The American Revolution is a vital part in U.S history, but what caused it? To begin, Britain, like most countries at the time, were sending men to live and colonized the unexplored Americas. Long story short, after fighting the French-Indian War with Britain, the colonists wanted the British to back off, but the British wanted more control over them after all the money they invested in the colonies. As a result, this tension between the British and colonists would spark the beginning of a revolution. This revolution began at the Battle of Lexington and Concord; Thomas Gage, governor of Massachusetts, sent troops to try to arrest John Hancock and Samuel Adams, who at the time were setting up a provisional government around Gage and were also …show more content…

First, there was the Stamp Act, which forced colonists to pay taxes on all printed materials like newspapers. Next, the British started to make more and more acts like the Sugar Act, which was the tax of molasses. Then, the British issued the Townshend Act, which issued taxes on everyday items like glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. Technically, the British were taxing everything that the colonists had and needed in their lives. In document 3, the author states,” Stamp Act of 1765 which taxed all kinds of printed paper from wills, licenses, newspaper, diplomas, even playing cards”(Doc3). This act not only brought anger in colonists it also brought tighten the English reign on the colonists. Taxes were unfair to the colonists because everything they bought was taxed. To make matters even worse, the colonists could not even use or print their own money. The author states,”Britain passed a law that prevented the colonies to print and use their own money”(Doc3). Although Britain was on another continent, Europe, they forced colonists,North America, to use their currency. This gives the colonists no freedom to do anything if they can not issue their own currency or use their own currency. Remember that this is occurring after the French-Indian War to pay back for the money they lost in the war. The result of the taxation only made everything worse for the colonists, but it also sparked something inside of them; to become independent so they do not have to be in this situation again.
