needed more industrial business because they had lost their trade relation with Great Britain. Their industrial business was centered more around the North and less in the South. At the end of the war, their trade relation got better, but the Government put tariffs on imported goods. Before the war, tariffs were at 7%, but it changed to more than 20% in 1816. The Tariff of 1824 barely passed the House of Representatives, but there was a tiny
