Argument Essay Conquering adversity in high school is vital for our future socially. We grow and learn in high school mentally and socially. Learning how to do so early on will shape young people into responsible and well-rounded adults. This point was brought up by 2014 Michigan Teacher of the Year Nominee Chase Mielke, who says “It is your resilience in conquering the main event- adversity- that truly prepares you for life after school”. As a high school student myself, I have overcome many challenges that gave me a new perspective in life, and I would like to express how important that is. To overcome an obstacle at any age shapes your mind for the better, but to do so at a young age will allow you to make strong decisions in the future.
“You are not good enough.” Those are five words; no child or adult ever wants to hear or tell themselves. On the other hand, life will always be filled with occasions like these where we believe life plainly just sucks; where people, including ourselves, will believe we are so worthless, insignificant, and dim-witted that we are incapable of achieving something grand. In fact, no matter how much we deny it, these are the experiences that will always stick with us and affect us in one way, big or small. Yet, the thing many of us fail to discover is that the best opportunities come from these moments where proving we are capable of something is most vital. Thus, I have gone through many obstacles in elementary school that I am proud of because it has carved the successful and fortunate person I am today in school and life.
Throughout high school, numerous students have obstacles that they go through that end up affecting their educational journey. For myself, my hurdle was learning to cope with having a job, playing sports and being a part of school clubs all while sustaining worthy grades.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” Joshua 1:9. Adversity is what comes to mind when reading this verse. The Book of Joshua teaches us to accept the good things God provides for us; things like adversity, suffering, and perseverance. I chose this verse because God chose for me to go through something so horrifying at the age of seventeen. It is natural to ask God “why me” in a time of hardship that never think about the purpose he has for us. How can adversity and suffering be a good thing? Because learning to overcome something is what builds your character. It turns you into the person God created you to be; and you find ways
Throughout my high school career I have had many ups and many downs. High School by far has been the biggest challenge I’ve ever had to overcome. Freshman year and sophomore year were my easiest years academic wise but my junior and senior years have been very challenging. But while facing these challenges I have learned many things that may be helpful for those future seniors who are trying to get through high school.
“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time,” Malcolm X, and activist overcame adversity by learning from his defeat. Adversity affects our world today too. With our harsh rules and drive to be better, one must strive to succeed and overcome the hardships. While there are many qualities needed to overcome adversity, having faith, keeping composure, and receiving support are vital in order to overcome adversity.
in high school some challenges did approach me, I did not let myself down and I was determined
“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful” -Joshua J. Marine. If you face a trouble/hardship in life and you find a way to overcome them, life will teach you a valuable lesson. Ponyboy faces many deaths/troubles in his life; when he figured out how to get over them, he benefits tremendously. S.E. Hinton focuses on the topic of: everyone goes through hardships, it’s how you deal with them that teach you a greater lesson in life.
There are many things that can hold people back from goals that they are determined to accomplish. Despite these hardships and dilemmas that we face, if we have fight in us and the correct work ethic we are bound to succeed. I personally have faced my share of obstacles in my life and have been through plenty of hardships. However, I always overcome them in one way or another. For example, when I first walked the halls of Harlingen High School I entered as a shy but ambitions freshman with a lot of friends and unfortunately a lot of enemies. I was always put down due to play playing ability in band. I constantly tried to get better and better and that’s when freshman region auditions came along. I was excited to be able to actually compete
Argument Essay Every year, consistently, teenagers attending a new school face genuine difficulties. They usually face personal issues, social issues, and judicial issues. For instance, they may experience difficulty understanding who they are and their potential purpose in society, making and maintaining relationships, and staying out of trouble. These sorts of issues don't go away, and require teenagers to fail or “learn the hard way”, before they can identify the issues themselves.
Once you’ve been in school for nearly 12 years of your life you think you know all of the tricks to conquering the school year. When a problem arises you think you know the easy way out of it or the perfect way to avoid it. Some kids probably believe that as you continue on through your education these problems will just simply decrease. As a junior in high school, I’ve come to find that that assumption couldn’t be more false. High school came as a scare to me and I felt that I was the only one going through those typical teenage problems; however, after reading How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character, by Paul Tough, I began to gain some of my confidence back.
My parents came to the United States 19 years ago with two young kids in their arms. While neither possessed a high school diploma and both spoke non-fluent English, they had the determination to work more than 50 hours a week to make ends meet. In a way, I believe that I have inherited their determination in order to achieve my goals in the face of adversity. While I was growing up as an Asian-American student some of the struggles I faced were a language barrier and sometimes even discrimination. Later, in my academic career as a first-generation college student, I had fears of the unknown and the unfamiliar.
I didn’t know my dad and mom. When I was three years old, I moved to Vietnam where my first memories weren’t of my parents, but instead, my aunt and uncle. As my parents were across the world in Vancouver, I lived in Vietnam, unaware of their existence. I didn’t know I was born in Canada or that my auntie and uncle were not my parents during the time. Growing up, I faced obstacles of identity, creating connections and being a part of a community. The support I have received growing up has brought me invaluable opportunities and experiences. Despite my adversity, the challenges I encountered have taught me important skills that have made into the person I am today.
Automotive industry pioneer Henry Ford once said,“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal”. Each and every day I live by this quote when thinking about my future and the obstacles that lay ahead. One hurdle that I can think to be the toughest is the transition from Elementary to Middle School. This was very terrifying for me as 11 year old juvenile. So what did I do? I made friends, did my best on my work, and looked toward the future. I wanted and still want my future to be finishing high school with honors, and working for United Airlines as a Captain. As a Sophomore in Park View High School, I have very much so passed the transition from Elementary to Middle, and feel good about how I overcame
My thesis is that overcoming adversity begins with early development and enables people to cope with everyday stresses. Whether there is something such as stressing for a midterm or the aftermath of a traumatic experience, it is important to remain calm, stay strong, keep a positive mindset, and get help from people whom you have developed a strong relationship with. People often find comfort in other people and by developing those compassionate connections from a young age, it will help an individual stay strong and allows them to overcome adversity. When it comes to life in general, there will be stress and there will be obstacles, but that allows that individual to grow and learn from their past which will make them stronger.
Everyone experiences adversity. Challenges that everyday people experience can potentially shape, improve, or destroy one's sense of self and personality. Through all these hardships and seemingly impenetrable obstacles, the most pertinent component of one's ability to overcome can only be shown in actions taken despite the odds. People have one of two options; to let those obstacles overwhelm them and keep them from pursuing all that they were destined to accomplish, or to march forward, fight harder and push past the seemingly impossible circumstances to become greater than they ever expected to be, but until they take the step that enables them to be successful -- they are stranded. All of our actions, mistakes, successes, and behaviors shape our person and what we can or cannot become, but what will always matter is our individual decisions and actions not those of the people around us because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have to deal with ourselves.
