From observing varying dental environments, what appealed to me most was the technicality and artistic skills that were encompassed. I shadowed three dentists for a total of three weeks at Penthaligon Dental Centre, where I saw a wide variety of treatments, ranging from general check ups to root canal treatments and crown fittings. While spending my time here I also observed an oral surgeon for a day - procedures which involved high precision and care. In contrast to NHS treatment, I observed private treatment at the Avenue Dental Practice, which I attended weekly for two months. One of the many differences was how the dentist executed a root canal treatment; using more developed equipment. Here, I also
While most of the patients I interacted with were seeking non-dental care, I met patients who were seeking care to health conditions that stem from their oral health such as oral abscesses, which our team was unable to treat except for prescribing antibiotics or painkillers. I encountered similar situations when I shadowed physicians in the emergency room of hospitals, observing a variety of craniofacial disorders originating from a preventable tooth decay. From these observations, I learned that patients often did not receive treatment that addressed the root of their problems: their oral health. As the result, I learned that many physicians saw the same patient repeatedly for problems that would otherwise be easily prevented through proper preventive dental care. Determining to address the unmet needs for accessible preventive dental care, I decided to pursue a career in dentistry so that I can provide a positive and meaningful impact to the underserved community on their oral health and ultimately their overall
Although oral problems have been around since the “beginning of mankind” (SB 1), the work in the dental field is still changing today. Efforts of treating tooth decay date back to 2700 B.C in Egypt and ancient China. Archaeologists examined the jaws of skulls only

During this semester I had the opportunity to work along the side with many dentists, hygienists, assistants, treatment coordinators, and also financial coordinators at Dental Associates of Manchester. Dental Associates of Manchester is located at 120 E Fayette Street, Manchester, Ia 52057. While I was on the work site at Dental Associates my job duties were to watch how the dentist and hygienists work and clean inside a patient's mouth and their full routine of what they do before a patient comes in and after a patient comes in. While I was working up front my job duties were to watch and see how they interact with customers and how they go about signing in patients checking them out and also scheduling them for their next appointment if necessary.
Dental hygiene plays an important role in oneś life, from infanthood to elderhood oral health is a visual into healthy bodies. Throughout one’s life annual dentist visits are a need to keep a mouth fresh and disease free. Looking back into my own childhood and the first visit, I was happy to be there. In fact, I found this new adventure in the dentist office better than being in a doctor's. Being a small child and coming into the office for a check up, the first face I saw was a dental hygienist. That meeting later motivated me to do all my studying to become one myself.
As dental health care providers, we look at the many ways we can help our community with their access to care, ways to provide preventative treatment, and how we may best be able provide services to our clients. Many times the largest issue that lies within our community is access to care1. This is current crisis is a tremendous barrier which is affecting low-income populations, restricting their access to care1. In order to provide much needed services to many who go without dental care, a new position has emerged within the dental provider community within the last few years. This new role is the mid-level dental provider. A mid-level dental provider is a

Oral health is an important part of an overall health. Oral diseases ranging from cavities to cancer are all serious threats to an oral health. Research shows that there may be a link between oral disease and other health problems such as diabetes, heart disease and stroke as well as pre-term and low-birth-weight babies. If left untreated, it can cause more complications to the oral health. Periodontal disease, root caries and infections and other oral cancer can lead to severe pain, loss of teeth and serious health conditions. As a health care provider, it is significant to realizing the connection between oral diseases and systemic diseases so that we all can deliver our services to prevent and help treat disease while it is still manageable. Expanding the role of dental hygienists might reduce the most serious consequences of limited access to dentists, and dental hygienists are potentially well suited to play an important role in expanding affordable access (1). Like most of my colleagues, I entered dental school unsure of specialty choice. It then motivated me to seek opportunities in various internship and externship programs to explore the many facets of dental medicine. Upon graduation from dental school, I attended the Eastman Institute for Oral Health of the University of Rochester, where my curiosity and interest in endodontics arose. Through various lectures and hands-on workshops on endodontics and microscopic dentistry, I was amazed and intrigued by the intricate and precise aspects required in the field of endodontics. I have also come to further appreciate the importance of preserving the integrity of a natural dentition.
We usually get you seen within five minutes of your appointment time, and we even have all the necessary new patient forms for you to download and complete beforehand. We use digital X-rays to get accurate images of your teeth, and we’ll even check for signs of oral cancer.
Although many Americans have good oral hygiene due to fluoride and making everyday good decisions, others do not have any access at all to oral health care. Over the years, dentists have been trying to demonstrate the importance of oral care. (“Access to Dental Care”) From commercials to campaigns, dentists will continue to demonstrate to their patients as well as to the people who don't have insurance the importance of oral health care. They will teach them preventative care and some techniques on how to prevent from getting any diseases.
