My hero project is about Michael Faraday who discovered and wrote about several rules of induction. Without him, you might not have any electricity coming through the grid at all because he was the one who invented the gener. Michael Faraday was born into a family consisting of one brother and two sisters on September 22nd, 1791. Unfortunately, his family was rather poor. He received only basic formal education and at age 14 he got an apprenticeship from a local bookbinder and for the next seven years he educated himself with the several books he bound. One day, he was given a ticket to a lecture by Humphry Davy and he later bound his notes on the lecture into a book which he sent to Humphry with a letter enclosed inquiring about a job with
A hero is someone who has concern for others, integrity and intelligence. Andrew Carnegie’s incredible intelligence is overshadowed by his cowardice and lack of concern for his workers. Born in Dunfermline, Scotland in 1835 to an incredibly poor family that immigrated to America in 1848, Carnegie began working almost immediately. His brilliance and intelligence brought him local fame and eventually brought the attention of the general superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad and he was hired to work for the Railroad company. Through years of working in the Railroads, he was able to become highly successful and managed to become one of the wealthiest men of his time. Towards the end of his life, Carnegie began donating most of his money to several different institutions, libraries, universities, etc. However, his venture’s into philanthropy were not enough to consider him a hero, but merely an incredibly successful businessman. Andrew Carnegie was not a hero in three areas of his life: his use of money, philanthropy, and the treatment of the workers in his company.
A lot of people may wonder who Andrew Carnegie was as a person. They may have also wondered if he was a hero or not. In some people’s opinion Andrew Carnegie was not a hero because he did not have the characteristics of a hero. He was an American industrialist who amassed a fortune in the steel industry. Then became a major philanthropist, he worked in a Pittsburgh cotton factory as a boy before rising to the position of division superintendent of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1859. Was Andrew Carnegie really a hero ? The definition of hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Andrew Carnegie may have been a hero for the achievements he made, but in other words
The second industrial revolution had a major impact on the United States, which is also referenced as the Technological Revolution. By the early 1900’s, the United States was known as the greatest Industrial powerhouse. America had several technological advancements happening at once, that not only improved people's lives but also made businesses flourish. Andrew Carnegie was the creator of steel, and he also found a way to mass produce it. Though Andrew Carnegie had several accomplishments and did the greater good he was not a hero in my eyes. If you were to define a hero, many would say that a hero is someone who sacrifices their own life for others, and wants what's best for everyone. A true hero would not use their fortune to run away from conflict, a true hero would not prey on others weakness to get to the top, and most importantly a true hero would pay their workers what they deserved for a deadly job and their time.
Hero, the definition of Hero, has been by pondered by many individuals. Hero is not word of mouth but a word of action characterized by spontaneous acts of benevolence to society, as well as leaving a mass footprint of succession that can be used as aide for the future. A famous entrepreneur, named Andrew Carnegie is a true definition of a hero, existing in an era of massive industrialization, where skyscrapers held their heights, and steam engines ignited. In fact Andrew Carnegie had indeed impacted the industrialized world with his new adoption of the Bessemer process creating his billion dollar steel empire. Andrew Carnegie can be defined as a hero because of struggles in his early life, philanthropy and his impact on the world .
“A hero does for others. He would do anything for people he loves, because he knows it would make their lives better”(191). This quote reflects on what a hero is in the book A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest J. Gaines. The main character Grant becomes a hero through the eyes of others, after meeting with another main character Jefferson, who was wrongly accused for a crime because the color of his skin was black. Jefferson got the punishment of being put to death by the electric chair. Grant goes to visit Jefferson in jail because Miss Emma wants Jefferson to be a man and walk to the electric chair. Grant could be considered a hero in this text because he helped Jefferson become a better person, Jefferson transformed into a man with the help of Grant for the love of his family, and Grant also teaches kids without enjoying his job though he is good at teaching.
Another man named Percy Spencer discovered how to get chocolate out of your pants and a new way to cook. Percy took the chance to make mistakes. He was brave enough to take chances and risk failing. I feel like every person should be brave. You will always fail if u don't try.
Andrew Carnegie was a hero because of his work ethic and his character traits. How would you feel a person made millions of dollars and eventually thought of giving it all away? A hero is someone who is admired and looked up to for outstanding achievement. Similarly, Andrew Carnegie was looked up to and admired by many for his philanthropy and hard work. It is because he worked so hard when he was young that he was able to become so wealthy.
His inventions helped everyone out, which improved the standard of living. Thomas Alva Edison
Have you ever been inspired by a hero because our technology today can make anybody a hero in an instant and can be applied today without much thought. We need to evaluate what it takes to be a hero and how they affect us. Heroes inspire us to improve our lives and make us a better person. Evidence suggests they determine the way we behave because we admire, adore, emulate them, place them in high regard and respect their accomplishments. Their qualities of courage, selflessness, humility, patience, caring, passion, integrity, honesty and confidence are all attributes that we all posses but it is whether we use them or not.
When people hear the word “Hero,” their minds instantly think of characters like spiderman and superman, people in flashy suits saving the damsel in distress. . . but do we really know the characteristics and true personality of a real hero? A true hero is someone who is admired or looked up to for the amount of courage they have or their incredible unseen achievements. In order for someone to become a hero, they need to have concern for others and they need to have the ability to inspire. Andrew Carnegie started off as a poor scottish immigrant, barely making ends meat, but his ambitious work ethic and discoveries (like the bessemer process) helped him rise from the depths of poverty, to owning one of the largest monopolies
I read the attached article in the Los Angeles Times recently. It is the story of a former Hells Angel who turned his life around as a result of a bad accident. He began climbing mountains and that led to the founding of a nonprofit foundation - the Heroes Project. According to the article, Heroes Project was born to inspire, train and accompany wounded vets to summit some of the tallest mountains in the world. I have climbed the two tallest mountains in California, Mt. Whitney and Mt. Shasta, and know how hard and uplifting it is. I do not know if you or U.S. Bank are familiar with the Heroes Project, but with Veterans Day this week and knowing our commitment to veterans, I thought I would forward it to you. This would be a great way
Thomas Alva Edison was an unconventional genius that played a vital role in shaping the modern world with his inventions, but didn’t accomplish this role easily. Edison led an inquisitive life encompassing his disruptive adolescence, unconventional methods of success, and exceptional ability to endure failure. Although his inventions and ideologies exemplified him, Thomas Edison overcame tremendous obstacles throughout his lifetime before achieving his anticipated goals.
Another idea of a hero was when Gandhi had stood up for his country; India. “Gandhi led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women's rights, and build religious and ethnic amity” plus he had “spent a number of years in jail in both South Africa and India”. In other words Gandhi never gave up showing everyone how India should be independent. Gandhi had stood out his way by leading marches to declare independence. Gandhi had been admired for his bravery (when he was thrown in jail a few times), his confidence (he never showed any sign of weakness) and perseverance (he had never gave up).
I decided to do my report on Thomas Alva Edison because he brought a lot of things into our world. He invented the light bulb, the alkaline battery, the phonograph, and many other things. Many of our modern electronics origins came from Thomas A. Edison. I thought he was very interesting. That is why I chose him.
Software is the basis of technology. Without software most of the devices used today would not work as they do. Bill Gates, the cofounder of Microsoft, is one of the people who are thanked for the software used today. A hero can be someone who has shown act of courage in the danger, someone who has help to preserve and protect the planet, or someone who has made innovations to help to enhance every day life. Bill Gates is consider a modern day hero because of the innovations he has made in the world of computer software.
