Many Mexicans including my parents both think that the government and even Enrique is corrupt. Not to long ago the president was in a scandal of his own. This scandal is called the “ White House Scandal.” (BBCNEWS) In which the president was questioned about how he could afford such an expensive home. The house in which he and his wife acquired is worth 7 million dollars! I am pretty sure a president doesn’t make that much especially in Mexico. It is no wonder the people questioned and thought he was corrupt. “The scandal traces back to an investigation published in 2014 that revealed that Peña Nieto and his family owned a $7 million home built by a subsidiary of Grupo Higa.” ( Andrew V. Pestano)” After fully investigating the situation, it was concluded that the president did not have anything to do with this. On the contrary it wasn’t even him who bought the house. “Peña Nieto and his government associates denied any wrongdoing, and Rivera, a famous telenovela star, consistently asserted that her career in entertainment allowed her family to buy the …show more content…
With powerful and rich people controlling the government it is safe to say money is the true sign of power. Sadly that corruption causes fatalities and loss of jobs. No one wants to live in a country in which people with guns control the area and people who want peace have to live in fear. Would you want your daughter to be targeted by Mexican drug lords because they thought she was attractive? No! That is why the people want the government to step up. To no longer live in fear and finally be happy. There can never be peace if there is no law and with corruption in the police force evil will take over. “The objective of the National Anti-Corruption System is to coordinate the efforts of all Mexican governmental bodies―at the federal, state, and municipal levels―that are involved in anti corruption enforcement. These laws apply to both public officials and private parties, including companies and their directors, officers, and employees.” Hopefully the government stays true with its words and Mexico can finally become that safe and beautiful country it used to
The corruption in the government, one of the main problems in the majority of countries in the world, causing death, poverty and impunity in the life of the persons. People think that government corruption is just buying votes to win the elections, but this is just a little part of the corruption. The corruption of the government has been present for a long time ago, covering a great variety of problems in the society, like the stealing the money from the people, alliances with the narco, using the power just a favor of the politicians, increasing the prices of food, fuel and public services just to make more money. The people do not have the necessary services to survive and if the services are available they are expensive. In some parts of the world the government is colluding with the delinquency, in the case of Mexico, the government is colluded with the narco. The corruption in Mexico has permeated several segments of society like political, economic, and social. Also it has greatly affected the country’s legitimacy, transparency, accountability, and effectiveness; knowing the majority of the people of
As once put by Mexican Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, Mexico is a land of “super-imposed pasts” (McCormick, p.326). It continues to be and is seen as a melding pot of its European and Native American ideas about society, law and government. Its history has had a major influence on the political culture of Mexico, seen through years of revolution, violence and corruption. Mexico is a considered a new democracy, but there is a tension still seen between democracy and authoritarianism. The country we see today has impressive growth yet is still enduring poverty. It’s a geographically diverse country, with a population of approximately 106million people. Latin American political culture is seen as “elitist,
Children are taught at a young age learning the three branches of the United States and how well they work however Mexico’s government is very similar to the US. Mexico’s government is a lot more developed than you might think; it has a good structure with three branches also called Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches.
The 100th year anniversary of The Declaration of Independence is here and the Nation is as united as it is equal. None. Although football games continue like Princeton vs. Rutgers the United states is in shambles. Following the war between the states a plan to reconstruct was put into place. It was proficient, effective, and controversial for many years. However, after the long Civil War and years spent to rebuild the Nation, the North Ultimately killed reconstruction because of government corruption, the focus change in North, and widespread racism throughout the nation.
