Gaige is the long lost brother brother of Zeus, Hades, and Poseidon. Instead of being eaten by his father he held him above a cliff and then Gaige used his power to amplify gravity and his father dropped him and assumed he was dead. Although when Gaige was about to hit the ground he used his power for a split moment to get rid of gravity and have a soft landing. He was rescued by a married couple and was raised. When he was a teenager he used his power to save people from a falling building. Hades saw this and realized he has the power of a god. Gaige who has no recollection of his past or why he has these powers made a deal with Hades to become his pupil for his information about who he was. When this deal happened his body changed to make

He initially went to Oracle of Delphi to negotiate how he can compensate for the damages he has done. Campbell points out that the hero who accepts for a call has a helper. “The hero to whom such a helper appears is typically one who has responded to the call.” (Campbell 73). Most heroes have their own supernatural aid in doing some tasks. In the second labor of Hercules, Iolaus was the best friend of him who strongly helped him to defeat the multi-heads monster known as a hydra. Iolaus played significant role in Hercules’ victory over the horrifying creature. Similarly, Ged in a wizard of earthsea, with hungry for power and knowledge had a great helper named Ogion. Although Ged had power whatever he wants to do, he lacked how to use with it. The book says, “It had tricked him and fled away at once, not daring to face him. In this he saw that Ogion had been right: the shadow couldn’t draw on his power, so long as he was turned against it.” (Le Guin 143). Without Ogion, Ged couldn’t manage the trick he faced in the sea. Moreover, he realized Ogion is his best assistant in the adventure Ged was crossing. Therefore, Ogion was the supernatural aid throughout Ged’s journey. Likewise, Hercules was so powerful and courageous but he needed how to apply his power. Although Hercules initially ignored Iolaus aid, he later understood the significance of his best friend after helped him in winning his second task. Noah on the other hand was helped by fallen angel from a group of murderers who were chasing after him and his
More clearly than the Bible, Greek/Roman mythology helps outline the life cycle that almost always applies to the traditional archetypal hero. With basic knowledge of the Bible we can determine right from wrong and its influence in real life when reading mythology. As the reader we experience this when seeing the actions the hero takes, as explained by Frye when he states, "... the central myth of the hero whose mysterious birth, triumph and marriage, death and betrayal and eventual rebirth..." (Frye, 67), explaining the archetypical story outline of the tragic hero. As an example of the archetype, the story of Hercules starts with the mysterious birth of a being that is half god and half man, with his father famously being Zeus. Following Hercules' diverse birth we also know he triumphed over the leader of the underworld named Hades, while also
Hades is the Greek God and ruler of the Underworld. He is often associated with wealth and agriculture. He is also the son of Cronus and Rhea and the third most powerful Greek god. Unlike his two brothers, his realm cannot be seen by anyone living. The Greeks believe that his name, Hades, means “The Unseen One.” He is the only god that does not live on Mount Olympus; he has his own glittering palace made of pure gold and gems in the Underworld. The Greeks believe that when mortals
Hercules the son of the Greek god Zeus and a mortal mother (Thomas Bulfinch). The gift given to Hercules by his immortal father is superhuman strength. Hercules is dealt the job of
“The supreme deity of Greek mythology has his lusty, tempestuous story recast in engaging fashion by Stone”(ProQuest). Zeus was thought of as the father of gods and men. While he did not make them, he protected them, and therefore was considered a father to them. He ruled over the sky and air, and controlled everything that happened in his domains from his throne on Mount Olympus. To gain his throne, he overthrew his father, Cronos, with the help of his siblings, and then dividing up the realms between him and his two elder brothers. Zeus became lord of the sky and rain, Poseidon took the title lord of the sea, and Hades became ruler of the underworld. He then banished his father to the shadowy Tartarus in the underworld. Zeus was the most
Hey! You! Yeah, you. You should go on a kamikaze mission so you can join the armies of the dead! Hades is the god of the dead, and he is in charge of The Underworld. In addition he is the keeper of the paths by which the dead come to him. Hades (sometimes called Pluto) was the oldest of three brothers, who were Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. In this paper we will be hitting on the origin of Hades, the division of power between the three brothers, and what people thought of Hades as a deity overall (GreekMythology.com).
