Most people would do anything to make even a small change in this bullying epidemic, so why not start a program to prevent bullying in the first place, rather than deal with the consequences later? Anything is worth a try to stop the tormenting of everybody and just try to realize that we are all human, no matter our race, religion, gender, etcetera. Instead of just telling children to not take the bullies seriously, or to stop bullying, we can teach them. Teach them the effects, teach them to be kind, and teach them that it is wrong to relentlessly put down each other. By implementing a bullying awareness program, one is teaching children about bullying and teaching them how to project their opinions in a considerate manner. Change needs to take place, and it starts with
Bullying, by definition “is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance” (Stop Bullying). Bullying has quickly become a serious problem in schools, and it negatively impacts both the bully and the victim. Students who have been bullied even once in their lifetime have a higher risk of attempting suicide, and in general have lower self-esteem, causing them to have difficulty maintaining relationships. Bullies themselves also begin to harass their peers because they have been abused or uncared for by their own family. While it may seem bullying is just a normal part of the high school experience, victims of bullying can face many psychological problems. Bullying is not something that should be disregarded, but instead should be properly addressed so that children who are bullied can find the help they desperately need.
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among people of all ages, but mostly school-age children. Society has been aware of bullying since around 1693, but it was not viewed as a real problem until the 1970s. “While overall incidents of school violence, such as assault and theft, have declined in the last decade, bullying is on the rise.” (qtd in Tyre) The percentage of middle and high school students that have been victimized by bullying went up from 14 percent in 2001 to 32 percent in 2009. (Tyre)

Bullying is defined as “verbal, physical, or psychological abuse or teasing accompanied by real or perceived imbalance of power” and is usually targets what children perceive as different (Olweus, 1993). Bullying is prevalent across the nation. It has devastating effects on students each day. Bullying is a problem for all students, regardless of race, gender or class. The National Education Association reports that 160,000 children are absent intentionally from school each day because they fear being bullied whether it is an attack or just intimidation by other students. This accounts for 15% of all school absenteeism (Hunter, 2012). Dan Olweus (1993) from the National School Safety Center tells us that bullying includes three parts: (1)
Bullying is bound to happen anywhere at any time but occurs mostly within school limits. Kathleen Winkler defines bulling in her book, Bullying, as “...any kind of ongoing physical or verbal mistreatment, done with the intent to harm, where there is an imbalance of power between bully and victim” (Winkler 14). Bullying has an extremely important impact on one’s everyday life and can affect their life negatively getting to the point where they can no longer take the blow. To try and prevent bullying from taking place in schools, one needs to know how bullying effects a person, what the role of each person involved in the situation is, and have knowledge of specific methods on how to prevent it. Bullying in schools is a serious problem and a handful of school do their part to prevent it; others, not as much, which means there is room for improvements.
According to the article “Tales of Bullying,” students can become a bad bully because you might have your own group of friends you want to impress or try to show off for, or you might have something going on at home. My name is Michael Nadasi From Irvington, New York Middle School. Recently, I worked on a project in ELA to make a Public Service Announcement about having the confidence to be yourself. Bullying is an “unwanted, aggressive behaviour among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance”. There are different types of bullying such as physical bullying for example stealing, breaking things and pushing, social bullying for example excluding others and spreading rumours, verbal bullying for example hurtful comments and name-calling and lastly cyberbullying which refers to technology and hurtful comments posted online about a person. Like I have mentioned in the paragraphs above, the effects that bullying has on children especially at school is that they feel insecure, lose interest in school and their schoolwork, they can feel lonely and have anxiety, and a more extreme and severe effect of bullying may result in them committing
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Both kids who are bullied and who bully others may have serious ever lasting problems.
Bullying is an everyday occurrence that happens universally. According to StopBulllying.gov in order for a behaviour to be considered bullying the behaviour must be both aggressive and include an imbalance of power such as psychical strength, access to embarrassing information or popularity to control or harm others. It’s important to note that power imbalances can change over time and in different situations even if they involve the same people. Second, the behaviour must include repetition. Bullying behaviours happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once. Bullying can include a number of actions including, making threats, spreading rumours, attacking someone psychically or verbally and purposely excluding someone
Whenever I am given an assignment about bullying I cringe. However, it is not because it pains me to discuss an experience, but rather that I have never been able to slot myself into one of the three broad roles of bullying continuously taught to us at school: the bully, the bystander and the victim. Based on these umbrella terms I could fully consider myself a victim, but that is absolutely not how I would like to be known. Calling myself a victim makes me seem so pitiful and weak; whereas I like to view myself as resilient. Although I was never popular, I was part of the pack in primary school. In grade 5, soon after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I rushed home wanting to switch schools after having been told that it was disgusting
