I am interested in membership because the organization is bigger than myself. What I mean by this statement is that the work the founders put into making sure this organization was not just a social group is mind blowing. For example, The founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated were the only African American women to attend the women's suffrage march in 1913. I believe in the Programming thrust and principles. The five programmatic thrust shows me how involved the organization is involved in making the world a better place. For example, Physical and Mental is a very big thing to me as a psychology major. In the black community, we like to push away the fact that mental illness is alive and well within us. The principles are important
Sororities encourage one to become involved in the community, develop leadership skills and pursue lifetime goals with passion. The sisterhood that sorority members experience helps females build confidence and lasting friendships that are beneficial throughout their lives. Sorority members are also granted special privileges on and off
As I started Bloomfield College I have always been interest in joining a sorority. I went to many different interested meeting and none of them caught my attention like Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. did. When I sat down and listen to their history and their goals it really made me change my mind and realize that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. was the one. I am a proud Latina and to know that they were the first sorority ever created to cater towards the needs of Latinas in the nation made me more excited and enthusiastic on being part of the interested ladies. The main thing that captured my interest was to know that Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority Inc. is a scholarly excellence sorority. As any person would think a sorority is about partying and having fun I believe this one focus more on their educational future and to achieve their goals.
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be in a sorority. I have always had this image of what a sorority girl was in my head. They were the pretty, stuck up, and rude girls. I didn’t want to be involved with drama and hold girl’s hands in pictures. I just wasn’t that girl. My best friend joined a sorority and she changed but not for the better. She became one of those girls who only thought about herself and her appearance. I wanted to focus on school and making friends, not partying every weekend and caring about my outfit for that night.
In order to get information for my paper, I interviewed someone with a position of authority within Tri Delta. Her name is Danielle, and she is the new member educator. The first thing I learned about Tri Delta is that it is more than just letters on a shirt, songs and chants, a gold pin, socials, rituals, an obligation, or a way of life. “Being in a sorority is about learning about people and being able to give without expecting a return. Tri Delta has allowed me to find lifelong friends and find confidence in myself as well as in my sisters,” Danielle explained. After hearing her explanation, I couldn’t agree more. Danielle also told me that the close relationships are her favorite part. “My favorite part about being in Tri Delta is the sisterhood.

Women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., not only give back to their community but are also leaders, uniting women to have a positive impact on others. Joining a sisterhood such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. is a lifelong commitment. Since Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. starts in the collegiate years, the skills you learn can help later on in life. It is also preparation for working with people with different personal and professional backgrounds. Also, to be aware of what is going on around you and how you can make an impact. Young women looking for mentorship can have a positive
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending many of the chapter’s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have made everlasting effects on my life. Having mentors in this fraternity allowed me to see how every member feels responsible for improving the communities that they are from. They never hesitate to take the leadership roles that are needed to see change. I would like to become a member of Alpha Phi Alpha because it would allow us to share a brotherhood with great men, it will allow me to make valuable connections with other positive men around the world, and it will help me become the best version of myself. My desire to become a member of this fraternity began my freshmen year after I attended the first informational meeting. At this meeting I was able to speak with members and also learn from them. They each have strong leadership characteristics that allow them to serve on executive boards across campus and they all are high achieving students at Cornell.
The question was asked, why do I want to be a member of Alpha Phi Alpha? Before answering the question, I would like to talk about myself as this will provide a greater context to my response.
Specifically taking the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority into account in present day. It is quite evident that the purpose and message from the earlier founders of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority still live on today. I interviewed Kayse Cuevas, a twenty-one-year-old senior at Oklahoma State University. She is a current and active member in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. I asked Cuevas if she had any family members that were Deltas and she confirmed that she in fact did. Cuevas has a cousin that’s a Delta and her grandmother’s best friend is also a Delta. When asked what motivated her to become a Delta her response was inspiring. Cuevas said that her grandmother’s best friend is nearing her eightieth year of life and is still extremely active within the organization with helping in the community
Joining a sorority is not just four for years but for life. Going through a week-long process of meeting thousands of girls can be intense, overwhelming but intriguing and exciting as well. Recruitment to many is known as a terrifying process where girls come from all over with matching shirts, bright smiles and dreams that at the end of the week they will receive the white envelope that incases the 4x6 card with the sororities crest inviting them into their sisterhood. By preparing ahead of time, which includes building a resume, searching for recommendation letters and extensive research on each chapter, sorority recruitment doesn’t have to be an intimating process.
During recruitment, one of the first questions that I asked in each house was how soon I could start getting involved. I was pleased to hear that new members can become involved very easily and quickly. And I have most definitely found this to be true. Within the first few weeks of joining my sorority, my email was flooded with opportunities to sign up and serve even as a new member. Already, I have signed up to be on some committees for next year and plan to become more involved with our philanthropy events very soon such as Golf on Grounds coming up in a few weeks. Currently, I looking at joining the Scholarship Committee and Wings on Wishes Committee for Chi Omega. I decided to pick these two because both are incredibly important to me. Scholarship has and will always be a top priority for me. Therefore, it is something that I believe should also be a priority of Chi Omega as I believe that academics should come before social events. Because this is difficult to do sometimes, I would love help others who, like me, sometimes struggle with this. Additionally, I hope to join the Wings for Wish Committee because of my passion and joy for serving others. In fact, taking part in philanthropy events was one of the main reasons why I joined a sorority. By joining the Wings for Wishes Committee, I would be able to do just this as well as do something with Make a Wish that is very close to my heart. Beyond next year, I will most definitely consider becoming a part of the board for the ISC and plan to find other leadership positions within YoungLife or InterVarsity next
If it was not for prayer, God, and my family. I would not be typing the interested letter today. The founders of Delta Sigma Theta took an initiative to make a difference each program under the five point thrust impact people all over the world. When asked why Delta Sigma Theta over any other sorority. Delta Sigma Theta does not just impact African American women lives in their community they change and impact lives all over the world male and female.
As a commuter, I sometimes find it to be a bit more difficult to meet new people that will become your good or event best friends and in joining Delta Sigma Pi, I hope to become a part of the great community and brotherhood that Delta Sigma Pi had created in NYU because from going to rush events, I realized that I really like the brothers. The family-like atmosphere of the fraternity is absolutely amazing and I would love to be part of this big family, meet all the brothers and create life-long bonds. Other than becoming a part of the brotherhood, I will also be submerged in an environment where everyone is driven and motivated which will also further motivates myself. Obviously from a professional standpoint, joining Delta Sigma Pi will be
I show this by having a 4.0 GPA. By being a member it will help me to stay on top of things and to always reach for good grades. This shows my determination to take part in this organization and do well in school by striving to get good grades. In conclusion, I hope to become more successful in my character, leadership skills, and community
