The age of the earth has been debated for centuries. Many people believe in evolution that it took billions of years for everything and everyone to form. Others believe that God created the earth in seven days and that the earth is young. Secular scientist and Christian scientist both use different methods for determining how old the earth is. For example, Secular scientist look and use the layers of rocks to help them, while Christian scientist uses the Bible and look at historical data from other cultures to help them. Doesn't looking at archeological data seem more accurate than looking at rocks? If the earth is truly billions of years old, then why is there little sediment on the sea floor? Or how can secular scientist explain finding soft tissue in a fossil if the earth is old? The most logical explanation is that the earth is young. Many people believe something just because people say that it is true, sometimes it is good to investigate for yourself and see if it is good for you.

Where do we come from? The creation of the world has been told through many different stories, and from a variety of religions across the world. The argument between evolution and creation has been debated back and forth for years. So how do we know which claim is correct? Has all life evolved from simple bacteria to all the species that appear today, or did life on earth begin with God's creation of Adam from dust and his partner Eve from adam’s rib bone. As a child I grew up attending church every Sunday with my grandparents, attending bible school, and taught the ways of the Lord. The debate over Evolutionary theories and Creationism beliefs has been a major debate throughout our churches, education system, and even our homes. There have been countless scientists, theologians, journalists and Christians that have studied both sides of the spectrum, that argue how the world we live in was created. Many empty statements, with little to no facts, just assertions about this particular question have been stated in many debates all over the world. So on one side we have Creationism belief that essentially argues that God is the “intelligent designer” and on the other side Evolutionary theories that state the world has evolved over the centuries. In the Merriam- Webster dictionary, Creationism is defined as, “a doctrine or theory holding that matter, the various forms of life, and the world were created by God out of nothing and usually in the way described in Genesis “. Merriam- Webster dictionary also defines Evolution as, “a theory that the differences between modern plants and animals are because of changes that happened by a natural process over a very long time; the process by which changes in plants and animals happen over time; a process of slow change and development”. So is it possible to believe both of those definitions?

As we have learned in class and as we still see now in the modern world, the topic of evolution vs creationism has been one of much dispute. To many, there is only one side; you either believe in God or in Science, you either believe that Adam and Eve are our ancestors or you believe that through the years and the changes in the world we have evolved from apes. Whichever side you find yourself on there will always be someone that disagrees with you and is willing to tell you why you are wrong.

Between the Billion and Thousand years theory, both have a great point of views. They both have scientific beliefs and biblical believes. One thing between both is that we have documented or spiritual writings on which one is true. The Geologic scale provide dates and good scientific measurement. There is scientific research that dinosaurs have been extinct for 65 millions years. If we go by the bible it states that its less then that. To understand the why the billion years can be far fetch to believe one would have to understand the Bible and choose to read and listen to the word of God vice the word of man.

As early as 1600AD scholars and scientists such as Isaac Newton believed that the words written in the Book of Genesis describing the creation of the Earth and mankind were in fact true. According to most biblical timelines the Earth and mankind were created around 6,000 years ago and it has only been within the past 300 years that scientists studying geological along with archaeological evidence that we now know how the Earth was created along with the evolution of humans. Today, a combination of several types of sciences tell us that over 4,000,000,000 years ago the Earth began to form and that the modern human didn't evolve until between 400,000 to 200,000 years ago.

One of the most controversial topics in the world today is on the creation of earth. In one sense students are taught in school that the earth and man was created through evolution. While, on the other hand people that attend church are taught that God created the earth and all of the inhabitants that live on it. For centuries, scientists have sought scientific evidence that proves either the creationist or evolutionist approach to the creation of earth. Many believe that scientific information proves that the earth is billions of years old, and that the days in Genesis should not be interpreted as literal twenty-four hour days. Scientific evidence of fossils and evolution are merely humanistic estimations of time. Evolutionists and old-earth creationism seek to justify the days of creation in Genesis through 2 Peter 3:8; “…with the Lord one day is like a thousand years . . ..” (NASB). For decades the age of the Earth has been a major conflict between science and religion, but why is it such a big conflict? If, in the year AD 1600, an individual had asked an educated European how old the planet Earth was and to recount its history, the response would have been that it was about 6000 years old and that its ancient history was given by the biblical account in Genesis (Changing Views of the History of the Earth). If one asked the same question of an educated European in AD 1900, one would have received a totally different answer (Changing Views of the History of the Earth). The answer would have been the Earth was ancient, there had not been a Noachian flood, and that the species of life had not been fixed over the history of Earth (Changing Views of the History of the Earth).
