Purpose of the brief
The Humane Society of the United States has asked Texas U.S. Representative Congressman Al Green for his support. The Humane Society is inviting Congressman Al Green to speak at several events, help pass animal protection laws, and help educate the public about animal protection issues.
Organization’s Mission
The Humane Society's mission is
-Provide rescue, care, and services for animals in need.
-Pass local, state, and federal laws while also keeping them enforced in order to protect animals.
-Rase public awareness about animal cruelty
One other animals rights organization, the Alternatives Research Development Foundation, has made it on the news recently with a winning lawsuit against the United States Agriculture Department.
Since earth was created, there has been a natural phenomenon of species across the globe appearing and disappearing. However, in the past century, many species of animals have been disappearing at an alarming rate. Mainly, this rapidly occurring issue is caused by humans. Humans that contribute to the harmful actions that cause side effects such a pollution, deforestation, habitat loss and poaching. The natural rate of extinction pales in comparison to the extinction rate caused by all of these. According to the World Wildlife Fund, the current rate of extinction is 11,000 times greater than the natural extinction rate. Several different efforts have been made in order to stop or slow down the extinction of earth’s species. The Endangered Species Act is possibly the most successful example of these efforts. It’s main purpose is to get a commitment from the American people that they will work hand in hand to help save species that are at risk of becoming extinct and never returning. This act was put in place in 1973 and since then, no other law about the disappearance of wildlife has been quite as accomplished. Many different species that are protected under this law are either fully recovered or on their way to becoming safer. Laws like these are helping many different creatures left and right, however, at the alarming rate that they are disappearing, something else needs to be done. What people don’t seem to realize is that we depend on many of the animals that we are
The American Humane Association does not have really any negative ethic issues. They strive on holding their ideas, mission, and their vision of ensuring the welfare of both children and animals. American Humane Associations envisions a
The purpose of the human services throughout history has remained basically the same, to help those that cannot help themselves. To varying degrees though the interpretation of the above statement has changed and evolved. The act of helping has taken on many shades of gray, questions of; “Are we helping too much or too little?” have gridlocked political parties and law makers. Another continual changing element is the criteria defining those who cannot help themselves. Determining if one needs help because they are lazy and refuse to do for themselves or if one indeed is trying but just cannot seem to
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world. The organization was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. The ASPCA is a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and has more than 2 million supporters across the country. It started in New York City and maintains a strong local presence, and now has programs that extend their anti-cruelty mission across the country.
The world and its people are not the only things that need assistance. We must not forget about the animals.Because animals cannot speak their concerns, we have to be their voice. There are animals roaming around homeless with no food or water and most of them have been abused. Animal lovers including myself, wont let this continue. Yes, there are many charities that have contributed to making animal abuse and neglect stop, but this issue hasn't been fully ceased yet. In result, I would like to support the non-profit corporation, ASPCA (the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). The ASPCA was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world to stop animal abuse and/or neglect. It was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. This organization is a no kill for space shelter. These are only some of the reasons why this organization is a noteworthy
Many researches are finding that many of our fellow creatures are more like us than we had ever imagined. A percentage of people feel that concern should be brought upon how animals are treated. The Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Animal Bill of Rights is a petition to the United States Congress. The petition states the basic rights that all living beings other than humans should have and that our government should protect. It states the right of animals to be free from exploitation, cruelty, neglect, and abuse. The right of laboratory animals not to be used in cruel or unnecessary experiments. The right of animals to be in a healthy diet, protective shelter and sufficient medical care. The right of wildlife to a natural habitat, ecologically good enough to a normal existence and self-sustaining population. The right of farmed animals to an environment that fulfill their basic physical and psychological needs. The right of animals to have their interest represented in court and safeguarded by the law of the land. These are the six important keys in the act. No one can predict what actually happens to animals behind doors or even in nature, but it is fairly easy to say that not all animals are
This Act was to provide programs to protect species identified as either endangered or threatened. It also mandated Federal agencies and departments to protect endangered and threatened species in their own operations, as well as work with State and local agencies to further promote conservation and protection of identified species.
“To provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States”
According to the ASPCA website, every sixty seconds an animal is abused. Abuse can be in the form of beating, neglecting, or shearing for fur. Animal abuse is a crime that happens far too often in this country. Many cases of animal abuse go undocumented because dogs, cats, horses, birds, sheep, rabbits, etc. do not have a voice. Animal rights organizations try giving these animals a voice to stop horrible abuse. The Humane Society, ASPCA, and Peta display various images, choose specific diction, and express tone to motivate their audience to contribute to their campaign. These campaigns inform people through their advertisements about the issues occurring by using similar and different methods.

This act ensured the safety of animals by enforcing all companies to have licenses for their "practices". The animal that was put on that list are dogs, cats, hamsters, monkeys,
The Humane society of Canada mission is to protect companion animals, animals in agriculture, animals in entertainment, and animals in science. It also aim to protect environment. This organization claims to do hands on programs to help animals and nature such as rescue operations, undercover investigations, and advocate for better animal welfare laws. It also lends it support other small shelters. Awareness via public education is also part of their agenda. However it doesn’t provide any specific examples of their work, all the information is provided in very vague sense. It can perceived as an animal rights lobby group. It has an adopt-a-pet page on its website, where people can post craigslist style advertisement if they are looking for
Imagine that you are walking from class and someone hands you an innocent looking brochure. You open it and see tortured and abused animals. Well I could have gone without seeing that. Helen Eptein in AIDS, Inc. saw some of the benefits and costs of the direct and indirect approach. The Humane Society uses both direct and indirect methods to get their point across. Both methods are useful, but if they are used in the wrong way, it could cause problems for the receivers of that information and the organization. The Humane Society promotes a “lifestyle brand” and creates social media campaigns, but also has a very direct way of supporting their cause against animal cruelty by showing very graphic pictures and videos.
For many years now the world has seen controversy over the rights of animals and if they think and feel like humans do. Many people see animals as mindless creatures or as food, while others think they have emotions and can feel pain. In other countries animal protection laws are in place that are strictly enforced and seem to work well with the system. In the United States however; some of the animal rights laws are considered to be useless and under-enforced (Animal Legal & Historical Center). More people today are beginning to see that animals should have rights and should be protected by laws and regulations (Animal Legal & Historical Center). Sadly there are many people residing in the United States who don’t take animal rights or protection laws seriously. These people abuse animals in many ways, including food industries that disobey the regulations set in place for the slaughter of animals used for consumption. Luckily for the animals there are people who fight for their rights and the enforcement of laws called animal rights activists.
