For many years several medical associations (including that of Canada) have proposed a ban of boxing claiming that ?boxing is the only sport where hurting the other athlete is the goal? others saying that it is an ?obscenity? and that it should not be practiced in any civilized society. Ban supporters say that it is not so much the fatalities the problem but the chronic brain damage that leads to fatalities. An example of this is Muhammad Ali, who, after retiring from professional boxing, figured out that he had Parkinson's disease which affects the muscles, motor skills, and causes slower speech. But, I bet you if I asked him if he had any regrets about boxing because of what it did to his brain I?m sure he would say that he had none. Why? Because being a boxer means something. It means that you have worked to the best of your ability to become something that so few have accomplished. In my opinion I believe that before a boxer steps into the ring, 99 percent of them know the risk involved but do it anyway, they do it for the love of the sport.
For many kids living in poor societies, boxing imitates the journey of life, they have had to fight to survive on a day to day basis and use their wits to get ahead. For these people boxing can be a way to get a better life. Success in the sport of boxing mirrors success in life. By working to become an elite athlete these people
The ultimate goal of a boxing match is a knock out. The knockout punch brings satisfaction to the winner of the boxing math and the crowd. This one punch can make a fight exciting. However, if there is not a knockout punch, the fight is often times dull. After a knockout punch, one man loses consciousness while the other man dances around the ring raising his hands in victory and is swarmed by his coaches and the press. Oates continues to argue that boxing is the cruelest sport by comparing a boxing match to a tragedy. If a fight has no knock out by the end, it seems like the fight is missing something. The knockout punch is a cruel but key aspect to boxing which makes people love
Boxing had always been around in which its origin started back in Ancient Greece where Greeks found the sport of violence very entertaining (Hirsley par. 17). Despite its huge popularity at that time, it soon died off with the rest of Greece to where it would not be revived until the 1600’s. Medieval Europe played around with the idea of boxing, but it would later perish due to the rise of the Salem Witch Trials (Hirsley par. 18). Boxing would then come back around once more, but only this time being the most effective. The 1920’s eventually came around, and with the rise of entertainment, boxing was born again. It was previously
Boxers sometimes face the challenge of defeating their opponent for many reasons. Those reasons could be to prove they can win, to earn money and to not disappoint or lead down fans and beaters. Many boxers choose boxing because they are good at it and it’s a way of earning money, just like Benny Paret. Boxing is a dangerous sport since every boxer become badly hurt and ill at the end of every match. Most boxers suffer from brain damages as a result of many hits in the head. Cousins explains that Benny Paret was killed because of a massive hemorrhage in the brain, caused by an impact directed against the head (par. 7) Cousins also wrote “Not every blow to the head will kill a man but there is always the risk of concussion and damage to the brain” (par. 7). Fighters that survive repeated concussions still go and fight, but the problem here is that the damage in the brain may be permanent. Sometimes boxers should consider their health problems before fighting again.
Since I was a kid I have always wanted to box and when I got older my parents finally let me box. They thought that I was going to be irresponsible and cause problems but then the summer going into ninth grade my father let me start boxing. I started off learning the basics simple combinations and how to move my feet the right way. I loved boxing at first then I grew to hate it as it got more difficult for me. My father wanted me to stay in boxing so I could learn to defend myself, but I didn’t care. At the end of my freshman year of high school, I was at the civic center with my boxing coach. It was a warm night in May and I was getting ready to practice. The gym was filled with a lot of kids who were playing basketball. The gym was

Learn about boxing styles. Each boxer has their own arsenal of moves, most of which fit under a specific style of boxing. Sometimes boxers are evenly matched in this arena, and sometimes they aren’t. The same can also be said of height, weight, and reach (how far they can extend their punches from their body). These can all play critical roles in determining a fight, so do your homework before you bet.
Boxing, an official sanctioned sport in the early 20th century, is a sport that is known as one of the most violent and physically demanding sports on the earth. Professional boxers that get paid to fight must be in top shape in order to preform at the highest level. Being a professional boxer is a tough life. Boxers train hard for many months leading up to one fight and either win, lose, knock out the opponent or even get knocked out. The sport has been around for centuries, but has most recently taken off over the last 100 years. It is a multibillion dollar industry with fighters taking home hundreds of thousands of dollars if not even millions of dollars for big matches. In Papa Jack, Roberts displays life of a professional boxer through firsthand accounts with events that happened during Johnson’s life and shows how boxing not only influenced his life but also how he influenced the African American community.
Boxing - a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one’s career, or even one’s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage.

Boxing in the 1960’s was one of the biggest sources of entertainment to most American’s. Back in the 60’s one could compare a heavyweight championship fight to our modern day super bowl. If American’s didn’t have a television, they would be standing by their radios listening. Unfortunately during the same time period race relations were at an all-time low. Boxing was integrated, although black boxers were still under pressure to conform to white America’s social limitations. One man stayed true to himself, so that others would find courage to do the same.