The primary ruling god of the underworld is Hades whose brother is Zeus, king of the gods, and whose parents are Cronus and Rhea. Hades is a greedy god with his greatest concern being to increase the number of his subjects. He is very stubborn about letting
In Greek mythology Hades is the god of the Underworld. He is part of the first olympians. He was in his father Cronus stomach until Zeus tricked him and freed his brothers and sisters. Once they were free they needed to wage war on Cronus, but they needed the backing and support from some other creatures to help fight the war. So the went to Tartarus the Greek equivalent of hell. When they were the set the Cyclopes free, in return the Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades all got magical items. Hades got a magical helmet that made him turn invisible. This would help in the war with Cronus and the Titans. Cronus was finally defeated when Hades got the jump on Cronus with his magic helmet and poseidon pinned him down with his trident. The Zeus gave the final blow with his lightning bolt to end it. (Parada)
Later on, Zeus appears to Hercules and gives him to the task to become a true hero, so he can then rejoin the Olympians on Mt. Olympus leaving behind his regular life behind. This is when Hercules accepts the call and advances to the next stage, entering the unknown. Emerging himself into a world of mythical creatures. Zeus then provides Hercules with helpers, Pegasus and Phil to assist him with his quest. Without their help it is likely that Hercules would not be able to complete the task (give examples how they did this). Zeus ends up becoming Hercules’ supernatural aid. As king of the gods and Hercule’s true father he has mastered the laws of the outside world and appears to bestow the wisdom Hercules needs to achieve his goal. As Hercules trains to reach divinity, he becomes famous among the citizens. However, when he returns to the Temple of Zeus, Zeus explain that fame is not equivalent to heroism and he must find the true meaning of the word. Afterwards, Hercules encounters his test and supreme ordeal. Along the journey his love interest, Meg, is captured by Hades and the only way to free her is to surrender his
Grendel approaches the mead-hall very silently, Getting ready to attack my men violently. However, this shall be his last evil feast, For with my bare hands I shall slay this beast! The monster devoured the first man in sight. I lay awake in my sleep preparing to fight, Yet Grendel continues to feast without a clue. Suddenly, my hands grip his claws like glue, And around the mead-hall we dance. Grendel is not willing to give me a chance, But I know he is cowering in fear. The end of this fight seems to be near; Therefore, I can feel his power waning. With my great strength and training, I rip an arm off of this ugly spawn of hell. Grendel’s overwhelming fear is easy to tell; He cowardly flees back to his wicked cave. Since this job was done
The gravity of the situation seems too heavy to handle. He is extremely overwhelmed; he has just been called upon to complete a daring adventure. His indifference is justified, since he has no idea what to expect on this journey. However, some sort of event takes place that makes the hero reconsider the possibility of going on the journey (Vogler). In Hercules, Hercules doesn’t know what he’s about to get himself into. He is quite surprised after he meets Zeus in his statue form. However, once Zeus tells him that he can be a god, Hercules becomes eager to set out on his journey
In an underwater palace in the Aegean sea of Greece, there lived Poseidon, the lord of the sea. Even though he was one of the superior gods of Mount Olympus, he spent most of his days deep under water. A long time ago, Poseidon and his brother Zeus, the god of the sky and the ruler of the Olympian gods along with his brother Hades, the lord of the underworld and the ruler of the dead fought their father Cronus. Together they destroyed their evil and vicious father who once tried to eat them in the fear of a prophecy that he would be overthrown by his own child. Since then, the three brothers had walked in separate ways and never reunited with one another. Nor did they look into each other’s eyes ever again.
Hades, the evil genius, is out to seek revenge on the other Gods because he feels he is unappreciated and powerless, compared to his all mighty brother Zeus and other family members. At the beginning of Hercules, Hades was simply a mistreated God who Zeus had selfishly forced to be the God of the Underworld; a dreadful, miserable place where souls go to suffer. Hades rarely has an important role in the lives of the other Gods, who spend their time living on Olympus; a wonderful and lively kingdom. Hades is jealous of the fortune of the other gods living on Olympus. He states, “but unlike you gods lounging about up here...I regrettably have a full-time gig...that you, by the way, so charitably bestowed on me” Hades is the ruler of the underworld, as he calls it, a dark and gloomy place, as well as, always full of dead people. So he feels he has been treated unfair and deserves more. Unfortunately there is no way to change this fact, unless you are Hades of course. Hades, being the evil genius he is, has a plan to take revenge on the Gods. In this plan he intends to destroy Olympus and rule the Gods forever. Because Hades is less fortunate than the other Gods, he is very overlooked by them. He feels that he has been put in a place where he cannot truly be a
