The first example of courage is when Melinda is told that she needs to read her suffragette report in front of the class. The easy option would've been to just read her paper in front of the class but instead she took a different approach, an approach she considered the right option. Instead of reading her report she writes on the board, "The suffragettes fought for the right to speak. They were attacked, arrested, and thrown in jail for daring to do what they
Courage is important because if you’re not courageous you will not explore new things, get new experiences. An example of courage happens in the first couple of pages when Jasper and Charlie go out to explore late at night into the forest. If they haven’t gone out there they would’ve never found the body
Would you be willing to get in trouble for your sibling even though you know you’re gonna get hurt? Cassie Logan was brave. So brave that she wasn’t afraid to step out of line for what she believes is right. She knew she would get in trouble and get hurt, but she did it anyway. Courage is defined as "the quality of mind or spirit enabling one to meet danger or opposition with fearlessness." According to Atticus Finch, one of the main characters in To Kill a Mockingbird, "Courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what." (pg.121). Harper Lee clearly portrays the theme of courage in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. One likes to think of a hero, as strong, brave, and meeting all challenges head on. All the characters in this book have a different view as to what courage
How can courage defined? By power? By strength? No, my definition of courage is when you know the task that is presented before you will risk your safety and/or well being, but you do it anyway so that you can help to achieve a greater cause. "You know, courage seemed to skip a generation. Thank you for bringing it back to our family”. Obviously this quote is more of a metaphor rather than a literal statement but it has an important meaning, which in my opinion it means that a large majority of us become comfortable with our current lives and that we don’t really want or think that we need change. I think that this can only change when a few people show great courage like Aibileen and Minnie showed in the book by sharing their story.
Many people have different opinions on the meaning of courage. To Kill a Mockingbird has many characters that fit the definition well, such as Scout, Atticus, and even Calpurnia. Each character shows honesty, braveness, and standing up for what they believe in throughout different chapters. Courage is something everyone has but may not show it, Scout for instance, is just being herself, but she is courageous.
The word “courage” has many definitions. Some people say that courage is being able to face one's own fears, while others say that courage is a person with a strong heart. Harper Lee exhibits true courage as standing up for what one believes in even when it signifies imperilling something precious.
What is courage? I define courage by being tough in a tough situation. Mississippi Trial a book where an African-American boy is murdered because of his race. In this book, there are many people who I think have courage, but no more than Naomi Rydell. Naomi is a beautiful young woman who lives a horrible life from being abused by her father, she acts as two people, and even though it all she stays truthful to her father.
Courage is the commitment to begin without any guarantee of success. One will dare to take risks, have the strength to be compassionate, and the wisdom to be humble; courage is simply the foundation of integrity. What someone does in these moments of being very brave will reveal how strong someone really is, regardless of how much weight someone can deadlift. The courage of each character in "To Kill A Mockingbird" manifests itself in their battles against the corrupt forces of their world.
Courage is shown when a character stands up for what they think and express. In roll of thunder hear my cry, Stacey shows the most courage by going to help T.J, digging the trench, and staying with T.J when he was wanted.
Cassie Logan showed bravery by standing up for her brother, Little man in the classroom. Cassie has so much courage that she stands up for little man to her teacher. On page 26 Cassie states “See, Miz Crocker, see what it says. They give us these ole books when they don’t want ‘em no more.” This quote shows Cassie standing up for little man by showing her what little man was talking about. I like how in the book she stands up for her brother even though she gets in trouble.
Courage is the ability for standing up for someone with strength and helping people when no one will. Mildred D.
