Lying is sometimes ok when you are protecting someone, it can be your mom your friend or just someone you barely know. But the point is you sometimes have to be a little sly with the truth. My reason to lying is to protect people's feelings and well being. For example when your friend ask if they look dumb in some type of clothing and say no but think it's terrible. Or when you say your babysitter has curfew, like when you're at a dinner party. My source was lies, lies, lies. Also my example is anne frank she was in hiding and the people harboring her when she was in the attic. Anne frank survived as long as she did because they lied to the nazis. My other reason is to shelter people and their feelings. So when your friends say if they are cool and say yes but they lame. …show more content…
My other reason is lying is a part of life you have to lie to survive or to make your story telling. Lying builds your story telling like when you were a kid and said that u didnt eat the cookies but you did. Lying can also keep you from trouble like when your teacher says if you threw that paper airplane and said no. that saves you from detention or worse you can be suspended or a referral. So lying has gotten me out of a lot of situations. For example when i was supposed to clean my room i said i did she went in and i just threw everything under the bed and she had no clue. Also you have to lie in situations for life and
One of the ways in which one can justify lying is when one is lying to protect others’ feelings. For example an article from NBC News supports this by stating, “Your fictional spouse, about to accept a Nobel prize, asks if they look fat. ‘If You’re on the way to the award ceremony, you say, ‘You look fabulous,’ Cohen instructs”. This demonstrates that lying is justified to protect others’ feelings, because if one were to say anything else that would be quite rude and make the person feel bad about it. Although, the other person may want to know the truth and if they are not already on the way to the ceremony, then it would be a
Did you know everyone has lied once in their life many people feel lying is a a bad thing to do. Lying is okay sometimes like lies to protect others, lies to get out of a situations, and lies to protect yourself.
I agree with the fact that lying is NOT okay. BUT, its also okay in certain situations. Most adults lie to their children about multiple things such as: believing there is a Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, etc. Some adults Some children think what they are being told is true
Once people know that a person habitually lies, they do not take that person as seriously. Being honest demonstrates self-respect and respect for others. Honesty is appealing and engaging to others. Honesty also sets a good example for people who look up to that person. People will become closer and have faith in an authentic person. An honest person invites authentic and real friendships. Imagine if a friend overhears a lie told by another peer, it is possible that it could damage the relationship. It can be difficult to regain their trust once they are aware of the regular lying. People frequently tell lies to bypass sharing truths that feel uncomfortable or awkward. Lying should be avoided because it is important to share true judgment and care for others. Lying typically ruins relationships whether they are personal or work-related. It is clear that lying creates skepticism and disbelief. Most people will stop asking liars for advice on personal issues because they know they will not get truthful information. Friendships are often broken because of lies that get too big to keep lying about. Lying hides who people really are. People should try to keep a clean slate by staying honest, especially when there are consequences. Lying gets rid of credibility, yet people seem to lie more
Lying can save you in severe situations such as life or death. Elie lied about his age and said he was eighteen instead of fifteen. “‘Your age?’ he asked, perhaps trying to sound paternal. ‘I'm eighteen.’ My voice was trembling.” (Wiesel 31). Not telling exact information to strangers about yourself can prevent bad things from happening. He told the doctor he was sick so he didn’t have to get his crown taken. His crown could buy him an extra ration of bread and soup, so he decided it’d be smart to keep it. He said he was a farmer because it could save him from being killed immediately. Lying is one of many ways that can help people survive in certain situations.
