We Have The Right Of Bear Arms

Gun violence kills 33,000 Americans and injures over 80,000 people per year. It is ridiculous how much damage guns have brought to not only us, but the world itself. From Columbine, to Sandy Hook, to the movie theatre to the Oregon Community College shooting, it has just been ridiculous. This is all because we in America believe it is okay for people to carry guns and for them to be used if “needed”. If they were always banned to begin with, we would never have had this problem. The private ownership of handguns should be banned in the United States. Handguns have been proved to be dangerous to society in recent events, they are the deadliest weapon in America, and lastly, guns cost Americans hundreds of extra dollars that could be avoided if they were banned.

To begin with, guns give people a fighting chance to survive and protect others against criminals. “10, 2014 Pew Survey found that 57% of people believe that owning a gun protects them from being victimized” (Procon.org). Who would ever want to die without having the chance of fighting back. Taking away guns from Americans can cause more deaths to those who have no protection.

Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.

The right to bear and keep arms comes from the Second Amendment adopted in 1791. There has been many shootings in U.S. history. One of the most frequent being the Las Vegas shooting killing 59 people and injuring 241. The deadliest shooting in modern U.S. Before that was the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007, only 10 years ago. The second deadliest modern shooting was only a year ago being the Orlando nightclub. Which scares me for what could happen in the future. People who are mentally ill are able to get guns when they should not. The CDC states that guns are responsible for 33,000 deaths a year in the U.S. with ⅔’s being suicides. For a bigger perspective how shootings are a problem here, it is shown that the U.S. is responsible for 31% of public mass shootings. Our homicide rate is ⅙ of Canada’s. These statistics should raise our concern on what type of people own gun and push for stricter regulations.

Gun control is a very big issue in the United States today. Many people don't agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns away from law-abiding citizens. Many people have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns are not very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection. The second amendment states "the right to bear arms" does this grant everyone a right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for a good guy to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea.

Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.

Even individuals who support gun rights acknowledge that some kind of people should not be allowed to have weapons because of their records. Proponents who favor gun control laws don’t believe that state and federal gun control acts do enough, they think that we need more restrictions and control, and gun rights advocates believe that the laws go too far, they think that giving the right to the government to control the purchase of weapons and allow background checks will give them the opportunity to look into our private life, and nobody wants, nor likes to be observed. Existent gun control laws prevent criminals, mentally ill people, and kids from buying guns. Unfortunately, there have been cases where teenagers and criminals have acquired weapons and used them to commit mass murders, and some other situations where kids accidentally kill themselves while playing with their parent’s gun. Weapon technology, gun ownership and even gun control laws can have unexpected consequences. Americans love guns, we love our second amendment rights and we strongly oppose those who try and take them away. Guns provide significant help for individual protection, but we need to stop handing them out guns like there is a war. The second amendment was implemented when we were still worried about the British taking us over, that is why Americans were allowed to have a gun, in case we need to call up the militia, but those days are over. The right to keep and bear arms may be the single most controversial and contentious right listed in the constitution and this might be because the right was listed in 1791 and understanding what the founders and framers actually meant. Some people think that the Second Amendment is outdated and if the founders even had any idea of what kind of weaponry we would have today they would have included that the right to keep and bear arms should only be used in hunting and sportsman ship.

Many people in the U.S. feel that guns are a problem there. People may believe this because of all the mass shootings or murders. But on the other side there are those who believe that it is not the guns that are causing the problems, the problem is the people behind the guns that have not been properly trained on how to properly handle and fire a firearm, but most importantly they have not learned how to respect them. If they were taught how to respect them, we had a different viewpoint, and a few laws were passed, most of the mass shootings and murders would decrease.
