What Does Freedom Mean To Me

Freedom, to many people does not necessarily mean they are free. There are many degrees and definitions of freedom throughout the history of America many different races, genders, and ethnicities experienced. The varieties of freedom come from multiple groups of people such as slaves, indentured servants, Native Americans, property owners, and Puritans. All of these groups had their own definition of freedom they experienced, ranging from little to no freedom, freedom from the land they possessed, and the freedom to worship any God they so choose. However, some of these freedoms conflicted with the freedoms of others.

True freedom is not something that can be given. It is something that every single person must discover for themselves. If a person were set free, though still thought of themselves as a slave, they are a slave. America is a country that thrives on freedom. Though numerous people throughout the United States take this privilege for granted.

Freedom means different things to various groups of people. For African Americans, freedom was being released from slavery and given the same rights that their white counterparts were allowed. For female suffragettes, freedom meant the right to vote, and to have a voice equal to the one that men had. Different groups have a different definition of what freedom means to them.

The power or right to act, speak or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. A word created by man to escape the bonds of tyranny to express the idea of what it means to persist one's own ambitions. Freedom. Freedom is not the absence of confinement but the will to achieve freedom when imprisoned. After carefully concluding the reading done over this semester one is able to clearly understand the confinement these early Americans felt and their decision to achieve a form of freedom. Freedom has always existed but it is the history of this nation that will define what actions freedom takes.

What is freedom exactly? Freedom does not merely refer to unshackled chains of slavery, although in the 19th century, this was the generally accepted belief. When the Civil War ended, many believed that for once, America was a “new nation, for the first time, wholly free” (Fonera 2). However, emancipation from slavery dramatically changed some Americans’ conception of freedom. In 1865, James Garfield asserted that if freedom is understood as “the bare privilege of being unchained…the absence of slavery…then freedom is a bitter mockery, a cruel delusion” (Fonera 2). Instead, freedom is about “civil rights, the vote, ownership of property” (Fonera 2). Freedom is defined by the liberties that

Some fought for their freedom physically and loudly by using actions like protest and violence while others forced the government with silence and boycotts. George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451, and Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “I Have a Dream” are all examples of struggle for freedom. They all show and explain the struggle for freedom using different actions, but express the same meaning.

Freedom is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without resistance. Freedom is important because we have the opportunity to pursue happiness. Freedom leads to creativity and your own thoughts. People who live in freedom often take it for granted. Imagine if we didn’t have freedom.

Freedom can get you places you never knew you could get to. Liberty is freedom for all. This does not mean whites get more freedom than blacks, or the other way around. This does not mean men get more freedom than women. This means everyone gets the same amount of freedom.

What does freedom look like? The definition of freedom varies. When I think of freedom three words come to my mind, which are liberty, independence, and equality. The subject of freedom is very important in the United States because it has been our nation is built on. We should all be thankful for our freedom and independence.

What does freedom mean to me? I think that everyone should have access to higher education because being informed is key to keeping our freedom. .Ignorance to the policies of our government and indifference leads to losing freedoms. If our legislators in Congress pass laws that restrict our rights, we need to be informed. Our voting rights are very important because we need to elect officials that work for the people and not large corporations.

Freedom , an important word in the United States of America. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, I am proud to be an American. In America we are free, we have the right to speak, there were tragedies and there might be more but you never know unless it happens. Freedom to me means that the government cannot tell you exactly what to do like a collective society, in a collective society the government runs every single thing, they give you the job that you will have for the rest of your life.

Freedom, some people take it for grant it, some people strive for it. Our country fought hard for it. Freedom means to me to is the right to do what you want. But we will never get full freedom because if we had full freedom people would do what they want and if people did what they want we would have conflict. With conflict people would fight each other because they would think the other person was doing something wrong and we don't want to have a Civil war. So our government has put limits on our freedom.

What is freedom? Is there a specific meaning to the word? Could the meaning be different for everyone? There is of course the obvious answer, where you might say that freedom is the essence of not being controlled by anyone. In the same way, you could reply by saying that freedom is having the ability to make your own choices. Both answers are correct in their own way. However, it could also be described in a very different manner if you were to ask Walt Whitman. A common theme is a lot of Whitman’s poetry is freedom; he observed the world around him, and had his own ideas of the true meaning of freedom. The definition of freedom may be simple to most people, but the true meaning is very deep, personal, and specific; it can never be explained, only experienced.

Freedom means living life as one wants, everything else is a form of slavery. If a person is not allowed to make his or hers decisions, if he or she is not free to live life as he/she wants than he/she doesn’t have power over his or her existence. If freedom was not essential for every human being than no one would have found so fiercely for it. If it was not important than today we would not be still fighting to keep and extend our freedom.
