Dev and Simran” is about a modern couple, Dev and Simran living in the suburbs of Mumbai dealing with the problems of married life and death of their infant daughter. Dev dies and then Simran is left alone to pick up the bits and pieces of life with the help of their group of close-knit friends, who in different ways personally mourn for Dev and try their best to support and help Simran pass through this phase. She is left alone scuffling between the loss of her husband who succumbed to blood cancer too soon after the death of her one month old baby daughter Sara."Sara’s death made me feel punch–drunk, both eyes bleeding.”(E.D. 100). She regrets the moments she has missed upon; she is annoyed by the fact that she did not let herself totally open in front of her husband and not talking to him about a whole lot of things. She has now become conscious of the fact that her marriage wasn’t a perfect one. After such a great loss, she is now capable of handling tasks all by herself; she has grown into a new matured Simran. Being aware about the transformation she had undergone, she mentions in the letter addressed to Dev that, “I am not a wax dummy anymore am almost human.
