What Is The Fourth Main Cause Of World War 1

The Great War killed around thirty-seven million civilians and military casualties. The war was a military conflict including almost all the largest powers in the world. It was a war between two opposing alliances, The Triple Entente (Allies) and The Triple Alliance (Central Powers). The main countries in the Triple Entente were Russia, France and Britain. The Alliance powers consisted of Germany, Turkey (also known as the Ottoman Empire), Austria Hungry and Italy. After five assignation attempts, on June 28, 1914, Gavrilo Princip, a member of a Serbian Nationalist group, assassinated the next king of Austria-Hungry, Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in Bosnia. One major reason for why World War One occurred was due to the difference over foreign policy between major world powers hence the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. On July 28, 1914, Austria declared war on Serbia as they only gave nine out of ten demands made in the ultimatum from Austria thus bringing all the alliances together. This assassination is what triggered what is now known as World War One, making it spread from 1914 to 1918. World War One was a military conflict among great powers of the world. Most European countries had the capacity of motive and means to engage and were willing to take part in the First World War. The four main causes of World War One consist of Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism and Imperialism.

Nationalism wasn’t the only cause of world war one so were Imperialism, Alliances, Militarism, and Assassination. Alliances were a major part of the war , it was basically their back up plan you can say. If they needed something their alliances were their to provide them with money, weapons, etc. The not so good part about this is that if one country is in a war they can easily get sunked into the war as well. Militarism created arms race it was created do to the modernization of armies. It wasn’t necessarily the cause of world war one it was more of a combination of things. It also had to do with imperialism. The counties involved wanted land that wasn’t in their borders. It is a problem but it didn’t really set it all off as well as nationalism

Nationalism was a huge contributor to the outbreak of World War 1. Every single country wanted to be more powerful than any other country and that led to power struggles. Nationalism didn’t only cause the assassination of the Archduke, but Germany wasn’t completely recognized as a threat or tough competitor, but the German people wanted to be known which caused jealousy, and major arguments that caused fighting.

The overall cause of World War I was the growth of nationalism in Europe during the 1800s and 1900s. Every other cause boils down to nationalism and the excessive pride everyone felt in their own country during this time. Nationalism impacted all the other causes of the war. Other major causes of the war such as, imperialism, assassination, and militarism all had to do with nationalism.

As a result, nationalism played a key role on why world war 1 started in the first place. Because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia´s government for the attack and wanted to use the incident as propaganda for defining Slav nationalism once and for all. Nationalism is a feeling that “people have of being loyal to and proud of their country often with the belief that it is better and more important than other countries” (Simple). Nationalism along with militarism and imperialism caused the internal conflicts in Europe. But Nationalism was the primary cause of the internal conflicts in Europe that became World War I.

Many believed that Nationalism is the reason of World War I. There have been many incidents involving Nationalism that lead up to World War I. Nationalism is a strong belief that the interests of a particular nation-state are of primary importance. The critical factors leading to World War 1 were militarism, imperialism and alliances. They were all impacted by nationalism which means being strong supporter of the right and interests of one’s country. In at that time everybody wanted to be there own country.

In my opinion I think that Nationalism is not the main cause of World War I starting.I think that the Alliance System in the main cause of the war starting because nationalism is all about pride and if they had enough pride they wouldn’t need the help of other countries. Nationalism is a belief or political ideology that involves an individual with, or becoming attached to, one’s nation. Finally, all the nationalist have so much pride that they wouldn’t want to risk the fact that they can possibly losing their own freedom.

Nationalism could have been explained as an extreme form of patriotism and loyalty to your county, nationalism placed the all of their interested above all the other countries and thought that somehow they were better in many ways then others. If you were nationalism you were given excessive confidence in your nation, as well as the governments and you’re military. The government always let the people know that their country was fair, righteous and without blame. Nationalist ideas demonized rival nations, caricaturing them as aggressive, scheming, deceitful, backward or uncivilized. They convinced many citizens their nation was being threatened by the plotting, scheming and hungry imperialism of its rivals. Nationalist and militarist assured people that if war erupted, their nation would emerge victorious and that they would always win because they believed that they could win no matter what. Pre-war nationalism was fueled by wars, imperial conquests and rivalry, political rhetoric, newspapers and popular culture, such as ‘invasion literature’ written by penny press novelists.

Austria-Hungary competed with Serbia and Russia for territory and influence in the region and they pulled the rest of the Great Powers into the conflict through their various alliances and treaties. World War 1 causes is one of the most studied in world history. There have been many interpretations and speculations about the events that led up to World War 1 but never-the-less, many lives were lost.

Nationalism can cause unity among a country but can mean competition between other nations. This cause competition between the European nations of France, Italy, Russia, Great Britain, Austria-Hungary, and Germany. Competition for ores and resources led to hatred between nations looking to expand their influence which was a direct cause for WW1. To be the best nation, they had to be the best at everything militarily and economically. Germany was more advanced than France, Britain, and Russia. Russia had the worst technology and military.

Nationalism, having a very strong passion for your country, was a main cause of World War 1 because many people felt the need to fight for their country. In countries from all over the world, men began enlisting in the army as soon as they could. In the first year of war, on October 3rd, 1914 approximately 33 000 Canadians set out overseas to Britain to fight for their home country (Canadian War Museum). Many people who weren’t fighting over seas helped out the troops by all coming together to make care packages that included many things that the soldiers needed, such as food, clothing, cigarettes, etc. Many things that the care packages included helped the soldiers survive and fight for a longer period of time. Although most historians would disagree that nationalism and militarism had any part in the outbreak of World War 1 nevertheless World War 1 was ultimately caused because of the increase in military and aggressive national pride. One of the main causes of World War One was the growing force of aggressive nationalism. According to merriam-webster dictionary, nationalism means “exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations”. This means the love of one’s country demanded the hatred of another country. While nationalism can be seen as a unifying force for a country it can also be seen as an extreme competition against other nations.
