The Civil War was a turning point in American history in that it completely change the dynamics of the economy across the Union. Although many Americans had to change due to the loss of slavery and the destruction of the Southern economy, those who had to adjust the most were the newly freed slaves under the 13th Amendment. The new freemen now had the opportunity, and the challenges involved, of achieving the American Dream of economic freedom with the help of the Freedmen’s Bureau, Northern Carpetbaggers, and intellectuals such as Paulo Freire, who felt it was their responsibility to help the freed blacks in their journey to economic prosperity.
There are many unique types of animals in the Blackland Prairie; here are a few examples of animals in the Blackland Prairie. One example of one of these animals is the nine-banded armadillo. The nine-banded armadillo is a large, short and brown armadillo with a long tail and nine lines on its shell (therefore its name). They typically eat grubs, insects, berries, and eggs. This scaly critter lives in most of Texas besides the west, they typically live in woods, brush, grasslands and forests. Another one of the many examples of animals in this diverse ecoregion is the black-tailed prairie dog. These chubby, stubby, brown, and furry balls of cuteness live along the border of Mexico. It lives in dry, flat, sparsely vegetated grasslands. These rodents like to consume things like plants, insects, seeds, and grasses. These items make up most of their diet. They are habitat modifiers just like beavers, they build burrows underground close to each other. These are called towns.

The Prairie Meadows Scholarship will help me to pursue an education at the University of Iowa. With the money given I would use it to earn a degree in engineering or a degree dealing something with the law. My favorite subjects in High School were math and science. My whole life math has always come easy to me and for some odd reason I have a passion for math. During my Junior year of High School I took my second physics class and gained an interest in physics. Besides math and science, when I was a young boy I always dreamed of becoming a police detective, I used to run around the house pretending I was getting all of the “bad guys”. Now a days I also find being a lawyer fun and intriguing. I plan on earning my degree and graduation college.
Colonization in the west during the 1850’s was a very big deal to the United States. Many people believed in manifest destiny, the belief that the US had a God-given destiny to expand from coast to coast. The expansion west had many impacts on the US, the main three being social, political, and economic. Out of the main three, the aspect of the westward movement that had the biggest impact on the US was the social one.

Early cattle drives headed west to the California gold fields after 1850, when cattle worth $5 to $10 a head in Texas would garner five to 20 times that amount in San Francisco. Most drives to California took five or six months. Some ranchers held contracts to supply beef to frontier forts and to Indian reservations in West Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico beginning in the late 1850s. Cattle ranching virtually halted during the Civil War years, as the frontier retreated. Beginning in 1866, however, ranching and cattle trailing expanded rapidly. Cattle drives to northern and western markets, and later to railroad-loading facilities, started in earnest in 1866, when an estimated 260,000 head of cattle crossed the
Hoodoo is accepted to have started with Africans who were conveyed to America as slaves, principally in the Southeastern states where servitude was lawful, and moved West the country over. These men, ladies and youngsters frequently touched base on American soil with not very many individual belonging, if any by any means. They didn't carry their local herbs with them, and on the off chance that they did those things were probably taken away. The slaves ended up in a place where they were viewed as the property of injurious slaveholders and they didn't know anything about the herbs, plants and trinkets of this peculiar, new land. African and Native American slaves regularly ended up working nearby each other and it is trusted that through this
Many environmental factors allowed Native tribes of the Eastern Woodlands to shape and develop their own culture. Water was abundant, rivers and access to oceans enabled the Natives to grow and rely mainly on crops, like beans, corn and squash, travel, trade and communicate via water way. Natives used these rivers to trade and gain materials, such as copper, quartz, and pearls, develop relationships with other tribes, and explore new territory. Access to these natural resources gave artists the inspiration and material to create sophisticated and beautiful work. Communication with neighboring tribes to forge peace, resulted in less warfare. Dense forests provided ample wood for housing, travel and protection from opposing
Camp Ozark and its partner youth group, Ozone helped me in high school to develop my relationship with The Lord and my purpose to serve Him. The leaders and counselors that I knew encouraged me and guided me as I got to know Jesus. They are one of my biggest influences in wanting to do ministry in college and after. My relationship with my dad was something that hindered my self-perception and my relationship with Jesus. We had a tough relationship, as he fought a lot with my mom and also dealt with depression. I had a hard time understanding God as a perfect father, but over time I have come to learn what it means to have a perfect Heavenly Father, one that loves me unconditionally and rejoices in me. I have always had high expectations for
Suzanne Collins dystopian story, “Gregor the Overlander” takes place in an underground world where all animals are 10 times their overland size. The main characters Gregor and his sister Boots, fell into the underland form a vent in their apartment in New York City. Gregor’s dad went missing over 2 years ago and was never found. When Gregor was in the under land he found out that there may be a chance his dad is still alive in the underworld. One of the many themes the author Suzanne Collins repetitively teaches us is to never give up on family no matter what gets in your way.
