What Is The Difference Between King Jr And Lincoln

Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln did everything they can to achieve their goals in America. Both men used wise techniques such as speeches that influenced the nation and assembled an audience to lead. Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass both wanted to make a change for the world and do as planned. These leaders were able to be huge impacts in history and today’s world. The nation achieved the goals that Douglass and Lincoln desired as the nation was able to obtain as much change as possible for the United States.

Both Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln had goals for their country, the United States, both aimed for nearly the same idea for their nation. Where Frederick Douglass dedicated his life to achieving justice for all Americans, in particular African-Americans, women, and minority groups. He envisioned America as an inclusive nation strengthened by diversity and free of discrimination. On the other hand Abraham Lincoln wanted Uniting men from all parts of the country in pursuit of common goals, political parties formed powerful bonds of Union. Yet they could play this role only as long as the divisive issue of slavery remained outside the national political arena.

In American history, there were always these amazing speakers like John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK), Martian Luther King Jr and others, that would influence the people around them to strive for success, never give up because there will always be hope, and one of those speakers was Abraham Lincoln in possibly his best speech “The Gettysburg Address”. The American civil war was the bloodiest war the Unites States had ever seen roughly 620,000 soldiers died, and in that dark time people needed inspiration to rekindle the flame of hope, to have something worth fighting for and Abraham Lincoln inspired them to fight for their nation and not let those who died for the cause not die in vain. In Abraham Lincolns Gettysburg Address he used rhetorical appeals, Parallel structure, Contrast, and Allusion to end the American civil war, unite the north and the south to end slavery in the United States once and for all.

President Abraham Lincoln was one of the most honest and most popular of all of the presidents. For a large part of that presidency, however, he was only president of half of the country due to the nature of the American Civil War. Throughout his time in office, he was able to deliver many great speeches, of which include the Emancipation Proclamation and the Gettysburg Address. In both of these orations, he uses primarily uses ethical appeals to assist in the deliverance of and strengthen the main themes.

“I have a dream” and “The constitution is the guide which I never will abandon.” These quotes are very famous and spoken by two powerful men that has made a big impact on the world. Martin Luther King Jr. was known best for his powerful speech and also known for being a leader. “He was an influential leader of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, an advocate of nonviolence and a Nobel Peace Prize winner.” George Washington was also a great leader and started many new things in his life. “Best known as “Father of our Country” and was unanimously elected the first President of the United States.” Martin Luther King Jr. and George Washington are very well known and still leaving their impact to us.

Martin Luther King Jr. The constitution granted free speech to all american citizens. He used his freedom of speech to spread his message that segregation and inequality should be abolished completely and all people should be respected and treated equally. Many african american people were afraid to spread this message but not Dr. king he had , had enough of all of the separation and feeling of no self worth and he was ready to take a stand for his rights no matter what. Dr. King wanted to make his thoughts and feelings toward segregation known publicly. He tried to use his message to spread peace, to make friends and allies rather than

Abraham Lincoln will forever be embedded in history for delivering a presidency filled with work that was geared towards the best interest of the American people. Lincoln took the seat at a very difficult time in America’s early history, which was the Civil War. Lincoln made sure that after the war, that America rebuilds itself. One thing from Lincoln’s iconic speech that is not forgotten is “all men are created equal”. In today’s society, all people are granted the same freedoms and equalities. It could be said that Lincolns speech though was given in 1863 was the start of the Civil Rights movement in a sense. Even though it was only around 270 words, The Gettysburg Address was a speech with many messages8. These powerful words, spoken by an influential president, was sure to promote change and equality throughout America eventually.

Dr. King’s speech includes parts from President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. Dr. King formulates his argument by including the Gettysburg Address. He states “dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” He says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”  By incorporating this he provides evidence that what the Civil Rights Movement is fighting for, is already written in the Constitution. Dr. King recognizes there have been 100 years between Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and his own speech, and African Americans are still not free. He states, “whose symbolic shadow we stand today signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This momentous decree is a great

Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr. are seen as national heroes for the significant message they represent, liberty and unity. Throughout history, minorities have been oppressed and courageous men like Lincoln and King worked hard to liberate them. President Lincoln ended the Civil War and Dr. King was an activist in the Civil Rights movement. Both the Civil War and the Civil Rights movement lead to unity and freedom. Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address’ addresses the theme of freedom by having a nation where independence reigns by abolishing slavery. Conversely, in King’s I Have a Dream Speech, the theme of freedom is addressed by ending segregation and discrimination in America. Lincoln’s theme of unity is ending the war to unify the nation to improve it. Similarly, King’s theme of unity is ending the division of races in the nation and working together towards a better future.

They want to inform the people about the true meaning of this quote and make it a reality, hence defining freedom and equality. A difference between both speeches is that Martin Luther King alludes to Gandhi while Lincoln refers to the Civil War. In Martin Luther King’s speech, he discusses how the citizens of America will not rest until there is citizenships rights for all. King then deeply exclaims, “ Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plain of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence.” To paraphrase Dr.king is telling his audience that violence is not the correct way to gain what is wanted, but fighting peacefully will make a difference. Dr.King did not believe in violence and he wanted the community to know about Gandhi’s beliefs, which was his way of protesting, and to be the contrary of Malcolm X. On the other hand, Abraham Lincoln referred to the Civil War and talked about the war as a war that will be remembered throughout the world. He goes on and states, “It is for us, the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they have, thus far...it is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us that from these honored dead we take increased devotion…” This statement reveals that

​Abraham Lincoln addressed the people of the United States in his writing “The Gettysburg Address.” Lincoln’s speech addresses how our nation dealt with the struggle of equality and humanity. From comparing these two speeches, The Gettysburg Address, by Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president, and the speech, I have a Dream, by King, you find that they had similar visions for America. In their influential speeches, they both allude to an important event in American history. Lincoln refers to 87 years, before the civil war, when the forefathers signed the declaration of independence stating that they are independent from Britain (Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln). King also refers to the past saying, "Five score years ago, a great American, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the Emancipation Proclamation." In which he is talking about the Emancipation Proclamation when President Lincoln issued it 100 years ago, changing the course and making the war a fight for the preservation of human freedom. The reader indicates that they choose to allude back to a historical event because it backed their speeches up with historical evidence and proof. Furthermore, the themes of these two spectacular discussions are quite similar. For one, they talk about how there should be equality and no one should be left out. President Lincoln state's, "Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal." King stated that he had a dream that his children will be able to live where they won't be judged by their skin color, but by their character

Martin Luther King Jr. and Abraham Lincoln both helped tremendously as civil rights leaders. The civil rights movement took place in the 1950s and 1960s. So then, it is clear that both the Gettysburg Address and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech focus on the goal of equal rights for all Americans.

Martin Luther King Jr is an African American civil rights activist during the 1960s. I decided to do my analysis on his speech "I Have a Dream" because this speech is very important in American history. The speech has a simple context. "I Have a Dream" speech was given during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. Dr. King's main purpose was to make a change in white and black citizens during the Civil Rights era. He wanted to end racism in the United States and wanted everyone to accept the change in a non-violent way. “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. We hold those truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.” (Jr).
