Water Pollution in Cairo
The scale of pollution in Cairo is mammoth with the ever, continuing amounts of waste being released into the city. With the ever, growing population of Cairo levels of pollution are sure to increase. Recently the large EU financial institution announced on April 10 that it had awarded Egypt a grant of $79,000 to investigate the cause of the choking air pollution in the city, which has been blamed on Nile Delta. Due the massive amounts of pollution Cairo's daily air quality remains a constant health concern. The World Health Organization has reported that the air pollution in downtown Cairo is 10 to 100 times above the level considered safe

Ø Domestic wastewater
· Most of the wastewater collected by sewerage has not received much or in some areas no treatment. Also many wastewater treatment plants do operate unsatisfactorily.
· At the moment there are at least six operating domestic wastewater treatment plants serving the Greater Cairo area, and none of them discharge to the Nile near Cairo: three plants discharge through agricultural drains to the Northern Lakes and the Mediterranean, and the bilge water from two plants will be used largely for desert irrigation and land reclamation; only one plant discharges to the Nile, through an agricultural drain.
· Dumping solid waste - due to lack of solid waste collection - into waterways increases water pollution; in the city districts many small Nile canals are totally filled with plastic bags full of solid waste.

When you think of problems in the world today, water pollution isn’t one that would normally come up. In fact it is one of the worst problems in the world today. Water pollution, by definition, is the contamination of streams, lakes, underground water, bays, or oceans by any substances harmful to living things. All living things contain water and most need water to survive, so water pollution is a big problem. If severe, the pollution can kill off birds, fish, and any animals that use the water source. In some cases even killing an entire species.
Chicago’s water is still polluted. The Chicago River has been polluted for most of history. An article from the Chicago Tribune states, “Within minutes, the noxious blend of liquid waste began flushing out of more that three dozen overflow pipes that empty into the Chicago River … During the next twenty nine hours, more than two point six billion gallons of bacteria-laden sewage and runoff poured into the river …’”. This article was written only in June of 2017, that’s almost one year ago. Looking at it from the perspective of history it is not that far back in time that this happened. In general, the main cause of water pollution is the sewage pipes as well as the factories which are slowly becoming more in control. The soil will always dry out. They spend lots of money on fresh, wet soil. No matter what it dries out. By the end of the century 60 percent of the Delta region will be saturated in so much salt that almost no land will be farmable. 20 percent of the land will be covered in water. Two-thirds of Egypt’s food will drown and be completely underwater. This means about two-thirds, give or take a few will be completely homeless and hungry. This will not just affect Egypt, this is going to affect the whole world. There will be so much gas put into our world if the Nile Delta sinks. Many people used to drink straight out of the delta. It used to be so fresh and clear. Now waste is dumped into the Nile and it is toxic and brown. You can not drink out of the river without getting very sick. There are many pollutants that hurt our water supply such as farming. When farmers spray their fields with chemicals and apply fertilizers. Some of these chemicals reach the river, and animal urine and manure may be washed into the river. Another cause of water pollution is from accidents, such as tanker spills.