In the Shadow of the Mexican Revolution by Hector Aquilar Camin and Lorenzo Meyer tells a chronological story of contemporary Mexico from the fall of Porfirio Diaz in 1910 to the July elections in 1989. The time period that Camin and Meyer portray in Mexico is one of corruption, civil war, and failure. While Mexico would undergo an era described as the “Mexican Miracle” where the Mexican country would begin to see a positive output in the country, it would be short-lived and Mexico would continue to fall behind as other countries progressed. While In the Shadow of the Mexican Revolution is comprised of facts throughout history, one cannot help but feel a sense of sympathy for Mexico. While their corruption, political, and economical,
The following publication is rife with manipulation and corruption of Mexico 's highest regarded political positions and jurisdictions. Former Mexican President Miguel de la Madrid Hurtado officially declared drug trafficking a national security threat in early 1988. The United Nations estimate that 70% of the drugs flowing into the United States comes directly from Mexican drug trafficking cartels. Mexican cartels rely heavily on bribes and corruption as a means to infiltrate the Mexican political system. To the Mexican cartels, bribes and corruption is viewed as nothing more than, "the cost of doing business". A study by the National Autonomous University in Mexico City found that
Mexican Drug Cartels have been a problem for many years. The cartels are an organized crime organization and they don’t just deal drugs; they commit murders too. The Cartels origins are traced back to the Columbian Cali and Medellin mega-cartels who were responsible for the majority of drug trafficking into the United States. Crime has existed for many years but it surfaced more when Pablo Escobar was popular. Pablo Escobar was one the main transporters for cocaine throughout Mexico and the United States coming straight out of Columbia. Law enforcement tried to stop the drug trade but Escobar formed a relationship with Mexico-based traffickers who smuggled drugs into the United States. Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo also known as “The Godfather” of the cartels. Seeing how he established the Guadalajara Cartel, which is recognized as the first Mexican Cartel, and were the first to link up with Escobar and started the transportation of cocaine
Professor Trejo argues that there was criminal protection under the PRI. The party alternation in the states led to the break down of informal networks of protections for the drug cartels. As a result the cartels created private armies to cope with the government threats and to attack and rival against the government. The Mexican government
Mexico is the eleventh most populated country in the world with a $2.2 trillion economy (CIA, 2017). It is also an extremely popular tourist destination for Americans and Europeans alike. Moreover, its people have had the highest average annual hours worked in the world every year for the last three years (OECD, 2017). Despite this, their unemployment rate is estimated to be 3.6% and their underemployment at 25% (CIA, 2017). I am going to expand on this country’s issues with corruption, organized crime, violence, the economy, and how I assess their future will affects us here in the United States.
In 1972, the biggest scandal in American politics occurred at the Watergate complex. For years, the struggle to reveal secret of who masterminded this operation occupied the courts in Washington D.C. The Committee for the Re-election of the President (CRP) fought to keep President Richard Nixon 's name clear throughout the confessions of the Watergate burglars and of men inside the White House. From 1972 until 2017, many other national scandals have been publicized to the nation, but current political controversies such as President Trump 's Russia scandal and Hillary Clinton 's email mishap rival Watergate. The Watergate Scandal changed the security measures taken during presidential campaigns and began an era of political scandals.
The Obama administration on Thursday revealed that 21.5 million people were swept up in a colossal breach of government computer systems that was far more damaging than initially thought, resulting in the theft of a vast trove of personal information, including Social Security numbers and some
From what I could tell this book teaches about many things about Mexico such as corruption in the church, abuse of power of the wealthy, and how people view the afterlife. It also shows historical background in terms with the “Revolution” mentioned near the end of the book, and how power “elites” would handle these revolutionaries. One can see the corruption in the church when the Father continues to forgive the Paramo family even though they commit many evils deeds (such as rape, murder) because they offer money to him. His own niece was raped by Miguel Paramo, and when the Father mentioned him to her she told him “I know now that he must be in the deepest pit of hello”, however the father never told her that he pardoned Miguel (pg. 28).
What do you call a government run by the people? The answer is a democracy. An example of one is the United States since the people would vote for their president. Mexico is a democracy too, however, in 2014 and to this day, it is known as a corrupt country. For instance, the event of the 43 ‘missing’ students, it caused an outbreak in the media, institutions, and to the world. The journalists have reported that the government did not attack the students on their own ,but with the help of the Narco, a drug gang. The massacre of the 43 students was interceding equality of education had open a huge awareness since now the public sees how the Mexican government is representing their people. Protesting against the corrupt laws is time consuming and dangerous, but it is worth it because it can slowly improve the system. America should continue to protest against the state-sponsored violence because it spread the awareness, influences the government to be questioned, and the people can impeach their political leaders.
This has been a topic of discussion on the CB radio every since I can remember. The talk usually consists of the displeasure of the Mexican trucks, Canadian also, that cross our borders every day conducting commercial trade.
Imagine losing your child in an accident where the government was involved. How would you feel? On September 26, 2014 43 students went missing in a town called Iguala located in Guerrero, Mexico. ”The students were on several buses traveling when local police suddenly stopped them, a confrontation began between the police and students which left 6 people dead,The events that happened after police confrontation are still unknown”. The students haven't been seen or heard of since then. Many speculate that the government is involved in this scandal. The Mexican government is hiding something.
