What I’ve learned from my audience analysis is that not many people know about what the causes of the gender pay gap are. They left several comments about not know why or how it came to exist. I did learn that everyone at least has heard of the gender pay gap. As far as interest goes, the average interest in this topic was 8 which surprised me. Since there are more males in the class I figured that they wouldn’t care as much about the topic since it doesn’t directly affect them in a negative way like it does to women. I lowest level of interest I received was a two. The highest I received, twice, was a ten. This I was shocked by because I know that there are more than two females in the class. It helps to make sense of the numbers involved with this problem if you can visually equate them with something. I will also help me to have these numbers in a visual representation. I will try to hold my audience's attention by connecting it back to all of us as people seeking higher education. I will also try to present information that the might not had heard already, such as how it affects women of color. When the gender pay gap is typically talked about white males and females are usually who are being referred to. The supporting materials I have chosen are several graphs and charts that help illustrate the problem. I’ve also chosen to try to explain the gender pay using a fraction analogy. I’m hoping these materials will make the topic more understandable. When writing my speech I’ve tried to keep all of this in mind. I avoided using too many graphs because I didn’t want to throw too many numbers at the audience and confuse them. I also avoided using scenarios that were so specific that they might not apply to anyone present or too many variable to account for that the understanding of it would be skewed.