“Because it keeps you locked in the jail of your own mind,” said Brad Blanton in Barbara Ballinger’s article, “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth,” (p.7). In the situation of a lie being told, the truth can come out two different ways. The truth could be revealed after the guilt builds up or the person in the situation comes clean and doesn't lie in the first place. In the end, telling the truth frees one’s mental state. Although, some people may argue that it’s okay to lie if it means sparing a friend’s feelings. In reality, it’s never acceptable to lie even when protecting someone’s feelings because when this person finds out the truth, she/he might not be able to forgive the liar of their lack of
Lying requires a lot more brain power and demands a flawless plan to go about telling it. Keeping the story constant is undoubtedly necessary to keep the lie undetected. Telling a faulty lie for your own sake may change the way others view you, and telling a flawed lie for the sake of a loved one may very well change the way people see them. In a study conducted by Michael Lewis in Is Your Child Lying To You? That's Good" by Alex Stone, 2-4-year-old children were asked to keep their eyes closed while an adult left them in the room with a toy. The vast majority of the young children told a lie to the adult with their parents watching. The fabricated statement is a significant risk
Lying is justified when it can be used to protect and care for others . For example , paul gray says “ on rare occasions, lying to protect others can literally be a matter of life or death (2). Lying is also okay to tell because if someone tries to do something you would tell them lies so that way they stop . In addition , an example if someone was trying to kill you and others lied you
One reason why lying is mostly unjustified is because it’s even more stressful than telling the truth. In the article “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth” by Barbara Ballinger she focuses on Brad Blanton, a psychotherapist that states “...it keeps you locked in the jail of your own mind… truth is easier, takes less time… less stressful.” This shows that lying is mostly unjustified because although many people think lying is easier, it just makes it harder on yourself. It creates stress and fills your mind with guilt. In reality, it’s easier to deliver the truth to the person you lied to. In spite of this, many people still disagree with this argument. For example, in the article ”It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying” by NBCNews they quote Bella DePaulo who studied about the phenomenon about lying and states ””People who say lying is wrong are often thinking in the abstract… we can’t always pick honesty without compromising some other value that might be as important”-like maintaining a happy relationship… partner is saying something you
Lying has always been something that goes against my moral code. While it’s not necessarily the utmost condemnable thing a person can do, it is a more accessible evil. Most people I know don’t commit murder or other grand crimes, but I’d venture to say most people I know lie. Ever since I was young, I always felt that lying was so deeply wrong, purposefully deceiving the people around you. As long as I remember, I would feel so ashamed whenever I lied, but on the
I do not condone lying in certain aspects because it is always going to backfire on you. but in some arguable circumstances you have to because you do not want to hurt the person that's why you have to lie to them. then it creates a bigger more deep lie that you have to cover up by other lies. Lying is a part of our daily lives we witness it we hear it and we discuss with each other of why do we lie? well we lie because it's the easiest thing to do we can not grip the truth and the reality of ourselves. If you're going to lie it needs to be a legitimate reason of why you're doing it because a lie can be a serious ordeal to that person. For instance i could lie to my mom (never say i would) about being somewhere that i really shouldn't be
Lying is a bad thing, and everyone should be aware of that. Humans lie that’s just the truth. Although, we lie there are some lies that are acceptable.
Why do people lie? It’s hard to understand the psychology behind lying. When looking underneath the surface and delving deeper, there are many reasons someone might feel a need to lie. Some people lie out of fear while others who lie are doing it to protect their pride. The most harmful lie is one used to manipulate.
mother was brutally murdered and tortured.I would just tell the kid that his mother got
I also agree that we should think before we act. First, we tell lies to avoid hurting the feelings of someone. Words are very powerful so when we are friends with someone and we know that they are hurting we usually tell white lies to make them feel better. In addition, we tell lies to protect their own feelings. If we know that a lie can make a person happy then go for it even though it is bad because we love them and we will do everything for them. Second, we tell lies to avoid getting into trouble. An example is we prevent physical and mental harm. A situation that is proper to this is when we are in danger; obviously we need to tell numerous lies to protect ourselves from getting hurt. Third, we tell lies to avoid losing someone. We tend to lie because the truth might ruin our relationship with the person even though we know that when we lie to someone, we already ruin the relationship we have with them. Moreover, gaining the trust of a person is very hard; we tend to push them away because some of us have trust issues, so when we finally gained that trust we are afraid to
